This book was released on 1994 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frank Benson's masterpiece paintings of turn-of-the-century American society, New England's ports and country, and wildlife and sporting subjects, are among the most popular American works of art. His sparkling plein air painting of young women in white dresses are widely reproduced and his etchings and sporting paintings are generally considered to be some of America's best. This first full-scale monograph on Benson's entire career, summarizes his progress from his early promise as a young art student at the Academie Julian in Paris to his leading role as a teacher, portraitist, and painter in Boston and New England. Benson is particularly acclaimed for his splendid outdoor, sun-dappled portraits of members of his family, often in settings on the Maine coastline, as well as for his later, archetypal works of wildfowl, fishing, and hunting.

Download or read book The Sporting Art of Frank W Benson written by Faith Andrews Bedford and published by David R. Godine Publisher. This book was released on 2000 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frank Benson, a pivotal artist of the American Impressionist movement had three great loves in his long and productive life: his family, his art, and the sporting life. As a boy, Benson dreamed of being an ornithological illustrator. In mid-life, after an extremely successful career as a portraitist, he returned to the wildfowl and sporting subjects that were his lifelong passion. Over the next forty years, in etching, lithography, watercolor, and oil and wash, he portrayed birds beloved since childhood, scenes of his hunting and fishing expeditions, and still lives of incomparable delicacy. Whether painting a hunter setting out decoys, a wash of geese by moonlight, a watercolor of a companion poised to gaff a salmon, or an etching of a group of ducks silently gliding in for a landing, Benson conveyed the joy and beauty of a sportsman's life.

Book excerpt: An up-to-date, integrated analysis of the language disturbances associated with brain pathology, this book examines the different types of aphasia combining two clinical approaches: the neurological and the neuropsychological. Although they stress the clinical aspects of aphasia syndromes, they also review assessment techniques, linguistic analyses, problems of aphasia classification, and frequently occurring related disorders such as alexia, agraphia, alcalculia, and anomia. In addition, they examine commonly encountered speech disorders, neurobehavioral and psychiatric problems commonly associated with aphasia, and the language characteristics of aging and dementia. Rehabilitation and recovery are discussed, and a neural basis for aphasia and related problems is proposed. Neuropsychologists, neurologists, speech therapists, psychiatrists, and occupational therapists will find this book invaluable when dealing with language disorders resulting from brain disease or injury.

Book Art in the Age of the Internet

Download or read book Art in the Age of the Internet written by Eva Respini and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Art in the Age of the Internet, 1989 to Today is the first major thematic group exhibition in the United States to examine the radical impact of internet culture on visual art. Featuring 60 artists, collaborations, and collectives, the exhibition is comprised of over 70 works across a variety of mediums, including painting, performance, photography, sculpture, video, web-based projects, and virtual reality. The exhibition is divided into five sections that explore themes such as emergent ideas of the body and notions of human enhancement; the internet as a site of both surveillance and resistance; the circulation and control of images and information; the possibilities for exploring identity and community afforded by virtual domains; and new economies of visibility accelerated by social media. Throughout, the work in the exhibition addresses the internet-age democratization of culture that comprises our current moment. The earliest work in the exhibition is from 1989, the year that Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web. This development, and others that followed in quick succession, modernized the internet, and in the process radically changed our way of life--from how we access and generate information, make friends and share experiences, to how we imagine our future bodies and how nations police national security. 1989 also marked a watershed moment across the globe, with significant shifts in politics, geographies, and economies. Events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall and protests in Tiananmen Square signaled the beginning of our current globalized age, which cannot be imagined without the internet.

Book The Neurology of Thinking

Download or read book The Neurology of Thinking written by David Frank Benson and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an innovative study of cognition from a clinical point of view. From observations of patients' behavior, it illustrates and analyzes the disorders of the thinking process caused by focal brain damage or more widespread cerebral dysfunction. The disorders are organized in functional categories and integrated in the effort to outline a neural basis for thought processing. The author takes a broad view of this subject, ranging from sensory input to executive control of cognition and motor output. He uses striking clinical vignettes throughout the book to illustrate the various disorders, and discusses the case histories with respect to relevant literature. This detailed work provides an illuminating account of the neurological basis for components of thinking such as language, memory, visual imagery, and emotion. It will interest all who are concerned with the relation between brain and behavior, including neurologists, neuroscientists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and cognitive scientists.

Download or read book American Impressionists written by Susan Behrends Frank and published by Rizzoli International Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Luminous works by Childe Hassam, Ernest Lawson, Maurice Prendergast, John Henry Twachtman, are among the 100 seminal works featured in this book showcasing 27 artists. As members of the first generation of American painters to absorb the technique, brighter palette, and subject matter of Impressionism from their French counterparts, these artists transformed the heroic American landscape into a modern idiom, in atmospheric park and beach scenes, urban views, and charming interiors, with particular interest in optical effects, light, and the seasons. This book provides a vivid summary of the movement, starting with its roots in earlier American art and its relationship to French Impressionism. It charts the response of many of these American artists to one of the most beloved movements in 19th century painting. All of the masterworks are here, in full color, from Hassam's sun-drenced gardens to Twachtman's snowy landscapes. It is a celebration of the Impressionist style and it's fresh interpretatiuon of America's landscapes
