Download or read book Historic Tales of La Jolla written by Patricia Daly-Lipe and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-23 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first settlers to arrive here in 1869 purchased 160 acres for two dollars and change. La Jolla attracted artists, architects, writers and scientists over the years, contributing to today's prized reputation as a valuable world-class destination. Their stories shaped the fascinating history of this seaside village. Pirates and smugglers hid out in Sunny Jim's Cave. Ellen Browning Scripps, the Godmother of La Jolla, founded institutions and recreation areas for not only La Jollans but also the rest of the world, including the famous Children's Pool and Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Theodor Geisel derived inspiration for his art from La Jolla's landscapes and people. Native La Jollan Patricia Daly-Lipe recalls the stories of these and many other people and places that have molded the village of La Jolla into a natural and cultural wonder.

Download or read book Degrees of Obsession written by Karen Stephen and published by Booksurge Publishing. This book was released on 2005-10-14 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charlie Pederson, fierce but flawed like all women who have loved deeply and lost, takes a dangerous thrill ride from risky infatuation to the edge of disaster when she stalks her still suck-the-breath-out-of-you handsome college flame. As a therapist, Charlie knows she should abandon her crazed obsession over Danny Shapiro. But as a woman turning fifty and stifled in her marriage to deadly dull Harold, she finds herself driven to take a dicey last chance to find all that her heart needs. Little does she suspect that an impulsive visit to Danny's law office will make her the target of a homicidal erotomaniac. As she chases Danny down, she jeopardizes her professional reputation, infuriates her best friend, alienates her husband, and risks exposing the most painful secret of her life. DEGREES OF OBSESSION has it all-juicy romance and heart-pounding suspense. Best of all, it shines light on the fears, follies, and fantasies that drive the choices women make and on the love that redeems them.
Download or read book The Greatest Love Story Never Told written by Richard Orion and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story is based on a true love story that spanned almost two decades. The names and places have been changed to protect the privacy of the individuals involved in this affair. The chronological sequence of events has been maintained for continuity. All the stories and experiences are based on facts. This book is about a love story that was kept secret for 18 years and perhaps shouldve remained a secret. The first book related to this love story was a book of poems entitled Somewhere, Sometime, Somehow: Love Poems and Short Stories published in 2008 by this author and Xlibris. For the perceptive reader of this book one can trace the ups and downs of our love relationship. These 18 years were filled with robust love and passion for each other. Perhaps it was fantasy; perhaps it was the most real thing we will ever experience. The heartbreaking part of this love affair is that I am not really sure my lover ever really understood or appreciated my profound and unconditional love for her. I opened my heart to her through poetry and thoughtful letters, but she rarely showed me what was in her heart. Perhaps it was a one-sided love affair, but I surely think and hope not. I was convinced that she truly loved me through her words and actions. At least I experienced a pure love that I had only dreamed was possible. The story is told mainly through the exchange of letters and emails to each other. Perhaps readers can experience and hopefully feel the deep love we felt for each other.

Download or read book Unintended Consequences written by Nathan E. Martin M.D. DNB DABA and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-06-26 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes the things that happened to me over ninety years of my life. It begins with my childhood, progressing through all levels of school, military service, medical career, and retirement. Some of it is sad. Some is hilarious, and some will make you very happy. You will read about the smart things I did wellsome that were really stupid and some that I regret. You will learn about the workings of a feed mill run by a waterwheel. The artificial insemination of cattle may be something amazing to you. Life in Korea in the army was depressing from start to finish. I consider it the lowest point of my life. It was endless, pointless, and a constant source of irritation to all concerned. It was the first war we fought without the goal of winning. We have not won a war since. The practice of medicine was fascinating, watching new drugs being made, new equipment introduced, and new techniques developed constantly. It was a great time of innovation, and I always looked forward to the next advancement.
