Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kinematic properties of four-jet events in p[bar p] collisions at [radical]s = 1.8 TeV are compared with the predictions of leading order quantum chromodynamics. We place an upper limit on the double parton scattering cross of [sigma][sub DP] 120 nb (95% C.L.) for partons with transverse momenta greater than 18 GeV/c. Defining the effective cross section [sigma][sub eff] through the equation of [sigma][sub eff] = [sigma][sub DP] = [sigma][sub dijet]/([sup 2]/[sigma][sub eff]), where [sigma][sub dijet] is the cross section for two-jets events, the limit [sigma][sub eff] 3.9 mb (95% C.L.) is also placed. Implications for physics at the SSC ([radical]s = 40 TeV) are discussed.

Book Studies of Topological Distributions of the Three and Four jet Events in bar P p Collisions at square Root s

Download or read book Studies of Topological Distributions of the Three and Four jet Events in bar P p Collisions at square Root s written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global topologies of three- and four-jet events produced in {bar p}p interactions are described. the three- and four-jet events are selected from data recorded by the D0 detector at the Tevatron Collider operating at a center-of-mass energy of (square root)s = 1800 GeV. the measured normalized distributions of various topological variables are compared with parton-level predictions of the tree- level QCD calculations. The parton-level QCD calculations are found to be in good agreement with the data. The studies also show that the topological distributions of the different subprocesses involving different numbers of quarks are very similar and reproduce the measured distributions well.

Book Using Drell Yan to Probe the Underlying Event in Run II at Collider Detector at Fermilab CDF

Download or read book Using Drell Yan to Probe the Underlying Event in Run II at Collider Detector at Fermilab CDF written by Deepak Kar and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: We study the behavior of charged particles produced in association with Drell-Yan lepton-pairs in the region of the Z-boson in proton-antiproton collisions at 1.96 TeV. We use the direction of the Z-boson in each event to define 'toward', 'away', and 'transverse' regions. For Drell-Yan production (excluding the leptons) both the 'toward' and 'transverse' regions are very sensitive to the 'underlying event', which is defined as everything except the two hard scattered components. The data are corrected to the particle level and are then compared with several PYTHIA models (with multiple parton interactions) and HERWIG (without multiple parton interactions) at the particle level (i.e. generator level). The data are also compared with a previous analysis on the behavior of the 'underlying event' in high transverse momentum jet production. The goal is to produce data that can be used by the theorists to tune and improve the QCD Monte-Carlo models of the 'underlying event' that are used to simulate hadron-hadron collisions.

Book Studies of Multi Parton Interactions in Photon Jets Events at

Download or read book Studies of Multi Parton Interactions in Photon Jets Events at written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider sample of inclusive [gamma] + 3 jet events collected by the D0 experiment. The double parton fraction (f{sub DP}) and effective cross section [sigma]{sub eff}, a process-independent scale parameter related to the parton density inside the nucleon, are measured in three intervals of the second (ordered in p{sub T}) jet transverse momentum p{sub T}{sup jet2} within the 15 ≤ p{sub T}{sup jet2} ≤ 30 GeV range. Also we measured cross sections as a function of the angle in the plane transverse to the beam direction between the transverse momentum (p{sub T}) of the [gamma] + leading jet system and p{sub T} of the other jet for [gamma] + 2 jet, or p{sub T} sum of the two other jets for [gamma] + 3 jet events. The results are compared to different models of multiple parton interactions (MPI) in the PYTHIA and SHERPA Monte Carlo (MC) generators.
