Book A Temperature Distribution Analysis Along a Thermal Radiating Fin of Nonuniform Thickness

Download or read book A Temperature Distribution Analysis Along a Thermal Radiating Fin of Nonuniform Thickness written by Marion J. Janicke and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general differential equation of a thermally radiating fin is presented for the situation of a uniform heat source along the base of the fin. An electronic analog solution of a fin of non-uniform thickness with one-dimensional steady-state radiant heat transfer is presented. The specific example is concerned with a constant rate of variation of thickness; however, any general configuration could be used.

Book Effect of Variable Thermal Properties on One dimensional Heat Transfer in Radiating Fins

Download or read book Effect of Variable Thermal Properties on One dimensional Heat Transfer in Radiating Fins written by Norbert O. Stockman and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An equation is derived for the temperature distribution in a rectangular fin of infinite width and of finite length and thickness that assumes one-dimensional conduction along the finite length and radiation from both sides to an equivalent sink temperature, with material emissivity and conductivity given as functions of temperature, Results in the form of a radiating effectiveness and temperature distribution are presented for several materials and surface coatings with linearly varying conductivity and emissivity. The percent error in radiating effectiveness as a result of assuming constant properties is also given for these cases, A correlation is obtained that permits simple calculation of the heat rejected by a fin of variable conductivity and variable emissivity from the readily available data for a fin with constant properties."--P. 1.

Book Two dimensional Heat Transfer in Radiating Stainless steel clad Copper Fins

Download or read book Two dimensional Heat Transfer in Radiating Stainless steel clad Copper Fins written by Norbert O. Stockman and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of the two-dimensional heat transfer in a radiating composite fin is presented together with details of the numerical method of solution. Several stainless-steel-clad copper fins typical of finned-tube space radiators are analyzed over a range (0 to 1) of stainless-steel to copper thickness ratio. Items discussed are temperature profiles along the fin length, temperature drop across fin thickness, effective conductivity, fin efficiency, heat rejection rate per unit weight, and ratio of effective conductivity to effective density. It was found for the particular geometries analyzed that the two-dimensional temperature distribution in the fin cross section is essentially one- dimensional. The use of the thickness-averaged conductivity in one-dimensional calculations yields essentially the same results as the two-dimensional calculations.

Book The Solution of Combined Convection and Radiation Heat Transfer from Longitudinal Fins of Arbitrary Cross Section

Download or read book The Solution of Combined Convection and Radiation Heat Transfer from Longitudinal Fins of Arbitrary Cross Section written by Percy B Carter (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of combined radiative and convective heat transfer from arrays of longitudinal fins of arbitrary profile are analyzed subject to non-uniform surface emissivity and non-uniform surface film coefficients. Consideration is given to radiative interactions between adjacent fins and between fins and the base surface. Solution of the defining differential equation for fin temperature distribution is obtained through an iterative application of the B.G. Galerkin variational technique. Application of the method of solution is made to fins of parabolic, triangular, and inverse parabolic profile subject solely to the radiative mode of heat transfer. Effects in variations of the dimensionless radiation number, fin spacing, and fin surface emissivity, are investigated. Findings of the study reveal that for the pure radiative mode, fins can enhance the heat transfer between the base and the surroundings only for the case of low fin and base surface emissivity. Book Fin Shape Thermal Optimization Using Bejan s Constuctal Theory

Download or read book Fin Shape Thermal Optimization Using Bejan s Constuctal Theory written by Giulio Lorenzini and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2011-01-02 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains research results obtained by applying Bejan's Constructal Theory to the study and therefore the optimization of fins, focusing on T-shaped and Y-shaped ones. Heat transfer from finned surfaces is an example of combined heat transfer natural or forced convection on the external parts of the fin, and conducting along the fin. Fin's heat exchange is rather complex, because of variation of both temperature along the fin and convective heat transfer coefficient. Furthermore possible presence of more fins invested by the same fluid flow has to be considered. Classical fin theory tried to reduce the coupled heat transfer problem to a one-dimensional problem by defining an average temperature of the fin and writing equations using this parameter. However, it was shown that this approach cannot be used because of the effects of two-dimensional heat transfer, especially in the presence of short fins. CFD codes offer the possibility to consider bi-dimensional (and more generally, three-dimensional) effects and then a more real approach to the physic phenomena of finned surface's heat exchange. A commercial CFD code was used to analyse the case of heat exchange in presence of T-shaped fins, following an approach suggested by Bejan's Constructal Theory. The comparative results showed a significant agreement with previous research taken as a reference, and this result allows for the application of this approach to a wider range of systems. T-shaped optimized fin geometry is the starting point for further research. Starting from the optimal results (T-shape optimized fins), we show the trend of the assessment parameter (the dimensionless conductance) in function of the angle α between the two horizontal arms of the fin.
