Book A Classical Response to Relational Theism

Download or read book A Classical Response to Relational Theism written by Brian J. Orr and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-02-17 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classical doctrine of God expresses that the God of the Bible is triune, a se, simple, immutable, impassible, eternal, and the sovereign Lord over his creation, which he created from himself. Modern streams of theology, within the evangelical circle, continue to promote a doctrine of God that sharply contrasts the classical view--the traditional view of God in Christian theism. Therefore, a critical response to such a theology is needed. This study is a comprehensive analysis and sustained critique of Thomas Jay Oord's open/relational doctrine of God. Oord's model substitutes process metaphysics for classical metaphysics, while attempting to retain foundational Christian doctrines that were established within a classical metaphysical framework.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mission of the Church is to introduce the person of Christ to individual human beings who by faith enter into communion with God. This does not involve adapting information to a particular context, but rather establishing the context prescribed by God for the presence of Christ wherever we happen to be among the peoples of the world. Contextualization, then, creates a new invitational core context which is host to the presence of the divine person. This is defined with the help of the gifts of ecclesial Tradition, which enables conditions that facilitate communion, and which thus helps us engage the world.

Book Natural Philosophy Epitomised Books 8 11 of Gregor Reisch s Philosophical pearl 1503

Download or read book Natural Philosophy Epitomised Books 8 11 of Gregor Reisch s Philosophical pearl 1503 written by Sachiko Kusukawa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gregor Reisch's The Philosophical pearl (Margarita Philosophica), first published in 1503 and republished 11 times in the sixteenth century, was the first extensive printed text which discussed the disciplines taught at university to achieve widespread dissemination. This distinguishes it from printed editions of individual texts of Aristotle and other authorities. It is presented as a dialogue between master and pupil, covering the seven liberal arts, natural philosophy and moral philosophy, and with illustrations throughout. It has received remarkably little attention in its own right as a work of education which helped shape the world view of sixteenth-century educated men. Its author was a Carthusian monk. This volume presents an edited translation and an extensive introduction, of the four books which deal with natural philosophy - the predecessor of modern science. These books clearly show the extent to which for Reisch the study of nature was still primarily undertaken for Christian ends. Not only was nature studied as God's creation, but the study of the soul (a central part of natural philosophy pursued on Aristotelian lines) and its fate was here completely integrated with the salvation or damnation of the individual Christian, as taught in the Bible and by the church fathers, especially Augustine. Natural philosophy for Reisch was a discipline which was as concerned with God and the Bible as it was with Nature and Aristotle.

Book The Fathers of the Church in Christian Theology

Download or read book The Fathers of the Church in Christian Theology written by Fedou and published by Catholic University of America Press. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of The Fathers of the Church in Christian Theology is to argue that Patristic studies still has much to contribute to theological reflections in our time. Throughout history, the reading of the Fathers of the Church has made major contributions to Christian thinking. This fecundity was notably verified in the 20th century through the work of theologians like Henri de Lubac and Hans Urs von Balthasar. It was as well manifested broadly in the life of the church that, with the Vatican II council, drew from the patristic tradition a source of inspiration for its own renewal. However, even though the research and work on early Christianity has experienced considerable growth for several decades, Christian theology is today confronted with new questions. Thus, what status to recognize in the exegesis of the Fathers? Has not the distance from the heritage of patristic thinking been widened? More radically, do not the demands of contextual theologies on diverse continents compel a distancing away from some traditions that formerly were principally limited to Mediterranean and European regions? If these questions must be taken into account, they, nevertheless, cannot dispense with Christian theology being, today as yesterday, inspired and made fecund by the writings of the Fathers. Michel Fédou attempts to shed light on what, in our own era, justifies the necessity of a patristic theology. He shows how the reading of the Fathers contributes to the understanding of the faith in the different fields of Christian thinking. It highlights the importance of their writings for the spiritual life and the valuable nourishment that they thus offer to our times.

Book Fullness Received and Returned

Download or read book Fullness Received and Returned written by Seng-Kong Tan and published by Augsburg Fortress Publishers. This book was released on 2014 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seng-Kong Tan argues that human participation in the divinea classical theological axiom most notably associated with the Eastern Orthodox traditionis a central theme in the theology of Jonathan Edwards. This notion, Tan contends, is a defining motif for the entire systematic sweep of Edwardss theology, and it serves to focus and determine the contours of Edwards's thought. Fullness Received and Returned situates Edwards's theology within the folds of the classical theological tradition, while arguing that Edwards's is a unique and creative form of Reformed theology.

Book Evangelical Bible Doctrine

Download or read book Evangelical Bible Doctrine written by Dr. Keith Sherlin and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-12-10 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over twenty-one faithful evangelical Bible teachers have joined together in this work to both honor the legacy of Dr. Mal Couch as well as to promote a solid, sacred, and safe theological manual for the body of Christ. Colleagues and friends of Dr. Couch, such as Dr. Wayne House, Dr. Norman Geisler, Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Dr. Timothy Demy, and more, along with many of Mals students and disciples, set forth in this work a biblical and practical theology. The first half of the book covers all twelve of the major biblical doctrines of Christianity. The last half covers some of the hottest theological topics and practical issues that present-day believers ought to be aware of in order to properly defend the faith. In chapter 25 you will meet many of the disciples in Christ that Mal taught over the years as they express their gratitude for this godly giant of the faith. So if you are curious about what a holistic evangelical faith looks like, and even curious as to how dispensationalism fits within orthodox evangelicalism, this book will provide for you a solid resource for many years to come.

Download or read book The One Who Is written by Dr. Kenny Rhodes and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-02-27 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive and concise treatment of the philosophical, theological and biblical issues related to the doctrine of God. Within its pages the nature, existence, and tri-unity of God are presented in an understandable and clear manner. The authors objective was to hold in highest regard the text of Holy Scripture while reflecting the biblical position of the historic orthodox faith. The books tone is polemic and passionate, sincere and scholarly with a commitment to communicate the truth of Gods Word with simplicity and profundity. Also, between its covers, you will find a wealth of information with numerous references and explanatory notes for clarification and further personal study. The book is arranged around the concept of the term logos which suffixes many other words and turns them into fields of study, as in the phrase theology (Theos-logos). The term Logos refers to the concepts of epistemology, ontology, and hermeneutics. Applied to the doctrine of God, its organization deals with Knowing God, the Being of God, and Communicating God. This corresponds to Thomas Aquinass approach to understanding God, in the questions: what is God (we define God by negation, what He is not); how do we know God (we know him by His effects); how do you communicate or explain God (God is communicated to us by His names, that is, His attributes). The book, furthermore, presents a classic and newly reworked argument for the existence of God called the Existential Argument, which is based on the notion of being.

In this volume leading scholars in ethics, theology, and social science sum up three years of study and conversation regarding the value of interdisciplinary theological inquiry.
