Chase and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A moving base pilot-in-the-loop simulator study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of direct lift control systems in improving the mission effectiveness of two types of aircraft. The missions considered were in-flight refueling, terrain following, and landing. The aircraft considered were the C-5A heavy cargo plane and the F-104 fighter-bomber. (Author).

Book Direct Lift Control as a Landing Approach Aid in the F 8c Airplane simulator and Flight Tests

Download or read book Direct Lift Control as a Landing Approach Aid in the F 8c Airplane simulator and Flight Tests written by J. D. Etheridge and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The direct lift control system varied the droop of the aileron as a flap through a control knob on the stick. This system provided a more rapid means of changing altitude than normal longitudinal control. Direct lift control was found to be superior to normal longitudinal control for maintaining a precise glide path. (Author).

Book Analog Simulation of Automatic Glide Slope Control Using Wing Lift Spoilers as Direct Lift Control

Download or read book Analog Simulation of Automatic Glide Slope Control Using Wing Lift Spoilers as Direct Lift Control written by and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of wing lift spoilers as a means of changing lift without changing angle of attack was studied for use in the landing approach task. The vehicle used was the F-8 type fighter. Automatic glide slope controllers were proposed using an elevator glide slope coupler in conjunction with an automatic power compensator for comparison with an automatic direct lift control system. The system gains were optimized for gust disturbances and initial offsets from glide slope. An analog computer simulation program including a manual control phase was used to determine arbitrary measures of effectiveness of the proposed systems. (Author).

Book DIRECT LIFT CONTROL FOR THE LAMS B 52

Download or read book DIRECT LIFT CONTROL FOR THE LAMS B 52 written by Gary L. Nelsen and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A DLC (Direct Lift Control) system was designed for the LAMS B-52 test aircraft using optimization theory. Spoilers, symmetric ailerons, and elevator respond to normal longitudinal column movements, achieving incremental rates of climb up to 500 fpm from trim without pitching the aircraft. DLC reduces normal acceleration 50%, both in and out of turbulence, and improves airspeed control in precision maneuvering tasks: Approach and landing, in-flight refueling, and terrain following. The closed-loop DLC controller, consisting of fixed-gain normal acceleration, pitch angle, and pitch rate feedbacks to the three control surface servos, was demonstrated by a piloted six degree of freedom analog simulation. Book A Study of Direct Lift Control to Improve Maneuverability in the Transonic Region

Download or read book A Study of Direct Lift Control to Improve Maneuverability in the Transonic Region written by John B. McDonald and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current fighter aircraft have shown undesirable properties of dynamic maneuverability in the transonic region. A direct lift control system was designed to decrease pitch rate overshoot, eliminate normal acceleration reversal, and speed lift build up. The system used leading edge slats as the direct lift device due to the availability of transonic flight test data from a McDonnell-Douglas project. The slats had significant steady state benefits, as well as providing a suitable direct lift surface. The closed loop system was designed around a fly-by-wire primary flight control system, and used a linear blend of pitch rate and pilot acceleration feedback. This permitted investigation of handling qualities criteria in the manner of the newly proposed criterion. Digital computer solution provided extensive root locus analysis to determine stability and set optimum gains. The results were verified by a three-degree-of-freedom analog simulation. The problem was evaluated at five flight conditions covering a wide range of dynamic pressures. It was found that direct lift control gave significant transient improvement in load factor build up, reduced pitch rate overshoot, and permitted precise tracking capability in the transonic region. Book Simulator Study of the Instrument Landing Approach of a Heavy Subsonic Jet Transport with an External flow Jet flap System Used for Additional Lift

Download or read book Simulator Study of the Instrument Landing Approach of a Heavy Subsonic Jet Transport with an External flow Jet flap System Used for Additional Lift written by William D. Grantham and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results indicated that no unusual piloting techniques were required to fly the landing approach on the simulated external-flow jet-flap airplane. However, a lateral-directional augmentation system was required and an autospeed control system was very beneficial. With the stability augmentation and autospeed control systems incorporated the average pilot rating assigned to the flying qualities of the simulated jet-flap configuration was 3 to 39. In addition, the results indicated that the use of spoilers or thrust modulation for direct lift control (DLC), in combination with autospeed control, was an effective system for tracking the glide slope, and both DLC systems were preferred over use of the elevator.
