Book A Small Contribution

Download or read book A Small Contribution written by Morris R. Heney and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-08-30 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “What is a great man who has made his mark upon history? Every time, if we think far enough, he is a man who has looked through the confusion of the moment and has seen the moral issue involved; he is a man who has refused to have his sense of justice distorted; he has listened to his conscience until conscience becomes a trumpet call to like-minded men so that they gather about him, and together, with mutual purpose and mutual aid, they make a new period in history” ( Jane Addams, 1860–1935). This is a quote from Jane Addams, the great American settlement activist, reformer, public administrator, and author who was born in 1860 in Cedarville, Illinois, and died in 1935 in Chicago, Illinois. She is without a doubt one of the most important leaders in the history of social work. Her twenty years at Hull House are a testimony of her service to those segments of our population that were in dire need for assistance. Social workers all over our land are carrying her torch in the search of truth and knowledge. We feel most honored to be the heirs of this great tradition of service. We as a nation are beginning to value the importance of trained social workers to intervene following a crisis. A Small Contribution: Memoirs of a Social Worker is both an inspiration and a tool for those men and women in the trenches, heirs of the legacy of the founders of the social work profession.

Book Small Contribution Big Difference

Download or read book Small Contribution Big Difference written by Arshdeep Singh Veer and published by SEHYOG. This book was released on 2015-04-15 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small Contribution Big Difference; as the name describes, this book sheds light on the basis of contribution. Although the contribution is a small word to hear but its meanings are very deep to understand. Because our small contribution can make a big difference in our society, or in the lives of our loved ones, people around us, the people who are needy and poor. This book is written to make everyone aware of the process of contribution and to make us think about how valuable a contribution is in our lives. Contributing is not a difficult task, it is a simple mindset that motivates and enables us to change our lifestyle to contribute some of our time, money, or resources to the lives of others. Because often what happens to us, at first we don't even think about contributing, we don't know why we should contribute, why we should do something good for society, why we should help others. And even if we realize it and make up our minds to do something, then we are unable to find the right way to contribute according to our abilities and resources. So this book introduces us to many reasons around the world for which our different contributions can make a difference. Because there are so many issues in society such as poverty, natural disasters, discrimination that affect basic human needs like food, clothing, shelter, education, etc. so through this book, we will be able to explore different ways by which We can help those in need and those who have been affected for some reason, Whether it's someone in our family, someone we love, our neighbor, a citizen of our nation, or anyone in the world, we can make their lives a little better by contributing. This book also highlights some of the major evils of our society that are making our world very dirty and how we can get rid of these evils and raise our voice against them. After reading this book we can realize that not only a big contribution can make a big difference in the world, even our small contribution can make a big difference. If we think we have a lack of resources that’s why we are unable to contribute, then that is not true, there is only one thing we need that is a positive mind set by which we can contribute and devote ourselves anytime. So hopefully this book will help all of us to see the world differently and make us able to find the real purpose of our life that will give us a life fulfillment and we would become capable to give back to the society. In addition to this, there are many other ways to contribute and there are other social issues that need to be considered that are not covered in this edition due to some limitations, but hopefully they will definitely be considered in next editions.

Book The Progress Principle

Download or read book The Progress Principle written by Teresa Amabile and published by Harvard Business Press. This book was released on 2011-07-19 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What really sets the best managers above the rest? It’s their power to build a cadre of employees who have great inner work lives—consistently positive emotions; strong motivation; and favorable perceptions of the organization, their work, and their colleagues. The worst managers undermine inner work life, often unwittingly. As Teresa Amabile and Steven Kramer explain in The Progress Principle, seemingly mundane workday events can make or break employees’ inner work lives. But it’s forward momentum in meaningful work—progress—that creates the best inner work lives. Through rigorous analysis of nearly 12,000 diary entries provided by 238 employees in 7 companies, the authors explain how managers can foster progress and enhance inner work life every day. The book shows how to remove obstacles to progress, including meaningless tasks and toxic relationships. It also explains how to activate two forces that enable progress: (1) catalysts—events that directly facilitate project work, such as clear goals and autonomy—and (2) nourishers—interpersonal events that uplift workers, including encouragement and demonstrations of respect and collegiality. Brimming with honest examples from the companies studied, The Progress Principle equips aspiring and seasoned leaders alike with the insights they need to maximize their people’s performance.

This field is opening new avenues in our understanding of metabolism and endocrinology. A panel of the most distinguished investigators in the field gathered together to discuss the present state and the future of the field. The editors trust that this volume will be of use to those colleagues who will be picking up the challenge to unravel how the circadian clock can be targeted for the future development of specific pharmacological strategies toward a number of pathologies.

Book excerpt: Thanks to a series of recent US Supreme Court decisions, corporations can now spend unlimited sums to influence elections, Super PACs and dark money groups are flourishing, and wealthy individuals and special interests increasingly dominate American politics. Despite the overwhelming support of Americans to fix this broken system, serious efforts at reform have languished. Campaign finance is a highly intricate and complex area of the law, and the current system favors the incumbent politicians who oversee it. This illuminating book takes these hard realities as a starting point and offers realistic solutions to reform campaign finance. With contributions from more than a dozen leading scholars of election law, it should be read by anyone interested in reclaiming the promise of American democracy.

Book Daylight Design of Buildings

Download or read book Daylight Design of Buildings written by Nick Baker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-01-02 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To complement the critical and objective view gleaned from the study of some sixty buildings, this design manual has been developed to provide a more synthetic approach to the principles which lie behind successful daylight design. These principles are illustrated with examples drawn from the case study buildings. The emphasis throughout has been on practical methods to improve design, rather than techniques studied for any intrinsic interest. The book provides the necessary tools to assist the designer to provide well daylit interiors, and shows that good daylight design is not a restriction on architectural expression but, on the contrary, acts as an inspiration and foundation for good architecture.

It proposes enlightening similarities between, for instance, maneuvering in limited war and in a traffic jam; deterring the Russians and one’s own children; the modern strategy of terror and the ancient institution of hostages.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When my generation grew up, we were never limited by the sky or the stars. Man had already begun to probe its mysteries. Our mothers and fathers before us had created methods, maps, and ships that would forever change their planet and the way their children would view the world. So, when our small new-media company was offered the opportunity to work with John Strand and Pathways to the Planets, we all knew that it was a chance of a lifetime to work with someone who was instrumental in helping man reach that small rock in space called the moon. We live in the new world created by those brave pioneers and today are posed new frontiers; nano-science, cyberspace, molecular medicine, etc... All afforded to us humans, at least in part, by the extraordinary people portrayed in this book. Pathways to the Planets is a unique insight into the lives of those individuals as told through the memoirs of Astrophysicist John Strand. I personally, found this book to be an affirmation for anyone who seeks adventure and welcomes challenge and certainly a must read for those who were there (on earth!) during that exciting time. What a journey producing this book has been!
