Book excerpt: Curated by the chief editor of the American Journal of Sexuality Education, this book presents engaging and accessible chapters that capture current and essential research findings from leaders in the sexuality education field. William J. Taverner brings together an impressive array of contributors to help sexuality professionals remain up-to-date on the most relevant issues in sex education today. Covering a spectrum of hot sexuality education topics, including abstinence, gender, innovative programs, pleasure, the politics of sexuality education, porn literacy, sexual orientation, and more, each chapter describes key findings on a particular topic, their significance, their practical application, and how these new developments have arrived. The book includes chapters that address individuals across all age ranges, from children to older adults, as well as sexuality education and training programs for specialized professions, such as nurses and school-based health occupations. Practical and clear, this book identifies priorities and trends in the field, addresses marginalized audiences and overlooked topics, and hopes to encourage important discussions to come. Sex Education Research: A Look Between the Sheets provides a wide range of occupations and academic disciplines with a foundation of research essential to their work, such as public health professionals and students of human sexuality, gender studies, biology, psychology, sociology, as well as community educators, school nurses and health teachers, and administrative leaders affiliated with sexuality education programs at community-based organizations.

Book Characterizing the HIV AIDS Epidemic in the Middle East and North Africa

Download or read book Characterizing the HIV AIDS Epidemic in the Middle East and North Africa written by Francisca Ayodeji Akala and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2010 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Despite global progress in understanding the epidemiology of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), knowledge about the epidemic in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) remains limited and subject to much controversy. In the more than 25 years since the discovery of HIV, no scientific study has provided a comprehensive, data-driven synthesis of the spread of HIV/AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) in the region. Consequently, the effectiveness of policies, programs, and resources intended to address the spread of HIV/AIDS has been compromised. This report aims to fill the knowledge gap by providing the first-ever comprehensive scientific assessment and data-driven epidemiological synthesis of HIV's spread in MENA. It is based on a literature review and analysis of thousands of largely unrecognized publications, reports, and data sources extracted from scientific literature or collected from sources at the local, national, and regional levels. The resulting collection of data provides a solid foundation on which efforts to stem the spread of HIV/AIDS can be based. 'Characterizing the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in the Middle East and North Africa' will be of particular interest to policy makers, researchers, development practitioners, and specialists in public health and epidemiology."

Book Handbook of Sexuality Related Measures

Download or read book Handbook of Sexuality Related Measures written by Clive M. Davis and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1998 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamental to understanding human sexual expression is reliable and valid measurement and assessment. Many instruments have been developed to measure a myriad of sexuality-related states, traits, behaviors, and outcomes. Few are easily accessible and the information is limited concerning appropriate use and psychometric properties. In Handbook of Sexuality-Related Measures, more than 200 instruments are reproduced, accompanied by the necessary information for their use in research, as well as educational and clinical settings. Measures relating to more than 50 topics are included. Examples are abortion, aging, arousal, general and specific attitudes and behavior, contraception, dysfunctions, education, experience, gender identity, homosexuality, ideology, jealousy, knowledge, masturbation, orgasm, rape, and sexually transmitted diseases. Each chapter describes the development and appropriate use of each instrument, giving information on timing, scoring, and interpretation. Reliability and validity data are, summarized and completely referenced. Nearly all articles include the entire instrument; others provide illustrative content from the instrument and give all necessary information to obtain the instrument.
