Book excerpt: The report describes the single-frequency output of the dye laser and a description is given of a spectroscopic method for measurement of the dimer equilibrium constant in Rhodamine-detergemt solutions. A rough comparison of Rhodamine 6G and a new dye of the Rhodamine family and effects encountered in ethanolic solution is discussed and the application of the laser to line-narrowing experiments on Nd in glass and POCl3 is described. A general treatment of the molecular anisotropy effects as they may influence the working of a dye laser is presented. An Appendix (by R. Walters) describes the synthesis of a xanthene dye used for comparison with Rhodamine 6G. (Modified author abstract).

Book Physics of New Laser Sources

Download or read book Physics of New Laser Sources written by Neal B. Abraham and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the lectures and seminars presented at the NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Physics of New Laser Sources", the twelfth course of the Europhysics School of Quantum Electronics, held under the supervision of the Quantum Electronics Division of the European Physical Society. The Institute was held at Centro "I Cappuccini" San Miniato, Tuscany, July 11-21, 1984. The Europhysics School of Quantum Electronics was started in 1970 with the aim of providing instruction for young researchers and advanced students already engaged in the area of quantum electronics or for those wishing to switch into this area after working previously in other areas. From the outset, the School has been under the direction of Prof. F. T. Arecchi, then at the University of Pavia, now at the University of Florence, and Dr. D. Roess of Heraeus, Hanau. In 1981, Prof. H. Walther, University of Munich and Max-Planck Institut fur Quantenoptik joined as co-director. Each year the Directors choose a subj~ct of particular interest, alternating fundamental topics with technological ones, and ask colleagues specifically competent in the chosen areas to take the scientific responsibility for that course.

Book Frontiers of Laser Spectroscopy of Gases

Download or read book Frontiers of Laser Spectroscopy of Gases written by A.C.P. Alves and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the lectures presented at the NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Frontiers of Laser Spectroscopy of Gases" held in the Hotel Golf Mar, Vimeiro, near Torres Vedras, Portugal from 30 March to 10 April 1987. The objective of the meeting was to take stock of the recent technological developments involving lasers and to assess their impact on spectroscopy. The whole range of wavelengths from the far infrared through to the extreme ultraviolet was covered. In addition, specific applications to both atoms and molecules were described. Indeed, one of the most successful and pleasant aspects of the Institute was the joint participation of atomic physicists and molecular spectro scopists, who meet all too rarely these days. The Institute also succeeded in covering a wide time span from the very earliest days of lasers to some of the very latest developments in both lasers and their applications to spectroscopy. There were 14 invited lecturers, giving a total of 40 lectures, and 89 other participants at the Institute. Each of the invited lecturers has contributed a chapter to this volume. In addition, on Thursday 2nd April a special one-day session was held in the Chemistry Department at the University of Coimbra to mark the retirement of Professor Dr. F.

In addition to describing the fundamental theories of resonators such as geometrical optics, diffraction, and polarisation the characteristics of all important resonator schemes and their calculation are presented. Experimental examples, practical problems and a collection of measurement techniques support the comprehensive treatment of the subject. Optical Resonators is the only book currently available that provides a comprehensive overview of the the subject. Combined with the structure of the text and the autonomous nature of the chapters this work will be as suitable for those new to the field as it will be invaluable to specialists conducting research.

Book Laser Spectroscopy

  • Author : Richard Brewer
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1461345170
  • Pages : 647 pages

Download or read book Laser Spectroscopy written by Richard Brewer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Laser Spectroscopy Conference held at Vail, Colorado, June 25-29, 1973 was in certain ways the first meeting of its kind. Var ious quantum electronics conferences in the past have covered non linear optics, coherence theory, lasers and masers, breakdown, light scattering and so on. However, at Vail only two major themes were developed - tunable laser sources and the use of lasers in spectro scopic measurements, especially those involving high precision. Even so, Laser Spectroscopy covers a broad range of topics, making possible entirely new investigations and in older ones orders of magnitude improvement in resolution. The conference was interdisciplinary and international in char acter with scientists representing Japan, Italy, West Germany, Canada, Israel, France, England, and the United States. Of the 150 participants, the majority were physicists and electrical engineers in quantum electronics and the remainder, physical chemists and astrophysicists. We regret, because of space limitations, about 100 requests to attend had to be refused.
