This book was released on 2012 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine if a relationship exists between teacher-perceived levels of servant leadership in principals, teacher-perceived level of school culture, and student achievement within the Lower Kuskokwim School District. The method of analysis was a quantitative approach. The researcher collected data through two surveys, school index report, and independent school report cards and determined (a) a statistically significant relationship existed between servant leadership and school culture; (b) a statistically significant relationship did not exist between teacher-perceived principal servant leadership characteristics and student achievement and graduation percentage rates; and (c) a statistically significant relationship did not exist between teacher-perceived school culture and student achievement. The researcher collected data from two surveys, school index report, and individual school report cards and determined the correlation between teacher-perceived levels of servant leadership in principals, teacher-perceived level of school culture, and student achievement in an educational setting. The Servant Leadership Assessment Instrument collected data about the principal's servant leadership traits as perceived by the teachers in their school. The School Culture Survey collected information on the current level of school culture from teacher perceptions. The School Index Value Score collected data on student achievement data from state assessments. The Alaska State Individual Report Card collected High School Graduation Rates. The study determined there was a tri-variable positive relationship. This study will add to the research in the area of servant leadership and its potential to impact organizations and people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the effect of psychological, social and demographic variables on student achievement and summarizes the current research findings in the field. It addresses the need for inclusive and interpretive studies in the field in order to interpret student achievement literature and suggests new pathways for further studies. Appropriately, a meta-analysis approach is used by the contributors to show the big picture to the researchers by analyzing and combining the findings from different independent studies. In particular, the authors compile various studies examining the relationship between student achievement and 21 psychological, social and demographic variables separately. The philosophy behind this book is to direct future research and practices rather than addressing the limits of current studies.

This book was released on 2010 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the study was to develop an understanding of the relationships between secondary school principals' servant leadership in lower achieving and higher achieving schools and student achievement as determined by the end of course exams in Algebra I, Biology, and English II. Data on servant leadership was collected from 70 teachers from five higher achieving schools and five lower achieving schools during the fall of 2010. The data analysis for the study included independent samples t-tests and open coding. The results of the study found the two constructs of humility and vision have a significant difference in principals between the higher and lower achieving schools. Results concluded with a diagnosis of open ended questions focused on the principal's philosophy of leadership and impact on student achievement. The responses for the higher achieving schools revealed shared decision making and principal compassion and positive attitude as additional data to consider. The lower achieving schools revealed teacher autonomy and teacher input but principal decisions. The last theme to emerge with the lower achieving schools principals was positive and supportive in relation to student achievement.

Book An Examination of the Relationship Between Principals Reported Servant Leadership Traits and the Level of Parental Involvement and Presence in Alabama High Schools

Download or read book An Examination of the Relationship Between Principals Reported Servant Leadership Traits and the Level of Parental Involvement and Presence in Alabama High Schools written by Pamela P. Bearden and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Past and current educational research has shown the value of parental involvement in the education of students. However, there is still a gap in research concerning whether a relationship exists between principals perceived servant leadership abilities and parents involvement in public schools. As a result, the researcher conducted a descriptive study to explore the degree to which principals of high schools reported themselves as servant leaders and the level of parental participation in high schools. The Servant Leader Profile0́4Revised instrument was administered to the principals, and parents completed a parental involvement survey. The data were analyzed using measures of frequency and variability. A summative score determined each principal'ss mean score for the SLPR. High school principal-2 received the highest degree of servant leadership skills (6.09). High school-2 had the highest percentage of parental involvement in the areas of communication (71%), homework help (54.8%), and attendance at sporting (76.3%) and non-sporting (61.3%) events. High school principal-1 and principal-3 received mid to low range servant leadership skills (5.96, 5.89). Their high schools had lower parental involvement levels. This study provides evidence to support a relationship between a principal with higher degree of servant leadership and greater parental involvement in many areas of the school environment. The recommendations for future research concern studying servant-leader principals from dissimilar school districts, comparing servant-leader principals with differing years of experience, and assessing the leadership style of high school administrators and their teachers, as well as examining the servant leadership level of principals at high schools with PTA organizations.

Book The Relationship Between Servant Leadership and Student Achievement in Southwest Virginia Schools

Download or read book The Relationship Between Servant Leadership and Student Achievement in Southwest Virginia Schools written by Christopher Crabtree and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this correlational study is to test the theory of servant leadership that relates the servant leadership characteristics of school principals to student achievement in Southwest Virginia schools. The primary independent variable was principals' servant leadership characteristics as derived from a self-assessment survey (SASL). The dependent variable was student achievement as measured by students' scores on the Virginia Department of Education Standard of Learning achievement tests in math and reading. Other variables tested were principal total experience in education, principal total experience in administration and principal education level. The data analysis chosen for this research is the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient, which is more commonly known as either Pearson's correlation or Pearson's r. However, because 3 out of 6 variables failed normality tests, Spearman's rho, a nonparametric test, was chosen as the best analysis for the monotonic data. The results of analysis yielded a significant positive correlation of principal servant leadership characteristics and reading achievement scores. There were no other significant findings among other variables tested.

Book Servant Leadership s Impact on Campus Wide Culture and Teacher Retention Rates

Download or read book Servant Leadership s Impact on Campus Wide Culture and Teacher Retention Rates written by Benjamin W. Odell and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Servant Leadership has shown effective use in government, business, and the day to day life, but how effective would it be in the educational setting? With consistent changes to the educational paradigm affecting campus cultures, and with a huge teacher attrition rate, changes in administrative policies may be needed. This mixed methods study looks at how servant leadership impacts campus culture and teacher retention rates. This study surveyed teachers surrounding servant leadership traits, campus culture, and what factors might influence their retention within the educational system. Furthermore, teachers who quit the profession or who have left one school environment for another were interviewed to determine if servant leadership could have influenced their decision to leave. This mixed methods study was analyzed utilizing the iterative process and grounded theory, looking for the relationship between these factors in a schooling environment, and analyzing the repetitive themes that sprang forth from interviews with teachers. From this study, it appears servant leadership holds a significant correlation teacher retention rates and campus culture. With that in mind, if schools utilized a servant leadership approach, the educational system would retain more teachers and build a stronger school culture, and thus, bolster student achievement. After all, servant leadership would create more support and empowerment for teachers. It also would create stronger administrators and students. It is the recommendation of this study to utilize the servant leadership model within schools.

Book The Relationship Between the Leadership Styles of Principals and School Culture

Download or read book The Relationship Between the Leadership Styles of Principals and School Culture written by Shawn Terese Martin and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author's abstract: While it may seem that in today's society, the leaders of the school should primarily concentrate on curriculum, assessment, and accountability, there is one significant missing piece that is just as important: school culture. Recent educational reform efforts have focused on creating effective school cultures as a means of improving student achievement. Because the role of the principal is viewed as being essential to the successful implementation of these efforts, the demands on school leaders have continuously increased, which have created a multitude of challenges for school leaders across the nation. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the leadership style of principals and school culture as perceived by faculty. A total of 250 teachers from 50 elementary, middle, and high schools located in five school districts in the state of Georgia were selected to participate in this study. Data for this quantitative study were collected using the School Culture Survey, which assessed the following six factors of school culture: collaborative leadership, teacher collaboration, unity of purpose, professional development, collegial support, and learning partnership. In addition, the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire Form 5X was used to classify the leadership styles of principals as transformational, transactional, or laissez-faire. The means, standard deviations, and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients were used to examine the relationship between the variables. The results of this study indicated that there was a statistically significant relationship between most of the factors of the leadership styles of principals and the factors of school culture. More specifically, the findings indicated that a positive relationship existed between all of the factors of transformational leadership and all of the factors of school culture. In addition, one factor of transactional leadership, contingent reward, was positively correlated with school culture. On the contrary, a negative relationship existed between all of the factors of laissez-faire leadership and all of the factors of school culture.
