Book excerpt: The lower Mannville group of the upper Pembina River area, about 80 miles west of Edmonton, is correlated with early Lower Cretaceous type Mannville of east-central Alberta. This correlation is based on petrographic and palaeontological evidence, and electric well logs from three wells. Sediments of the lower Mannville group were derived from slightly metamorphosed sedimentary rocks in the vicinity of the Selkirk Mountains, and deposited in an estuary that was being drowned by the southward transgression of the Clearwater Sea in Albian time.
