Download or read book A Smuggler s Guide to Good Manners written by Kenny Ranen and published by . This book was released on 2017-06-27 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A true story of terrifying seas, double-dealing, and love across three oceans, taking the reader on a smuggling voyage from the Atlantic down the Red Sea to Kenya, to Thailand and back across the Indian Ocean to Spain and the Netherlands. Notwithstanding medical emergencies at sea, sharks, pirates, monsoon storms, and the Guardia Civil, backing off was not an option. As much a story told from the life of the author, it is the story of a young "Kenya Cowgirl", Arianna, who became his crew and lover, as re-told through her journal entries. It is a story still passed along in a hundred bars in faraway ports where seafarers drink and wait out stormy weather.

Book The Shaker s Guide to Good Manners

Download or read book The Shaker s Guide to Good Manners written by Flo Morse and published by The Countryman Press. This book was released on 2017-02-14 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intimate guide to life as a Shaker in 19th century America "Never make more free with your inferiors than you are willing they should make with you; it learns them to be saucy." Such sage words of advice come from Mother Ann Lee's Society of the Shakers, who in 1844 published A Juvenile Guide, or Manual of Good Manners, Consisting of Counsels, Instructions, & Rules of Deportment for the Young. Known for their piety, their economy, and (perhaps most famously) their celibacy, the Shakers knew a thing or two about etiquette and proper decorum. With this incredible artifact of a bygone era, you can experience what it was like to live in a rural 19th century religious community, where children were taught to "be careful not to talk too loud, nor too much" and to "always have a place for every thing, and keep every thing in its place."

Book Teach Yourself Good Manners

Download or read book Teach Yourself Good Manners written by W S Norman and published by Teach Yourself. This book was released on 2017-09-07 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1958, Teach Yourself Good Manners is a fascinating guide, packed full of both timeless advice and tips that demonstrate just how much life has changed in the 60 years since it published. Indeed, the author, W S Norman, would doubtless be horrified by modern manners and would implore us to study his rather uptight but very funny rules for modern living. Amusing, intriguing and sometimes rather inspiring, this handbook is a window into how life would have looked had we lived in a 'a simpler age' - in which, confusingly, they had rather a lot of strange rules. Since 1938, millions of people have learned to do the things they love with Teach Yourself. Welcome to the how-to guides that changed the modern world.
