Book Recent Developments in Cavitation Mechanisms

Download or read book Recent Developments in Cavitation Mechanisms written by Seiichi Washio and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-28 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does cavitation start? Presently, the nucleus theory provides the answer to this fundamental question. However the idea of nuclei contains inaccuracies that cannot be rationalized. Recent Developments in Cavitation Mechanisms discusses the uncertainties surrounding the nucleus theory, and proposes another theory of cavitation mechanism. Characteristically, the new theory is based on recent discoveries of cavity generation phenomena in separating flows. This book consists of chapters that introduce topics such as unsoundness of cavitation nuclei, and phenomena of cavity generation on walls of flow separation in hydraulic oil and water flows. Subsequent chapters cover the mechanism of cavity generation at point of flow separation, nucleation by contact motion between solids in liquid and a proposal of new cavitation mechanism based on flow separation and solid contact. The final chapters present the demonstration of a new mechanism in the hydraulic poppet valve and a concluding summary. - proposes a new mechanism of cavitation inception in liquid machines - describes in detail phenomena of cavity generation at point of flow separation recently discovered by the author - discusses peculiar properties of flow separation as cause of cavity generation - presents abundant experimental data of incipient cavitation obtained with high resolution of time and space - provides supplementary materials of slow motion videos that can help understand the very rapid and minute phenomena of cavity generation which has been discovered by the author and will be still unfamiliar to many

Book Cavitation Instabilities and Rotordynamic Effects in Turbopumps and Hydroturbines

Download or read book Cavitation Instabilities and Rotordynamic Effects in Turbopumps and Hydroturbines written by Luca d'Agostino and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-17 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a detailed approach to the physics, fluid dynamics, modeling, experimentation and numerical simulation of cavitation phenomena, with special emphasis on cavitation-induced instabilities and their implications on the design and operation of high performance turbopumps and hydraulic turbines. The first part covers the fundamentals (nucleation, dynamics, thermodynamic effects, erosion) and forms of cavitation (attached cavitation, cloud cavitation, supercavitation, vortex cavitation) relevant to hydraulic turbomachinery, illustrates modern experimental techniques for the characterization, visualization and analysis of cavitating flows, and introduces the main aspects of the hydrodynamic design and performance of axial inducers, centrifugal turbopumps and hydo-turbines. The second part focuses on the theoretical modeling, experimental analysis, and practical control of cavitation-induced fluid-dynamic and rotordynamic instabilities of hydraulic turbomachinery, with special emphasis on cavitating turbopumps (cavitation surge, rotating cavitation, higher order cavitation surge, rotordynamic whirl forces). Finally, the third part of the book illustrates the alternative approaches for the simulation of cavitating flows, with emphasis on both modeling and numerical aspects. Examples of applications to the simulation of unsteady cavitation in internal flows through hydraulic machinery are illustrated in detail.

Book Multiphase Flow Handbook Second Edition

Download or read book Multiphase Flow Handbook Second Edition written by Efstathios Michaelides and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-10-26 with total page 1559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Multiphase Flow Handbook, Second Edition is a thoroughly updated and reorganized revision of the late Clayton Crowe’s work, and provides a detailed look at the basic concepts and the wide range of applications in this important area of thermal/fluids engineering. Revised by the new editors, Efstathios E. (Stathis) Michaelides and John D. Schwarzkopf, the new Second Edition begins with two chapters covering fundamental concepts and methods that pertain to all the types and applications of multiphase flow. The remaining chapters cover the applications and engineering systems that are relevant to all the types of multiphase flow and heat transfer. The twenty-one chapters and several sections of the book include the basic science as well as the contemporary engineering and technological applications of multiphase flow in a comprehensive way that is easy to follow and be understood. The editors created a common set of nomenclature that is used throughout the book, allowing readers to easily compare fundamental theory with currently developing concepts and applications. With contributed chapters from sixty-two leading experts around the world, the Multiphase Flow Handbook, Second Edition is an essential reference for all researchers, academics and engineers working with complex thermal and fluid systems.

Book Hydrodynamics of High Speed Marine Vehicles

Book excerpt: Hydrodynamics of High-Speed Marine Vehicles, first published in 2006, discusses the three main categories of high-speed marine vehicles - vessels supported by submerged hulls, air cushions or foils. The wave environment, resistance, propulsion, seakeeping, sea loads and manoeuvring are extensively covered based on rational and simplified methods. Links to automatic control and structural mechanics are emphasized. A detailed description of waterjet propulsion is given and the effect of water depth on wash, resistance, sinkage and trim is discussed. Book In Fascination of Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book In Fascination of Fluid Dynamics written by Arie Biesheuvel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Fascination of Fluid Dynamics contains a collection of papers by international experts in hydrodynamics, based on oral presentations at a symposium held in honour of Professor Leen van Wijngaarden on his 65th birthday. The book begins with a personal sketch of his life and scientific career. It continues with a mixture of papers that address recent developments in various branches of fluid mechanics. Many of the papers cover different aspects of multiphase flows: bubble dynamics, cavitation, bubbles and particles in turbulent flows, suspension flows, and wave phenomena in fluidised beds. Other topics that are addressed include: dynamics of jets, shock waves, MHD turbulence, selforganisation phenomena in 2D turbulence, vortex rings and the thermodynamics of tropical cyclones. This edited volume will be valuable reading for researchers, engineers and students interested in hydrodynamics, and in particular in multiphase flows.
