Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas provides an accurate and detailed depiction of all brain structures at fetal stage E17.5, Day of birth, and Day 6 postnatal. In addition to brain structures, the atlas delineates peripheral nerves, ganglia, arteries, veins, muscles bones and other organs. It is an indispensable guide for the interpretation of nervous system changes in gene knockout and transgenic mice. Contains: 43 photographs and drawings of Nissl-stained coronal sections of the brain of a fetal mouse at E17.5 days, 65 photographs and drawings of Nissl-stained coronal sections of the brain of a mouse on the day of birth, and 73 photographs and drawings of Nissl-stained coronal sections of the brain of a mouse aged 6 days postnatal. The drawings are based on the study of sections stained with Nissl and a range of neuroactive substances. In addition to brain structures, the atlas delineates peripheral nerves, ganglia, arteries, veins, muscles bones and other organs.

Book The Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates

Download or read book The Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates written by George Paxinos and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates provides an atlas of the rat brain. The main features of this atlas are: (1) It is based on the flat-skull position, and bregma, lambda, or the midpoint of the interaural line can be used as a reference point. (2) The atlas is based on the study of 130 adult male Wistar rats (with a weight range of 270-310 g). It is suitable for brains of 250-350 g male rats. (3) It represents all areas of the brain and spinal cord, and brain areas are shown in coronal, sagittal, and horizontal planes. The brain sections shown were taken at 0.5 mm intervals and were stained with either cresyl violet or for the demonstration of acetylcholinesterase (AChE). (4) It is based on fresh brains frozen in the skull (using deeply anaesthetized rats) in order to overcome distortion produced by fixation and to enhance staining contrast. (5) Structures are delineated on the basis of data on cytoarchitecture, connectivity, histochemistry, and development. The book is intended for researchers and graduate students in the neurosciences. Senior undergraduates should also find the atlas a useful adjunct to readings and lectures in brain anatomy and function.

Book RAT BRAIN IN STEREOTAXIC CRDINATS 2EPPR

Download or read book RAT BRAIN IN STEREOTAXIC CRDINATS 2EPPR written by George Paxinos and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates, Second Edition is an atlas of the rat brain based on the convenient flat-skull position that is sufficiently comprehensive and stereotaxically accurate for adult rats. The rat brain is analyzed through stereotaxic localization of discrete brain areas and the subdivisions of many areas of rat brain are mapped using plates and diagrams. Photographs of sufficient magnification are included to permit investigators to judge for themselves the veracity of the atlas delineations. This atlas is based on the study of 130 adult male Wistar rats (with a weight range of 270-310 g). It is suitable for brains of 250-350 g male and female rats and represents all areas of the brain and spinal cord. Brain areas are shown in coronal, sagittal, and horizontal planes. The brain sections shown were taken on average at 0.25 mm intervals and were stained with either cresyl violet or for the demonstration of acetylcholinesterase (AChE). The atlas is based on fresh brains frozen in the skull (using deeply anesthetized rats) in order to overcome distortion produced by fixation and to enhance staining contrast. Structures are delineated on the basis of data on cytoarchitecture, chemoarchitecture, and connectivity. The procedures used for surgery, histology, and photography are also explained. This atlas is intended for use by researchers and graduate students in the neuroscience, as well as senior undergraduates interested in brain anatomy and function.
