Book Automatic Flight Control Systems

Download or read book Automatic Flight Control Systems written by Mohammad Sadraey and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2020-02-14 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides readers with a design approach to the automatic flight control systems (AFCS). The AFCS is the primary on-board tool for long flight operations, and is the foundation for the airspace modernization initiatives. In this text, AFCS and autopilot are employed interchangeably. It presents fundamentals of AFCS/autopilot, including primary subsystems, dynamic modeling, AFCS categories/functions/modes, servos/actuators, measurement devices, requirements, functional block diagrams, design techniques, and control laws. The book consists of six chapters. The first two chapters cover the fundamentals of AFCS and closed-loop control systems in manned and unmanned aircraft. The last four chapters present features of Attitude control systems (Hold functions), Flight path control systems (Navigation functions), Stability augmentation systems, and Command augmentation systems, respectively.

Book A Study of an Automatic Landing System with Provisions for Decrab

Download or read book A Study of an Automatic Landing System with Provisions for Decrab written by Harold L. Arner and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dynamics of glideslope and localizer tracking, exponential flare and decrab are studied to synthesize an automatic flight control system capable of providing for an automatic landing in the presence of crosswind. The existing autopilot of the C-141A aircraft is supplemented to provide this capability. Root-locus analysis is performed to determine system responses, and analog simulation of the system is conducted. The control equation for an exponential flare path is determined by specifying a nominal sink rate at touchdown. Decrab is achieved by establishing a constant sideslip which opposes the crosswind. Complete decrab is found to be limited by physical limitations on aileron deflection. (Author).

Book Automatic Control of Aircraft and Missiles

Download or read book Automatic Control of Aircraft and Missiles written by John H. Blakelock and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1991-09-03 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Second Edition continues the fine tradition of its predecessor by exploring the various automatic control systems in aircraft and on board missiles. Considerably expanded and updated, it now includes new or additional material on: the effectiveness of beta-beta feedback as a method of obtaining coordination during turns using the F-15 as the aircraft model; the root locus analysis of a generic acceleration autopilot used in many air-to-air and surface-to-air guided missiles; the guidance systems of the AIM-9L Sidewinder as well as bank-to-turn missiles; various types of guidance, including proportional navigation and line-of-sight and lead-angle command guidance; the coupling of the output of a director fire control system into the autopilot; the analysis of multivariable control systems; and methods for modeling the human pilot, plus the integration of the human pilot into an aircraft flight control system. Also features many new additions to the appendices.

Book An Automatic throttle Device for Airspeed Control During Flare to Field Landings

Download or read book An Automatic throttle Device for Airspeed Control During Flare to Field Landings written by Robert Louis Elich and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is a continuation of the investigations in the use of automatic-throttle compensation systems. The previous investigations demonstrated the capability of such systems in alleviating the problems of aircraft speed instability in the carrier landing approach. The feasibility of adapting the system with sensed-input variables of angle-of-attack and normal acceleration to the condition of field landings with flare was investigated. An analysis of the ground effect prevalent in field landings was performed and the significant influences on aircraft response were included in the investigation. The desired airspeed control with zero rate of descent at touchdown was obtained by incorporating additional commands in the basic auto-throttle device during the flare maneuver. The analog computer was utilized for problem simulation. (Author).
