Book Evangelical Theories of Biblical Inspiration

Download or read book Evangelical Theories of Biblical Inspiration written by Kern Robert Trembath and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1987-12-03 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inspiration of the Bible is central to Christian faith, yet there is no general agreement on the nature of this inspiration. In this provocative book, Kern Robert Trembath reviews seven major evangelical explanations of inspiration and demonstrates that all either view the Bible itself as the actual recipient of inspiration or explain biblical authority on grounds more appropriate to the doctrine of God--in effect investing the Bible with characteristics that properly belong only to God. Building on the work of William Abraham, Trembath constructs his own theory of inspiration--one that regards inspiration as a tripartite concept involving the elements of initiator, means, and receiver. He insists that only a human being can be the recipient of inspiration and that the Bible must therefore be understood as the means, rather than the end, of the process. He goes on to articulate a new definition of biblical inspiration--as "a mediated enhancement of human experience by God, through the Bible"--and argues that this new understanding of inspiration is most compatible with a Thomistic doctrine of God, which insists that God's acts are mediated through the world, rather than immediately occurring in it.

Download or read book What Are They Saying about Biblical Inspiration written by Mark J. Zia and published by Paulist Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six major scholars selected for their contributions in the study of biblical inspiration and who provide a veritable cross-section of the diversity of viewpoints on this topic as found in Anglo-American scholarship are surveyed. Abraham Heschel James Burtchaell Bruce Vawter William Abraham Kern Trembath Paul Achtemeier This presentation offers a constructive criticism of these insights from a Roman Catholic perspective, synthesizes their significant contributions, and shows the continuing dialogue among North American scholars in the field of biblical inspiration. A unique contribution of this book is that it affirms the traditional understanding of biblical inspiration as set forth by the Catholic Church, most notably in Dei Verbum of the Second Vatican Council, while at the same time positing the continuity between past biblical inspiration and present spiritual illumination. Book Theories of Inerrancy and Inspiration of Biblical Scriptures

Download or read book Theories of Inerrancy and Inspiration of Biblical Scriptures written by Dr. Quinton B. Richmond, PhD and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written to help all born-again Christians to believe that Eternal Life begins in our present life on earth and continue on into the World of Eternity. It is designed to impress on the minds of all humankind that those who are considered their enemies, will respond and repay them in kindness as a friend. Accordingly, the chosen subject, The Road to Eternal Life, was selected in order to broaden my knowledge and understanding of Christian believer's concepts as to why Eternal Life can be lived in our present day journey on earth, and it is a viable truth in God's plan of salvation. Also, this research is devoted to find out what concepts theories, and beliefs already exist in this area. In addition, my goal was to read and understand the history why Jesus Christ's teachings' are the Way, the Truth, and Everlasting Life for all who repent of sins and believe His Gospel. In addition, my purpose is with the intent to gain a new perspective and pursue efforts to add new thoughts and ideas and to strengthen prior ones in relation to the Kingdom of God which concerns the future and the End of Time. Furthermore, to pursue efforts in detailed reviews of other book data that contain ideas, concepts, and key theories of biblical opinions of God's Eternal Life Plan... Then analyze and evaluate these sources information and evidence used in their conclusion. Likewise, consider the values of other source ideas, theories, concepts, practices that are useful in today's religious culture. Similarly, there is the desire to pursue creative innovations efforts which set forth new theories never before revealed on the subject of Eternal Life. In addition, my efforts are directed to provide accepted meaning, and strength, and theories that already exist. Likewise, the primary design of this research is: (1). to determine what claims are made by major sources in traditional work, (2). to determine if these prior sources actually report viable data, and evaluate and assess the validity of their arguments given for rejection/acceptance of Eternal Life, (3). to determine what ideas, theories, and practices are based on inductive and deductive practices.

Book The Inspiration of Scripture

Download or read book The Inspiration of Scripture written by Paul J. Achtemeier and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 1980 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians generally agree that the Scriptures are inspired and that this doctrine is of basic importance. But how is the doctrine of inspiration to be understood and what does it mean for our Christian faith? Paul Achtemeier shows how recent knowledge of the way the Scriptures were formed raises problems in regard to the traditional understanding of inspiration. In response, he presents possibilities for a new approach to inspiration that is compatible with recent critical discoveries and allows the Bible to continue to play a meaningful role. He deals with "liberal" and "conservative" views, specific contradictions in the Bible, and what the Bible says about itself. A perceptive study, "The Inspiration of Scripture" proposes a view of inspiration that makes sense for today and probes its implications for the believer and the believing community.

Download or read book The Pauline Theory of the Inspiration of Holy Scripture Classic Reprint written by William Erskine Atwell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-19 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Pauline Theory of the Inspiration of Holy Scripture A subject which related to the operations of the Divine Spirit on the spirit of man, is, no doubt, intrinsically abstruse. Nevertheless, it has for many years appeared to me that there must be some influential cause besides at work, largely contributing to the present unsettled state of opinion on inspiration. What in the pure light of Scripture is clear, may become cloudy when compressed within the artificial enclosure of an arbitrary definition. Thus it really happened that the Pauline idea of inspiration has been lost sight of in the surrounding gloom of human improvement. In fact, the impossibility of adjusting the deductions of reason which proceed on uncertain principles, to the explicit statements of Holy Scripture, accounts for much of the present discontent occasioned by the inconsistencies abounding in many modern treatises on the subject. Book Biblical Inspiration and the Authority of Scripture

Download or read book Biblical Inspiration and the Authority of Scripture written by Carlos R. Bovell and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been some time since Catholic and liberal Protestant theologians stopped writing seriously on bibliology. Meanwhile, conservative evangelical theologians guard against the introduction of new ideas. In an effort to make headway through this gridlock, Carlos Bovell has commissioned a roundtable discussion on the prospect of whether the inspiration of Scripture might extend beyond authors and texts, and if so, what this might entail for the authority of Scripture. Taken together, the essays in this volume make an invaluable contribution to contemporary literature on the inspiration and authority of the Bible.
