Book Fundraising and Division I A College Athletics

Download or read book Fundraising and Division I A College Athletics written by Hebing Brad and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-06-18 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the Council for Aid to Education (2003) alumni contributed 25 percent towards higher education in 2002, followed by non-alumni at 23 percent. Non-alumni are a viable force in support of college athletics, yet the predominance of donor research has targeted alumni donors, with very little consideration paid to non-alumni. This investigation determined the demographic and alumnus affiliation characteristics and compared the motives by gender and alumnus affiliation. The Institutional Athletics Donor Questionnaire consisted of an affiliation section, a motivation section, and a demographic section. The 22 motivation constructs were adopted from Staurowsky's (1994) ACQUIRE-II instrument and factored into six groups: Benefits, Power, Philanthropic, Social, Success1, and Success2. A sample of 1,100 booster club members from two Division I-A universities resulted in 410 usable surveys. A criterion for alumnus status was having earned a degree at the university from which they donated.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study, based on data from 56 colleges, looks closely at fundraising and advancement efforts run by athletics departments themselves. The data is broken out for Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3 colleges, and for public and private colleges, by enrollment and type of college. The report covers personnel and salaries, costs and results, as well as detailed data on the effectiveness of various fundraising channels and methods including use of blogs for campaigns, email campaigns, brick campaigns, use of YouTube, Vimeo , Facebook, Google+, Twittter and other social media. The study presents precise data on the impact of booster clubs, the results from selling facility naming rights, and of efforts to raise funds from former athletes who went to the college. The study also looks at the state of relations between the general college advancement office and the advancement offices of athletic departments, as well as at how athletic departments evaluate their fundraising efforts. Other issues include a look at the use of fundraising consultants, the structure of incentives for giving and the use of rewards for donors, among other issues.

Download or read book College Sports Inc written by Frank P. Jozsa Jr. and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-24 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several decades in America, athletic programs in colleges and universities received financial support and resources primarily from their respective schools and such sources as alumni and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). More recently, however, college coaches assigned to athletic departments and the presidents and marketing or public relations officials of schools organize, initiate, and participate in fund-raising campaigns and thus obtain a portion of revenue for their sports programs from local, regional and national businesses, and from other private donors, groups, and organizations. Because of this inflow of assets and financial capital, intercollegiate athletic budgets and types of sports expanded and in turn, these programs became increasingly important, popular, and reputable as revenue and cost centers within American schools of higher education.

Book An Analysis of the Financial Impact of Changing Athletic Conference Affiliation Within the NCAA

Download or read book An Analysis of the Financial Impact of Changing Athletic Conference Affiliation Within the NCAA written by Christopher Parker and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this causal comparative study was to provide Division I athletic programs with athletic and institutional fundraising insight when considering a change in athletic conference affiliation. The study provided descriptive data regarding athletic conference affiliation pre and post-conference change. The research evaluated if there was a significant increase in athletic and educational fundraising when changing athletic conferences. The quantitative study compared educational and athletic foundations' IRS 990 forms for 15 NCAA Division 1 institutions that changed athletic conferences between 2012 and 2013. Data was analyzed using an ANOVA and t-tests from the institutions' academic and athletic foundations. The results of pre-conference affiliation and post-conference change were evaluated and they indicated that there is not a significant increase in fundraising for either the athletic or educational fundraising foundations, thus failing to reject the null hypotheses. Suggestions for further research are noted.

This book was released on 2015-08-31 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Higher education and intercollegiate athletics have long had a complicated relationship. Examining the interconnection between the two and from a variety of theoretical and practical angles, this volume highlights many of the debates surrounding higher education and intercollegiate athletics and the financial dependency between these two long-standing entities. Topics include: a comprehensive history of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, an examination of the funding mechanisms utilized by intercollegiate athletic departments, an in-depth magnification of the increasing corporatization of higher education and athletics, and a look into potential future debates and lines of inquiry surrounding this topic. This is the 5th issue of the 41st volume of the Jossey-Bass series ASHE Higher Education Report. Each monograph is the definitive analysis of a tough higher education issue, based on thorough research of pertinent literature and institutional experiences. Topics are identified by a national survey. Noted practitioners and scholars are then commissioned to write the reports, with experts providing critical reviews of each manuscript before publication.
