Book The Planters

Download or read book The Planters written by J. Derald Morgan and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2016-07-19 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a genealogical history of the McKneely families of South Carolina, Georgia and Louisiana. There are two branches to this Scotch-Irish family with this unique spelling. One that migrated from South Carolina to Georgia and then on to Texas and other parts of the expanding United States of America. Then there is the branch that left South Carolina in the late 1700s and early 1800s with other families and settled in what at the time was West Florida. This area then was taken into the United States of America with the purchase of Florida from Spain and then became a part of Louisiana. The Louisiana branch resided in the Parishes called the Florida Parishes and stayed close to the area until after the First World War when the family began to migrate into other parts of the United States. You will find in this book two parts. One part covers the McKneely family that migrated to the Florida Parishes of Louisiana and the Second part that covers the McKneely family that first migrated to Georgia and then to Oklahoma and Texas. There is speculation but no proof that the two lines come from the common immigrant ancestor James McNealy with various spellings of McNealy. Look at the information and decide for yourself whether or not two lines could adopt a common spelling change, come from South Carolina and have common names and not be related to the common ancestor attached to the Louisiana McKneely clan. I have attempted to include as much detail as possible about each person. Personal stories are the spice of a genealogical work. I have included as many as possible and included them without edit. I am not a politically correct family historian. There may be some factually correct material that you may not like or that someone might tell you is not correct. Please read this account with the times and culture in mind as that is what makes the story a good one. Do not try to impress yourself on the story but put yourself into the times and places.

Book The McClung Genealogy

Download or read book The McClung Genealogy written by William McClung and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The McClung Genealogy: A Genealogical and Biographical Record of the McClung Family From the Time of Their Emigration to the Year 1904 Fifteen years ago I began to search for the descendants of my father's eldest uncle - James McClung. I searched eight years and a half before I succeeded in finding them. While searching for these, however, I discovered several hundred other McClungs, of whom I had never heard before. At first I had no thought of publishing the results of my research, but as time passed and the genealogical data began to accumulate, the necessity for preserving it in a more permanent form and giving it a wider circulation became apparent. The record will be found to lack uniformity, owing to the fact that my system of registration was not complete when the work began, but developed as the work proceeded. The record begins with the earliest known ancestor and traces the descendants of his eldest son down to date, then traces the descendants of the second son and then the third, and so on to the youngest. Two numbers, separated by a hyphen, precede each name. The first number represents the number of the child in the family. The second number represents the generation to which he belongs. The volume contains a record of nine generations, including the names of about 3,500 McClungs, exclusive of those who have acquired the name by marriage into the family. The length of the biographical sketches does not represent the relative merit of the individuals. Many who deserve extensive mention do not receive it because either they or their kindred have neglected my repeated requests for information concerning them. No attempt has been made either to flatter or to slander any one. The names of the various branches are chosen arbitrarily. They are neither inclusive nor exclusive. For example, the Pittsburgh branch does not include all the McClungs who live in Pittsburgh. On the other hand, some who belong to the Pittsburgh branch do not live in Pittsburgh or even in the State of Pennsylvania. Again, the Texas branch constitutes but a very small proportion of those bearing the name McClung who live in Texas. Book History of the McTeear Brown and Wylie Families Classic Reprint

Download or read book History of the McTeear Brown and Wylie Families Classic Reprint written by David V. Brown and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the McTeear, Brown and Wylie Families For quite a good many years I have thought that it would be a good thing for some one to write a short his tory of our family and particularly of our ancestors. 'as time goes by and the elder members of the family are called home, information of our forefathers becomes more difficult to obtain. I had hoped that an abler pen than mine would take up the task. After having spoken to some who are interested in preserving the annals of the family and having been by them urged to undertake it myself, I at last consented, and the following pages are the result of my labor. Hoping that my readers may receive some information as well as pleasure in perusing this little volume. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Stepfamilies in Europe 1400 1800

Download or read book Stepfamilies in Europe 1400 1800 written by Lyndan Warner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stepfamilies were as common in the European past as they are today. Stepfamilies in Europe, 1400–1800 is the first in-depth study to chart four centuries of continuity and change for these complex families created by the death of a parent and the remarriage of the survivor. With geographic coverage from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia and from the Atlantic coast to Central Europe, this collection of essays from leading scholars compares how religious affiliation, laws and cultural attitudes shaped stepfamily realities. Exploring stepfamilies across society from artisans to princely rulers, this book considers the impact of remarriage on the bonds between parents and their children, stepparents and stepchildren, while offering insights into the relationships between full siblings, half siblings and stepsiblings. The contributors investigate a variety of primary sources from songs to letters and memoirs, printed Protestant funeral works, Catholic dispensation requests, kinship puzzles, legitimation petitions, and documents drawn up by notaries, to understand the experiences and life cycle of a family and its members – whether growing up as a stepchild or forming a stepfamily through marital choice as an adult. Featuring an array of visual evidence, and drawing on topics such as widowhood, remarriage, and the guardianship of children, Stepfamilies in Europe will be essential reading for scholars and students of the history of the family.

Book A Cultural History of Shopping in the Age of Enlightenment

Download or read book A Cultural History of Shopping in the Age of Enlightenment written by Ilja Van Damme and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-06-02 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Cultural History of Shopping was a Library Journal Best in Reference selection for 2022. The 'consumer revolution' of the 18th century has been the subject of much debate among historians but it seems clear there was also a 'retail revolution': a period of unprecedented growth in material goods was accompanied by a proliferation of retail spaces and techniques which brought new fashions and imported commodities to the homes of consumers. Governments responded to a growing culture of polite and civilized behavior across society by stimulating urban renewal for leisure and shopping: new pavements, street lighting, green promenades, theatres, coffee houses, and adjacent shopping streets were laid-out everywhere in Europe. As the 18th century drew to its close, 'shopping' had become a publicly accepted and celebrated leisure pursuit, gaining its proper meaning in multiple languages. A Cultural History of Shopping in the Age of Enlightenment presents an overview of the period with themes addressing practices and processes; spaces and places; shoppers and identities; luxury and everyday; home and family; visual and literary representations; reputation, trust and credit; and governance, regulation and the state.
