This book not only provides well thought out approaches to effectiveness as a construct, but also practical suggestions for improving effectiveness in organizations. A set of integrating questions that raise theoretical, conceptual, empirical, research, practical, and managerial issues are also included. This publication is intended for scholars and researchers seeking to understand and measure organizational effectiveness, as well as practitioners who are faced with the problem of managing and improving their own organization's effectiveness.

Book Enhancing Organizational Performance

Download or read book Enhancing Organizational Performance written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-04-02 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Total quality management (TQM), reengineering, the workplace of the twenty-first centuryâ€"the 1990s have brought a sense of urgency to organizations to change or face stagnation and decline, according to Enhancing Organizational Performance. Organizations are adopting popular management techniques, some scientific, some faddish, often without introducing them properly or adequately measuring the outcome. Enhancing Organizational Performance reviews the most popular current approaches to organizational changeâ€"total quality management, reengineering, and downsizingâ€"in terms of how they affect organizations and people, how performance improvements can be measured, and what questions remain to be answered by researchers. The committee explores how theory, doctrine, accepted wisdom, and personal experience have all served as sources for organization design. Alternative organization structures such as teams, specialist networks, associations, and virtual organizations are examined. Enhancing Organizational Performance looks at the influence of the organization's norms, values, and beliefsâ€"its cultureâ€"on people and their performance, identifying cultural "levers" available to organization leaders. And what is leadership? The committee sorts through a wealth of research to identify behaviors and skills related to leadership effectiveness. The volume examines techniques for developing these skills and suggests new competencies that will become required with globalization and other trends. Mergers, networks, alliances, coalitionsâ€"organizations are increasingly turning to new intra- and inter-organizational structures. Enhancing Organizational Performance discusses how organizations cooperate to maximize outcomes. The committee explores the changing missions of the U.S. Army as a case study that has relevance to any organization. Noting that a musical greeting card contains more computing power than existed in the entire world before 1950, the committee addresses the impact of new technologies on performance. With examples, insights, and practical criteria, Enhancing Organizational Performance clarifies the nature of organizations and the prospects for performance improvement. This book will be important to corporate leaders, executives, and managers; faculty and students in organizational performance and the social sciences; business journalists; researchers; and interested individuals.

Book Organizational Effectiveness

Download or read book Organizational Effectiveness written by Ivan T. Robertson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-10-17 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizational Effectiveness: The Role of Psychology examines psychological approaches in organizations, not from the more common perspective of their impact on individuals, but in relation to how the work of psychologists impacts on the overall effectiveness of the organization. It also provides a critical review of what psychology has to offer; the way psychologists choose the problems they address, work with others, and evaluate and demonstrate the impact they have. Robertson, Callinan and Bartram have brought together leading researchers and practitioners in work and organizational psychology. Each chapter provides a review of current knowledge, practice, issues and future directions in their own area of expertise, with a focus on contributions and implications for organizational functioning and the wider arena of managerial thinking. This book is for anyone interested in understanding the complex relations between individual, group and organisational performance and effectiveness. It is a valuable and challenging resource for advanced students and practitioners of occupational psychology, organizational behaviour, HRM, and psychological consultancy in organizations.

Download or read book Organization Effectiveness and Change Management written by Kondalkar and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2010-01-30 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text begins with a discussion on the definition of organizational effectiveness and its various models, and then goes on to explain the concepts of management by objectives, total quality management, business process reengineering, and six sigma, which are so crucial for organizational effectiveness. Expectations of customers are invariably increasing and quality-products are in demand more than ever before. Globalization and competition between companies have accentuated the problem. And so the text devotes a separate chapter each to such concepts as virtual organization, corporate governance, and developing collaborations. The book concludes with an emphasis on the role of motivation, leadership and team building in organization effectiveness. Case study given at the end of each chapter illustrates the concepts discussed and lends a practical flavour to the text. The book is designed for the postgraduate students of management. Book Time in Organizational Research

Download or read book Time in Organizational Research written by Robert A. Roe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2008-09-09 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today there is widespread awareness of the fact that time has been under-investigated in organizational studies. This book addresses the need to bridge the gap between the predominantly "timeless" theories and models that scholars have produced and the daily experiences of employees and managers, in which time is salient and extremely important. These chapters offer a broad range of concepts, models, and methods that are tailored to this purpose. The first part of the book is devoted to the way in which people in organizations manage time, summarizing research findings, presenting novel ideas on a broad range of issues and examining issues such as whether time can be managed, how people are affected by deadlines and how do strategic changes in organizations affect individuals’ careers and sense of identity. The second part is about time as embedded in collective behaviours and experiences, and in temporal regimes linked to organizational structures. It discusses ways to study such collective patterns and their relationships to management practices, and addresses topics such as sensemaking of dynamic events, rhythmic patterns and their impact on organizational effectiveness, time in industrial relations, and power and temporal hegemony. A third part with a single concluding chapter looks at possibilities for integrating the various approaches and provides suggestions for future research. This book adopts a pluralistic approach, arguing against timeless conceptions in organizational theory and behaviour and instead emphasising the importance of temporal analysis.
