Book Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson in Tau Lepton Final States

Download or read book Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson in Tau Lepton Final States written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson in final states with an electron or muon and a hadronically decaying tau lepton in association with zero, one, or two or more jets using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 7.3 fb−1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The analysis is sensitive to Higgs boson production via gluon gluon fusion, associated vector boson production, and vector boson fusion, and to Higgs boson decays to tau lepton pairs or W boson pairs. Observed (expected) limits are set on the ratio of 95% C.L. upper limits on the cross section times branching ratio, relative to those predicted by the Standard Model, of 14 (22) at a Higgs boson mass of 115 GeV and 7.7 (6.8) at 165 GeV.

This book was released on 2014 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for the standard model Higgs boson (H) decaying to b b-bar when produced in association with a weak vector boson (V) is reported for the following channels: W(mu nu)H, W(e nu)H, W(tau nu)H, Z(mu mu)H, Z(e e)H, and Z(nu nu)H. The search is performed in data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 5.1 inverse femtobarns at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and up to 18.9 inverse femtobarns at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. An excess of events is observed above the expected background with a local significance of 2.1 standard deviations for a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV, consistent with the expectation from the production of the standard model Higgs boson. The signal strength corresponding to this excess, relative to that of the standard model Higgs boson, is 1.0 +/- 0.5./abstract

Book Evidence for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Decaying to One Semi hadronically Decaying Tau and One Leptonically Decaying Tau at ATLAS

Download or read book Evidence for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Decaying to One Semi hadronically Decaying Tau and One Leptonically Decaying Tau at ATLAS written by Michel Trottier-McDonald and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports the search for the Higgs boson decaying to a pair of tau leptons, where one tau decays leptonically and the other decays semi-hadronically. The search was conducted by the ATLAS experiment on the proton-proton collisions supplied by the LHC in 2012. It is complicated by background from a mix of known processes from the Standard Model of Particle Physics. It makes use of boosted decision trees to separate the Higgs signal from the background. The gluon-gluon fusion and the vector boson fusion production mechanisms are searched for separately. The statistical significance of the excess observed over the background-only hypothesis is 3.3 standard deviations, and reaches 4.1 standard deviations when combined with other ditau channels. The observed signal appears fully compatible with the Higgs boson of the Standard Model.

Book A Search for the Higgs Boson Produced in Association With a Vector Boson Using the ATLAS Detector at the LHC

Download or read book A Search for the Higgs Boson Produced in Association With a Vector Boson Using the ATLAS Detector at the LHC written by Kevin Mercurio and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation presents two searches for the Standard Model Higgs boson produced in association with a vector boson and decaying via $H\to b\bar{b}$. Specifically, the processes are: \llbb\ alone, and again in combination with the \vvbb\ and \lvbb\ processes. The dataset used for the analysis consists of 4.7 fb$ {-1}$ at $\sqrt{s} = $7~TeV and 20.3 fb$ {-1}$at $\sqrt{s} = $8~TeV from LHC collisions. The search was optimized without bias to a particular mass of the Standard Model Higgs boson.

A data sample comprising of 5.0 fb[superscript -1] and 19.0 fb[superscript -1] from the 2011 and 2012 proton collision running periods at a center of mass of 7 and 8TeV, respectively, has been analyzed and 95% C.L. upper limits derived for Higgs masses of 110-135 GeV. vi

Book A Search for Higgs Boson Production Via Vector Boson Fusion in Association with a Photon in the H Rarr B B Channel with the Atlas Detector

Download or read book A Search for Higgs Boson Production Via Vector Boson Fusion in Association with a Photon in the H Rarr B B Channel with the Atlas Detector written by Peyton Wells Rose and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for the Standard Model Higgs boson produced via vector boson fusion in association with a photon and decaying to a bottom quark-antiquark pair has been conducted using 12.6 fb--1 of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy [sqrt] s =13TeV at the LHC in 2015 and 2016. The search benefits from a large reduction of the non-resonant multijet background relative to similar searches that do not explicitly require a photon and from efficient triggering aided by the presence of the photon. Multivariate techniques trained using simulated Monte Carlo samples are used to enhance the sensitivity of the analysis by constructing regions of phase space with higher expected signal fractions relative to the background. Data-driven techniques are used in those regions to provide a reliable estimate of the di-b-jet invariant mass spectrum of the non-resonant background. The final statistical analysis of the data relies on a profile likelihood fit to the di-b-jet invariant mass distribution, searching for a signal bump in an otherwise smoothly falling distribution. There is no observed excess above the background-only expectation, and the observed (expected) 95% confidence level upper limit on the production cross section times branching ratio for a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV is 4.0 (6.0+2.3--1.7) times the Standard Model expectation. The observed signal strength is --3.9 +2.8--2.7 times the Standard Model value. This analysis is also sensitive to Z + gamma production: the observed (expected) upper limit is 2.0 (1.8+0.7-0.5) times the Standard Model expectation with an observed signal strength of 0.3+/-0.8.

Book A Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Produced in Association with a W Boson

Download or read book A Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Produced in Association with a W Boson written by Martin J. Frank and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a search for a standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a W boson using data collected with the CDF II detector from proton/antiproton collisions at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The search is performed in the WH channel where the W boson decays leptonically and the Higgs boson decays to a bottom/antibottom quark pair. The two quarks usually fragment into two jets, but sometimes a third jet can be produced via gluon radiation, so we have increased the standard two-jet sample by including events that contain three jets. We reconstruct the Higgs boson using two or three jets depending on the kinematics of the event. We find an improvement in our search sensitivity using the larger sample together with this multijet reconstruction technique. Our data show no evidence of a Higgs boson, so we set 95% confidence level upper limits on the WH production rate. We set limits between 3.36 and 28.7 times the standard model prediction for Higgs boson masses ranging from 100 to 150 GeV/c^2.

Book Search of the Higgs Boson Produced Through Vector Boson Fusion Decaying to a Pair of Bb with the ATLAS Detector

Download or read book Search of the Higgs Boson Produced Through Vector Boson Fusion Decaying to a Pair of Bb with the ATLAS Detector written by Zihao Jiang and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents the search of the Higgs boson produced by Vector Boson Fusion (VBF) and decaying to bottom quarks. A search using the ATLAS detector was performed with 2016 proton-proton collision data. The multi-variate analysis measured the signal strengths of both the inclusive Higgs production and the vector-boson fusion production relative to the Standard Model prediction. This analysis led to the observation of Higgs coupling to b-quarks in the summer of 2018. Furthermore, potential improvements of the analysis techniques using complex neural networks are investigated. In order to understand better the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) backgrounds of the Higgs search, the characteristic variables of the gluon splitting vertex are measured.

Book Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Produced Through Vector Boson Fusion and Decaying to mathrm b bar b

Download or read book Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Produced Through Vector Boson Fusion and Decaying to mathrm b bar b written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A first search is reported for a standard model Higgs boson (H) that is produced through vector boson fusion and decays to a bottom-quark pair. Two data samples, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 19.8 fb-1 and 18.3 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at [arrow]"=8 TeV were selected for this channel at the CERN LHC. The observed significance in these data samples for a H2!\mathrm{b\bar{b}}$ signal at a mass of 125 GeV is 2.2 standard deviations, while the expected significance is 0.8 standard deviations. The fitted signal strength [mu]=[sigma]/[sigma]SM=2.8+1.6-1.4. The combination of this result with other CMS searches for the Higgs boson decaying to a b-quark pair yields a signal strength of 1.0"0.4, corresponding to a signal significance of 2.6 standard deviations for a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV.

Book Search for the Standard Model Higgs boson produced in association with a pair of top quarks and decaying into a bb pair in the single lepton channel at s

Download or read book Search for the Standard Model Higgs boson produced in association with a pair of top quarks and decaying into a bb pair in the single lepton channel at s written by Matteo Mantoani and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a search for Standard Model Higgs boson produced in association with top quark pairs, ttH. The analysis uses 13.2 fb-1 of pp collision data at √s = 13 TeV collected in 2015 and 2016 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The considered decay mode for the Higgs boson is H->bb and the single lepton decay channel (electron or muon) for the tt pair. The sensitivity of this channel is improved by an event categorisation according to the jet multiplicity and the number of jets containing a b-hadron decay. Multivariate techniques are used to distinguish the signa...

Book Search for the Higgs Boson in Lepton Tau and Jets Final States

Download or read book Search for the Higgs Boson in Lepton Tau and Jets Final States written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson in final states with an electron or muon and a hadronically decaying tau lepton in association with two or more jets using 9.7 fb-1 of Run II Fermilab Tevatron Collider data collected with the D0 detector. The analysis is sensitive to Higgs boson production via gluon fusion, associated vector boson production, and vector boson fusion, followed by the Higgs boson decay to tau lepton pairs or to W boson pairs. The ratios of 95% C.L. upper limits on the cross section times branching ratio to those predicted by the standard model are obtained for orthogonal subsamples that are enriched in either H → [tau] [tau] decays or H → WW decays, and for the combination of these subsample limits. The observed and expected limit ratios for the combined subsamples at a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV are 11.3 and 9.0 respectively.
