Download or read book A Textbook of Hygiene for Training Colleges written by Margaret Avery and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Textbook of Hygiene for Training Colleges This book, which is chiefly the outcome of lectures given to my students, covers the subject-matter of the Board of Education Certificate Examination for Training Colleges, and will, I hope, be of use not only to College students, but also in connection with the work done in the new Continuation Classes and elsewhere. I have included chapters on Eugenics, Infant Welfare and Legislation affecting Children - subjects which are of such interest and importance to the community that some study of them should be included in the education of all who have reached adolescence. I have tried always to use simple words and to suggest practical applications of theoretical knowledge wherever possible - being fully convinced of the futility of Hygiene which is not practised. The teacher who settles down to give a lesson on cleanliness in a class-room covered with dust is probably doing more harm than good. The class had better first dust the room even though this be superficially suggestive of Mr. Squeers' methods of instruction. I am indebted to various authors for information. As far as possible I have acknowledged my sources in the text, but I should like specially to mention here The Annual Reports of the Chief Medical Officer of the Board of Education (Sir G. Newman), Dr. Crowley's Hygiene of School Life, rewritten by Dr. Hutt, Dr. Kerr Love's The Deaf Child, Dr. J. Kerr's School Hygiene, Dr. Slaughter's The Adolescent, various articles in School Hygiene and the Journal of the Royal Sanitary Institute. Book Text Book of Hygiene

Download or read book Text Book of Hygiene written by George H. Rohé and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-22 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of Hygiene: A Comprehensive Treatise on the Principles and Practice of Preventive Medicine From an American Standpoint The aim of the editor has been to preserve in the book the qualities which made it one of the most popular text-books on hygiene in the English language. As no one man can be a specialist in all branches of hygiene and sanitation, it was necessary to secure the assistance of other men. This had been done by the author in the former editions of this book, and the plan has been followed by the editor in the present edition, with this exception, however: in the present edition credit to the several eminent contributors is given here in the preface. Book Manual of Hygiene for Schools and Colleges Classic Reprint

Download or read book Manual of Hygiene for Schools and Colleges Classic Reprint written by Provincial Board of Health of Ontario and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-10 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Hygiene for Schools and Colleges The want has long been felt of a work on Hygiene, which would occupy an intermediate place between the elementary text-books for the use of children, and the advanced treatises for practitioners of medicine, sanitary engineers, and other persons intending to become experts in Sanitary Science. This book is designed to meet, in some degree, that want. Whilst many of the calculations, and much of the matter, contained in it are expressed in terms not suited to a child, it is, on the other hand, free, as far as may be, from technical expressions not readily understood by the ordinary reader. Whilst it is primarily intended for teachers, and for pupils in attendance at the Normal and other Schools of the higher grade it is hoped that it may be read with interest and profit by other persons; and that a perusal of it, coupled with an earnest desire to put in practice any good suggestions that may be offered, will be productive of increased health and vigor, and a lessened death rate. It is intended to present such a knowledge of sanitary matters as every intelligent citizen should possess. Download or read book The American Journal of School Hygiene Classic Reprint written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-11 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Journal of School Hygiene What was then true of schools is still to a very large extent true. Schools are notably institutions for giving a rather narrow type of intel lectual memoriter training. Their houses have been erected on small plots of land little larger than is needed for the buildings themselves, and have not taken into consideration the importance of play and outd001 physical education; they have provided one or more class rooms in a building with seats screwed to the floor and arranged for sedentary book reading; they have provided teachers who to a large extent are unlearned in the physiological aspects of children and of education. In many cases, as very recent school health surveys are appallingly illustrating, they have failed to provide in this library-school room even the first ele ments of adequate sanitation and hygiene. Book School Hygiene and the Laws of Health

Download or read book School Hygiene and the Laws of Health written by Charles Porter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from School Hygiene and the Laws of Health: A Text-Book for Teachers and Students in Training The matter upon which this book is founded, formed the basis of a course of lectures delivered to the teachers acting under the Education Committee of Sheffield and the students of the Sheffield Training College. Some of those ,who attended the lectures being kind enough to consider them of value in connection with their school work, it was determined to arrange them in book form, in the hope that the information they contained might be of assistance to teachers elsewhere. The idea of the Education Committee in arranging for the course of lectures, was to afford the teachers an opportunity of acquiring such information as might assist them in protecting the health of the school children. It was desired that the course might include instruction, not only in what have been called the "laws of health," which the teachers might in turn impart to the children, but also hints on the manner of detecting diseases likely to be met with in school. The lectures themselves were largely modelled on the plan set out in the syllabus for the Sanitary Institute examination in School Hygiene: each system in the body was taken up in turn, the structure and functions of the organs composing it were considered, and the modes in which they might be affected by school conditions and disease, and how they were to be protected were described. The arrangement adopted for the lectures has been continued in the following pages, and each system has been treated of in a separate chapter in the first part of the book. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Science of Hygiene: A d104-Book of Laboratory Practice for Public Health Students This book is intended for the use of students who are working for a diploma in public health; and it is hoped that they will find it useful not only before their examinations, but afterwards, should they happen to work again in public health laboratories. When I was working for my D.P.H. I found the first edition of Dr. Pakes' book more valuable than any other text-books on laboratory work: the arrangement of the subject matter was simple and concise, there was no unnecessary overlapping, and what the Author had to say he said plainly and directly. I have tried, in this new edition, to attain the same standard of excellence. All the practical laboratory work, apart from bacteriological methods, required by D.P.H. students, is included in this volume; and no effort has been spared to make the book complete. Many modern text-books have been consulted; but nothing has been merely transferred from these. The first edition of this book contained chapters on physics, bacteriology, and vital statistics. It was felt, however, that such subjects were better treated in other, and necessarily larger, books; and that much of these sciences could hardly be considered as laboratory work. For these reasons, no part of this volume is devoted to these subjects. On the other hand, many additions have been made, and much of the text has been re-written. Book Mental Hygiene of the School Child Classic Reprint

Download or read book Mental Hygiene of the School Child Classic Reprint written by Percival M. Symonds and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mental Hygiene of the School Child This book on mental hygiene is designed primarily for teachers, and the applications that it makes of mental hygiene principles refer primarily to school situations. Mental hygiene is a new and welcome point of View in education, representing the convergence of several streams of thought. As the name implies, it is a part of the great field of hygiene which emphasizes the well-being of the indi vidual. It crystallizes newer curriculum tendencies which stress adjustment and integration of the personality as Important goals of education. It makes possible the conservation of the interests of the whole child which the departmentalization of schools has threatened. It pro vides for the transfer to the school, in part, of the last remnant of child training that has been the exclusive prerogative of the home. It focuses attention anew on the problem of discipline, making application of all' that has been gleaned from recent developments in psychology and the study of the personality. Whereas this book is designed primarily to interpret the meaning of mental hygiene for teachers, the principles discussed, to be really effective, must have been practiced in early childhood and ought to be the possession of every parent as well as of teachers.
