Book A Study of Bounded Variation Sequence Spaces

Download or read book A Study of Bounded Variation Sequence Spaces written by Vakeel A. Khan and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the theory of classes of sequence, a wonderful application of Hahn-Banach extension theorem gave rise to the concept of Banach limit, i.e., the limit functional defined on c can be extended to the whole space l ,àû and this extended functional is called as the Banach limit. After that, in 1948 Lorentz used this concept of a week limit to introduce a new type of convergence, named as the almost convergence. Later on, Raimi generalized the concept of almost convergence known as œÉ ,àí convergence and the sequence space BV œÉ was introduced and studied by Mursaleen. The main aim of this chapter is to study some new double sequence spaces of invariant means defined by ideal, modulus function and Orlicz function. Furthermore, we also study several properties relevant to topological structures and inclusion relations between these spaces.

Book Bounded Variation and Around

Download or read book Bounded Variation and Around written by Jürgen Appell and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-12-12 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this monograph is to give a thorough and self-contained account of functions of (generalized) bounded variation, the methods connected with their study, their relations to other important function classes, and their applications to various problems arising in Fourier analysis and nonlinear analysis. In the first part the basic facts about spaces of functions of bounded variation and related spaces are collected, the main ideas which are useful in studying their properties are presented, and a comparison of their importance and suitability for applications is provided, with a particular emphasis on illustrative examples and counterexamples. The second part is concerned with (sometimes quite surprising) properties of nonlinear composition and superposition operators in such spaces. Moreover, relations with Riemann-Stieltjes integrals, convergence tests for Fourier series, and applications to nonlinear integral equations are discussed. The only prerequisite for understanding this book is a modest background in real analysis, functional analysis, and operator theory. It is addressed to non-specialists who want to get an idea of the development of the theory and its applications in the last decades, as well as a glimpse of the diversity of the directions in which current research is moving. Since the authors try to take into account recent results and state several open problems, this book might also be a fruitful source of inspiration for further research.

Book Functions of Bounded Variation

Download or read book Functions of Bounded Variation written by Simon Reinwand and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021-04-15 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functions of bounded variation are most important in many fields of mathe¬matics. This thesis investigates spaces of functions of bounded variation with one variable of various types, compares them to other classical function spaces and reveals natural “habitats” of BV-functions. New and almost comprehensive results concerning mapping properties like surjectivity and injectivity, several kinds of continuity and compactness of both linear and nonlinear operators bet¬ween such spaces are given. A new theory about different types of convergence of sequences of such operators is presented in full detail and applied to a new proof for the continuity of the composition operator in the classical BV-space. The abstract results serve as ingredients to solve Hammerstein and Volterra in¬tegral equations using fixed point theory. Many criteria guaranteeing the exis¬tence and uniqueness of solutions in BV-type spaces are given and later applied to solve boundary and initial value problems in a nonclassical setting. A big emphasis is put on a clear and detailed discussion. Many pictures and syn¬optic tables help to visualize and summarize the most important ideas. Over 160 examples and counterexamples illustrate the many abstract results and how de¬licate some of them are.

Download or read book Applied Mathematics written by Bruno Carpentieri and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-09-25 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains well-written monographs within the broad spectrum of applied mathematics, offering an interesting reading of some of the current trends and problems in this fascinating and critically important field of science to a broad category of researchers and practitioners. Recent developments in high-performance computing are radically changing the way we do numerics. As the size of problems is expected to grow very large in the future, the gap between fast and slow algorithms is growing rapidly. Novel classes of numerical methods with reduced computational complexity are therefore needed to make the rigorous numerical solution of difficult problems arising in an industrial setting more affordable. The book is structured in four distinct parts, according to the purpose and approaches used in the development of the contributions, ranging from optimization techniques to graph-oriented approaches and approximation theory, providing a good mix of both theory and practice.

Book Sequence Spaces and Measures of Noncompactness with Applications to Differential and Integral Equations

Download or read book Sequence Spaces and Measures of Noncompactness with Applications to Differential and Integral Equations written by Józef Banaś and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the study of sequence spaces, matrix transformations, measures of noncompactness and their various applications. The notion of measure of noncompactness is one of the most useful ones available and has many applications. The book discusses some of the existence results for various types of differential and integral equations with the help of measures of noncompactness; in particular, the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness has been applied to obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for matrix operators between BK spaces to be compact operators. The book consists of eight self-contained chapters. Chapter 1 discusses the theory of FK spaces and Chapter 2 various duals of sequence spaces, which are used to characterize the matrix classes between these sequence spaces (FK and BK spaces) in Chapters 3 and 4. Chapter 5 studies the notion of a measure of noncompactness and its properties. The techniques associated with measures of noncompactness are applied to characterize the compact matrix operators in Chapters 6. In Chapters 7 and 8, some of the existence results are discussed for various types of differential and integral equations, which are obtained with the help of argumentations based on compactness conditions.

Book From Approximate Variation to Pointwise Selection Principles

Download or read book From Approximate Variation to Pointwise Selection Principles written by Vyacheslav V. Chistyakov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-22 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses the minimization of special lower semicontinuous functionals over closed balls in metric spaces, called the approximate variation. The new notion of approximate variation contains more information about the bounded variation functional and has the following features: the infimum in the definition of approximate variation is not attained in general and the total Jordan variation of a function is obtained by a limiting procedure as a parameter tends to zero. By means of the approximate variation, we are able to characterize regulated functions in a generalized sense and provide powerful compactness tools in the topology of pointwise convergence, conventionally called pointwise selection principles. The book presents a thorough, self-contained study of the approximate variation and results which were not published previously in book form. The approximate variation is illustrated by a large number of examples designed specifically for this study. The discussion elaborates on the state-of-the-art pointwise selection principles applied to functions with values in metric spaces, normed spaces, reflexive Banach spaces, and Hilbert spaces. The highlighted feature includes a deep study of special type of lower semicontinuous functionals though the applied methods are of a general nature. The content is accessible to students with some background in real analysis, general topology, and measure theory. Among the new results presented are properties of the approximate variation: semi-additivity, change of variable formula, subtle behavior with respect to uniformly and pointwise convergent sequences of functions, and the behavior on improper metric spaces. These properties are crucial for pointwise selection principles in which the key role is played by the limit superior of the approximate variation. Interestingly, pointwise selection principles may be regular, treating regulated limit functions, and irregular, treating highly irregular functions (e.g., Dirichlet-type functions), in which a significant role is played by Ramsey’s Theorem from formal logic.

Book The Dirichlet Space and Related Function Spaces

Download or read book The Dirichlet Space and Related Function Spaces written by Nicola Arcozzi and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of the classical Dirichlet space is one of the central topics on the intersection of the theory of holomorphic functions and functional analysis. It was introduced about100 years ago and continues to be an area of active current research. The theory is related to such important themes as multipliers, reproducing kernels, and Besov spaces, among others. The authors present the theory of the Dirichlet space and related spaces starting with classical results and including some quite recent achievements like Dirichlet-type spaces of functions in several complex variables and the corona problem. The first part of this book is an introduction to the function theory and operator theory of the classical Dirichlet space, a space of holomorphic functions on the unit disk defined by a smoothness criterion. The Dirichlet space is also a Hilbert space with a reproducing kernel, and is the model for the dyadic Dirichlet space, a sequence space defined on the dyadic tree. These various viewpoints are used to study a range of topics including the Pick property, multipliers, Carleson measures, boundary values, zero sets, interpolating sequences, the local Dirichlet integral, shift invariant subspaces, and Hankel forms. Recurring themes include analogies, sometimes weak and sometimes strong, with the classical Hardy space; and the analogy with the dyadic Dirichlet space. The final chapters of the book focus on Besov spaces of holomorphic functions on the complex unit ball, a class of Banach spaces generalizing the Dirichlet space. Additional techniques are developed to work with the nonisotropic complex geometry, including a useful invariant definition of local oscillation and a sophisticated variation on the dyadic Dirichlet space. Descriptions are obtained of multipliers, Carleson measures, interpolating sequences, and multiplier interpolating sequences; estimates are obtained to prove corona theorems.
