Book Hydrologic and Geomorphic Characteristics of Rivers and Drainage Basins in the Yukon Territory

Download or read book Hydrologic and Geomorphic Characteristics of Rivers and Drainage Basins in the Yukon Territory written by Canada. Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The availability of information concerning the behavioural characteristics of river systems is a fundamental requirement in the orderly development of Water Resources in Northern Canada. It is through the study of such information that the unique problems associated with Northern development and especially water usage can be identified and solved. Various studies have been completed in the past few years on most gauged drainage basins in the Yukon Territory commencing in 1970. All of the above studies may be obtained through the Water Resources office in Whitehorse, upon request. Objective and Scope: For each drainage basin the overall objective of the study was to gather relevant data concerning the hydrologic characteristics of a selected channel reach within the basin. This data is obtained from sources including topographic maps, Water Survey of Canada (WSC) streamflow records, aerial photographs and field survey results for a study reach in each basin. Table I contains a listing of the watersheds that were studied in 1976 and gives the location of the stream gauge and the drainage area above the gauge. In Plate 1 locations of all active and inactive stream gauging stations in the Yukon Territory are shown with those stations involved in the present study and in the previous studies identified. The following sections of the report contain a description of the field program and of the approach that was taken in describing the physiographic, hydrologic and morphologic characteristics of the watershed and study reach. The individual watershed and study reach descriptions are contained in the Appendices"--ASTIS [online] database.

Book Observations on Ice Cover and Streamflow in the Yukon River Near Whitehorse During 1985 86

Download or read book Observations on Ice Cover and Streamflow in the Yukon River Near Whitehorse During 1985 86 written by Monty Alford and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Yukon Ice Seasonality Experiment (YISEXI was initiated to obtain a better understanding of physical processes affecting the ice cover on northern lake and river systems. ... This report on the third year (1985/86) of the YISEX study documents meteorological, hydrological, and ice conditions, investigates the effects of specific ice conditions (e.g., leads, ice fronts, frazil deposits, and ice ripples) on river hydraulics, and introduces a new method for the measurement of river discharge in winter. A summary comparison of the three winters is presented.

Book Observations on Ice Cover and Streamflow in the Yukon River Near Whitehorse During 1984 85

Download or read book Observations on Ice Cover and Streamflow in the Yukon River Near Whitehorse During 1984 85 written by Monty Alford and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Yukon Ice Seasonality Experiment is a study to acquire an overview of theprocesses affecting the seasonal ice cover on rivers and lakes of the YukonRiver basin, carried out in the winter of 1983/4 along a 4.3 km stretch ofthe Yukon River near Whitehorse and expanded into a second year to obtain acomparison under different weather patterns. Charcteristics such as theprocess and pattern of freeze-up, including factors controlling the growth ofshore ice; rates of growth and decay of frazil dams, including changes intheir physical properties; the effects of ice formation and ice front advanceon water levels, flow resistance, and vertical profiles of velocity; and theprocess and pattern of breakup, including the formation of ripples at theice/water interface were observed.
