Book Understanding Forgiveness

Download or read book Understanding Forgiveness written by Dr John S Weekes and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001-11-29 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forgiveness is a vital component in the lives of every individual living in an orderly and civilized community. For the Christian, it is as important as life itself, since our heavenly Father not only charges us to forgive, but makes it a condition of our own forgiveness. It is therefore, of vital importance that we all understand, what forgivenss is, how it works, and how it affects our relationships with one another and with the one we call our Father which art in heaven. In this little book, Dr. Weekes has compiled a useful and readable guide. The following pages are dedicated to all those who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist acts on September eleventh, in the year of our Lord, two thousand and one. The brave passengers and crew on those aircrafts, the occupants in the Pentagon and the Twin Towers; the fire fighters and all the rescuers who lost their lives. May God be merciful to them, and may their souls and the souls of all those who depart this life in the faith and fear of our Lord, by the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Book The Ethics of Forgiveness

Download or read book The Ethics of Forgiveness written by Christel Fricke and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are often pressed to forgive or in need of forgiveness: Wrongdoing is common. Even after a perpetrator has been taken to court and punished, forgiveness still has a role to play. How should a victim and a perpetrator relate to each other outside the courtroom, and how should others relate to them? Communicating about forgiveness is particularly urgent in cases of civil war and crimes against humanity inside a community where, if there were no forgiveness, the community would fall apart. Forgiveness is governed by social and, in particular, by moral norms. Do those who ask to be forgiven have to fulfil certain conditions for being granted forgiveness? And what does the granting of forgiveness consist in? We may feel like refusing to forgive those perpetrators who have committed the most horrendous crimes. But is such a refusal justified even if they repent their crimes? Could there be a duty for the victim to forgive? Can forgiveness be granted by a third party? Under which conditions may we forgive ourselves? The papers collected in the present volume address all these questions, exploring the practice of forgiveness and its normative constraints. Topics include the ancient Chinese and the Christian traditions of forgiveness, the impact of forgiveness on the moral dignity and self-respect of the victim, self-forgiveness, the narrative of forgiveness as well as the limits of forgiveness. Such limits may arise from the personal, historical, or political conditions of wrongdoing or from the emotional constraints of the victims.

Book Forgiving Judas

    Book Details:
  • Author : William Harmening
  • Publisher : iUniverse
  • Release : 2007-05
  • ISBN : 0595441629
  • Pages : 192 pages

Download or read book Forgiving Judas written by William Harmening and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-05 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this critical assessment of the modern day Church, William Harmening deconstructs many of its longest held beliefs and practices against the backdrop of our contemporary social milieu. He approaches the subject head-on, peeling away the layers of archaic dogma to rediscover the core teachings of Jesus that have been lost through the centuries in the fog of institutionalized religion and ceremonial worship. No area of the modern Church escapes his critique; the clergy, the Bible, the structure and practice of the Church, and even our popular conceptions of the Holy Trinity. He ends with a final chapter in which he offers a model for a new kind of Church; one that is socially relevant, passionately ecumenical, and empowered by the simple message of love and tolerance found in the story of the Cross. Not since the writings of the radical theologians who came to the forefront during the 1960s has such an honest and thought-provoking critique of the contemporary Church been offered.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever, and Lord I shall fear no evil because I know thou art with me, even in the valley of the shadow of death. Father I will claim your promise to me that in 2 Timothy 1;7, You Father, gave me not a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind and I thank and praise You for this. I ask Your continued blessing on our country and pray You would lead and guide our leaders to make decisions that would be in Your will and not their own.
