Book excerpt: We present preliminary results of several searches for rare charmless hadronic decays of the B meson using data collected by the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center's PEP-II storage ring. We search for the decays hh−, h+h−h+, h+h−?°, X°h+, and X°K{sub S}°, where h =? or K, and X° =?' or?. In a sample of 8.8 million B{bar B} decays they measure the branching fractions. They calculate upper limits for the modes without a significant signal.

This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes the analyses of the rare charmless hadronic B meson decays B[sup 0] [yields] [phi]K[sup 0] and B[sup 0] [yields] K*[sup +][pi][sup -], using 20.58 fb[sup -1] of e[sup +]e[sup -] data taken at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance. The data were taken with the BABAR detector during its first run at the PEP-II asymmetric e[sup +]e[sup -] collider. Measurements of these modes using a counting technique are presented with the branching fractions [Beta](B[sup 0] [yields] [phi]K[sup 0]) = (9.3 [+-] 3.4(stat.) [+-] 1.1(syst.)) x 10[sup -6] with a significance of 4.9[sigma], and [Beta](B[sup 0] [yields] K*[sup +][pi][sup -]) = (20.8 [+-] 9.3(stat.) [+-] 2.1(syst.)) x 10[sup -6] with a significance of 3.0[sigma]. For the latter, an upper limit of [Beta](B[sup 0] [yields] K*[sup +][pi][sup -])

Book Studies of Charmless Two Body Quasi Two Body and Three Body B Decays

Download or read book Studies of Charmless Two Body Quasi Two Body and Three Body B Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preliminary results are presented on a search for several exclusive charmless hadronic B decays, from data collected by the BABAR detector near the [Upsilon](4S) resonance. These include two-body decay modes h{sup {+-}}h{sup {-+}}, three-body decay modes with final states h{sup {+-}}h{sup {-+}}h{sup {+-}} and h{sup {+-}}h{sup {-+}}[pi]°, and quasi-two-body decay modes with final states X°h and X°K{sub s}°, where h = [pi] or K and X° = [eta]' or [omega]. The measurement of branching fractions for four decay modes, and upper limits for nine modes are presented.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present preliminary measurements of the branching fractions for charmless hadronic decays of B mesons into two-body final states with kaons, pions and a[phi] resonance. The measurements are based on a data sample of approximately 23 million B[bar B] pairs collected by the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present preliminary results of a search for several exclusive charmless hadronic B decays from electron-positron annihilation data collected by the BaBar detector near the Upsilon(4S) resonance. These include three-body decay modes with final states h"h{sup minus-plus}h" and h"h{sup minus-plus}pi°, and quasi-two-body decay modes with final states X°h and X°K{sub S}°, where h = pi or K and X° = eta-prime or omega. They find beta(B° --> rho{sup minus-plus}pi{sup "}) = (49"135{sup +6}) x 10−6 and beta(B --> eta-prime-K+) = (62"18{+-}8) x 10−6 and present upper limits for right other decays.

Book Study of Hadronic and Rare B Decays in BABAR

Download or read book Study of Hadronic and Rare B Decays in BABAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results from BaBar experiment for the measurement of inclusive and exclusive branching fractions of B mesons into final states containing J/[psi], [psi](2S) and [chi]c. The contributions of CP even and odd amplitudes in the decay B° 2!J/[psi]K*° are determined from an angular analysis. We report the measurements of the branching ratios B° 2!D* D*− and D* D*− K{sub S}°, and the study of exclusive two-body and quasi-two-body charmless decays. The branching fraction of the decay B° 2!K*°[gamma] has been determined and the corresponding CP asymmetry has been measured.

Book excerpt: We present a selection of recent results from studies of rare hadronic B decays based on a sample of 232 million B{bar B} pairs, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 211 fb−1, which were recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy ee− storage ring.

Book Hadronic B Decays to Open Charm at the BaBar Experiment

Download or read book Hadronic B Decays to Open Charm at the BaBar Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using about 23M B{bar B} events collected in 1999-2000 with the BABAR detector, they report on the decays B 2!D(*){bar D}(*)K and B° 2!D*D*−. The branching fractions of the low background decay modes B° 2!D*− D(*)°K are determined to be [Beta](B° 2!D*− D°K+) = (2.8 ± 0.7 ± 0.5) x 10−3 and [Beta](B° 2!D*−D*°K+) = (6.8 ± 1.7 ± 1.7) x 10−3, where the first error quoted is statistical and the second systematic. Observation of a significant number of candidates in the color-suppressed decay mode B+ 2!D*+D*− K+ is reported with a branching fraction [Beta](B+ 2!D*+D*− K+) = (3.4 ± 1.6 ± 0.9) x 10−3. Decays of the type B 2!D(*){bar D}(*) can be used to provide a measurement of the parameter sin2[beta] of the Unitarity Triangle. For this decay mode they measure a branching fraction of [Beta](B° 2!D*+D*−) = (8.0 ± 1.6 ± 1.2) x 10−4.

Book Charmless Hadronic B Decays at Belle and BaBar

Download or read book Charmless Hadronic B Decays at Belle and BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I report on recent measurements from the Belle and BABAR collaborations on the decay of the B meson to hadronic final states without a charm quark. The study of the branching fractions and angular distributions of B meson decays to hadronic final states without a charm quark probes the dynamics of both the weak and strong interactions, and plays an important role in understanding CP Violation (CPV) in the quark sector. CP Violation at the B factories is described graphically by a triangle with sides formed from the CKM matrix elements V{sub qd}V*{sub qb} (q = u, c, t) and internal angles [alpha], [beta] [gamma] (or [phi]2, [phi]1, [phi]3). Discrepancies in the measured values of the sides and angles could be an indication of New Physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) due to enhanced branching fractions or modified CP asymmetries. The experimental measurements of branching fractions, CP asymmetries, polarization and phases (both weak and strong) can be compared to theoretical models based on, for example, QCD factorization, SU(3) symmetry and Lattice QCD.
