Book POLICING MASS TRANSIT

Download or read book POLICING MASS TRANSIT written by Kurt R. Nelson and published by Charles C Thomas Publisher. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive examination of the topics needed to insure the public's safety while using mass transit. Not only will law enforcement professionals and students find it a useful reference, it is also of benefit to transit managers and planners who need to incorporate safety and security design into a mass transit system. The first section of the book discusses the foundations of creating a systematic approach to safety and security. The initial chapter establishes the community orientation needed for creating a stakeholder-vested transit system. From that foundation, an examination of information management and planning finish the discourse on the elemental portions of creating a total system. The next section divides mass transit into its basic components of buses, light rail, and fixed locations/stations. Each component requires consideration of unique or specialized issues. Finally, the last section covers specific topics of concern, such as terrorism, youths, gangs, mentally ill, homeless, and other pertinent areas of interest to both transit policing and system management. Policing Mass Transit is a book well-suited to students, planners, transit managers, and law enforcement officers. It is a comprehensive approach to designing a safe, secure, and desirable mass transit system.

Book Sustainable Approaches to Urban Transport

Download or read book Sustainable Approaches to Urban Transport written by Dinesh Mohan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-07-02 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As cities become increasingly congested, current transport patterns are unsustainable: heavy in energy use, high in economic and environmental cost, and exacerbating inequity between those who can access high-speed travel and those who cannot. Good urban planning develops human-scale cities and encourages modes such as bicycles, increased zones exclusive to pedestrians within cities, and changed fiscal policies to incentivize public over private transport. Equally, it requires good engineering design to manage road use. Sustainable Approaches to Urban Transport brings together contributions from leading international experts in urban planning, transport, and governance who suggest changes to make our cities more sustainable in the face of climate change. All professionals working in transport and engineering and planning students will find an overview of a broad field in this interdisciplinary collection of essays.

Book Politics Markets and EU Gas Supply Security

Download or read book Politics Markets and EU Gas Supply Security written by Sandu-Daniel Kopp and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sandu-Daniel Kopp investigates whether carbon reduction targets are compatible with market-driven competition in gas (and power) industries, and whether security of supply is compatible with competitive markets. He examines the policy trade-offs which need to be made between the three different elements, and whether these policy judgements should be economically or politically based. The analysis shows the need for a complex set of politically determined options to protect (competitive) markets from price risks and emergency events and demonstrates that this has thus far failed the policy test. Overall, the author argues that the three major elements of EU energy policy are incompatible in important respects and thereby challenges much of the conventional wisdom of EU and Member State policies of the past decade.
