Book Search for Supersymmetry in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are reported from a search for supersymmetric particles in proton-proton collisions in the final state with a single, high transverse momentum lepton; multiple jets, including at least one b-tagged jet; and large missing transverse momentum. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 inverse-femtobarns at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search focuses on processes leading to high jet multiplicities, such as gluino pair production with gluinos to t-tbar neutralino[1]. The quantity M[J], defined as the sum of the masses of the large-radius jets in the event, is used in conjunction with other kinematic variables to provide discrimination between signal and background and as a key part of the background estimation method. The observed event yields in the signal regions in data are consistent with those expected for standard model backgrounds, estimated from control regions in data. Exclusion limits are obtained for a simplified model corresponding to gluino pair production with three-body decays into top quarks and neutralinos. Gluinos with a mass below 1600 GeV are excluded at a 95% confidence level for scenarios with low neutralino[1] mass, and neutralinos with a mass below 800 GeV are excluded for a gluino mass of about 1300 GeV. For models with two-body gluino decays producing on-shell top squarks, the excluded region is only weakly sensitive to the top squark mass.

Book Search for Supersymmetry with Photons in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry with Photons in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two searches for physics beyond the standard model in events containing photons are presented. Our data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV, collected with the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The analyses pursue different inclusive search strategies. One analysis requires at least one photon, at least two jets, and a large amount of transverse momentum imbalance, while the other selects events with at least two photons and at least one jet, and uses the razor variables to search for signal events. The background expected from standard model processes is evaluated mainly from data. These results are interpreted in the context of general gauge-mediated supersymmetry, with the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle either a bino- or wino-like neutralino, and within simplified model scenarios. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level are obtained for cross sections as functions of the masses of the intermediate supersymmetric particles.

Book Search for Supersymmetry in the All hadronic Final State Using Top Quark Tagging in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in the All hadronic Final State Using Top Quark Tagging in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search is presented for supersymmetry in all-hadronic events with missing transverse momentum based on tagging of top quarks. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Search regions are defined using the properties of reconstructed jets, the presence of bottom and top quark candidates, and an imbalance in transverse momentum. With no statistically significant excess of events observed beyond the expected contributions from the standard model, we set exclusion limits at 95% confidence level on the masses of new particles in the context of simplified models of direct and gluino-mediated top squark production. For direct top squark production with decays to a top quark and a neutralino, top squark masses up to 740 GeV and neutralino masses up to 240 GeV are excluded. Gluino masses up to 1550 GeV and neutralino masses up to 900 GeV are excluded for models of gluino pair production where each gluino decays to a top-antitop quark pair and a neutralino.

This book was released on 2013 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miss We present a search for supersymmetry in events with large ET, no leptons, at least three jets, and one or more b-quark jets. We use a data sample corre[SQUARE ROOT] sponding to 4.98 fb[-]1 of proton-proton collisions at s = 7 TeV collected by the CMS experiment in 2011. The primary sources of standard model background are evaluated using data-driven techniques. We find good agreement between the data and the sum of the background predictions. The results are used to constrain the cross sections for the production of b-quark-enriched final states in the context of supersymmetric models.

Book Search for Squarks and Gluinos in Final States with Jets and Missing Transverse Momentum Using 36 Fb minus 1 of square Root s

Download or read book Search for Squarks and Gluinos in Final States with Jets and Missing Transverse Momentum Using 36 Fb minus 1 of square Root s written by ATLAS Collaboration CERN and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: A search for the supersymmetric partners of quarks and gluons (squarks and gluinos) in final states containing hadronic jets and missing transverse momentum, but no electrons or muons, is presented. The data used in this search were recorded in 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS experiment in √s=13 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb−1. The results are interpreted in the context of various models where squarks and gluinos are pair produced and the neutralino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. An exclusion limit at the 95% confidence level on the mass of the gluino is set at 2.03 TeV for a simplified model incorporating only a gluino and the lightest neutralino, assuming the lightest neutralino is massless. For a simplified model involving the strong production of mass-degenerate first- and second-generation squarks, squark masses below 1.55 TeV are excluded if the lightest neutralino is massless. These limits substantially extend the region of supersymmetric parameter space previously excluded by searches with the ATLAS detector

Book Search for a Heavy Bottom like Quark in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Search for a Heavy Bottom like Quark in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for pair-produced bottom-like quarks in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV is conducted with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The decay b' to tW is considered in this search. The b' b'-bar to tW-̂ t-bar W+̂ process can be identified by the distinctive signature of trileptons and same-sign dileptons. With a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34 inverse picobarns, no excess above the standard model background predictions is observed and a b' quark with a mass between 255 and 361 GeV/c2̂ is excluded at the 95% confidence level.

Book Searches for R parity violating Supersymmetry in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Searches for R parity violating Supersymmetry in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented from searches for R-parity-violating supersymmetry in events produced in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=8 TeV at the LHC. Final states with 0, 1, 2, or multiple leptons are considered independently. The analysis is performed on data collected by the CMS experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 inverse femtobarns. No excesses of events above the standard model expectations are observed, and 95% confidence level limits are set on supersymmetric particle masses and production cross sections. The results are interpreted in models featuring R-parity-violating decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle, which in the studied scenarios can be either the gluino, a bottom squark, or a neutralino. In a gluino pair production model with baryon number violation, gluinos with a mass less than 0.98 and 1.03 TeV are excluded, by analyses in a fully hadronic and one-lepton final state, respectively. An analysis in a dilepton final state is used to exclude bottom squarks with masses less than 307 GeV in a model considering bottom squark pair production. Multilepton final states are considered in the context of either strong or electroweak production of superpartners, and are used to set limits on the masses of the lightest supersymmetric particles. These limits range from 300 to 900 GeV in models with leptonic and up to approximately 700 GeV in models with semileptonic R-parity-violating couplings.

Book Searches for New Symmetries in Pp Collisions with the Razor Kinematic Variables at mathbf sqrt s

Download or read book Searches for New Symmetries in Pp Collisions with the Razor Kinematic Variables at mathbf sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction and LHC phenomenology of the razor variables MR, an event-by-event indicator of the heavy particle mass scale, and R, a dimensionless variable related to the transverse momentum imbalance of events and missing transverse energy, are presented. The variables are used in the analysis of the first proton-proton collisions dataset at CMS (35 pb-1) in a search for superpartners of the quarks and gluons, targeting indirect hints of dark matter candidates in the context of supersymmetric theoretical frameworks. The analysis produced the highest sensitivity results for SUSY to date and extended the LHC reach far beyond the previous Tevatron results. A generalized inclusive search is subsequently presented for new heavy particle pairs produced in √s = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC using 4.7±0.1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity from the second LHC run of 2011. The selected events are analyzed in the 2D razor-space of MR and R and the analysis is performed in 12 tiers of all-hadronic, single and double leptons final states in the presence and absence of b-quarks, probing the third generation sector using the event heavy- flavor content. The search is sensitive to generic supersymmetry models with minimal assumptions about the superpartner decay chains. No excess is observed in the number or shape of event yields relative to Standard Model predictions. Exclusion limits are derived in the CMSSM framework with gluino masses up to 800 GeV and squark masses up to 1.35 TeV excluded at 95% confidence level, depending on the model parameters. The results are also interpreted for a collection of simplified models, in which gluinos are excluded with masses as large as 1.1 TeV, for small neutralino masses, and the first-two generation squarks, stops and sbottoms are excluded for masses up to about 800, 425 and 400 GeV, respectively.

Book Search for the Supersymmetric Partner of the Top Quark in Ppbar Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Search for the Supersymmetric Partner of the Top Quark in Ppbar Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a search for the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy (square root)s = 1.96 TeV. This search was conducted within the framework of the R-parity conserving minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model, assuming the stop decays dominantly to a lepton, a sneutrino, and a bottom quark. We searched for events with two oppositely-charged leptons, at least one jet, and missing transverse energy in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb−1 collected by the CDF experiment. No significant evidence of a stop quark signal was found. Exclusion limits at 95% confidence level in the stop quark versus sneutrino mass plane are set. Stop quark masses up to 180 GeV/c2 are excluded for sneutrino masses around 45 GeV/c2, and sneutrino masses up to 116 GeV/c2 are excluded for stop quark masses around 150 GeV/c2.

Book Search for Pair Production of Scalar Top Quarks Decaying to a tau Lepton and a beta Quark in 1 96 tev Pp Collisions

Download or read book Search for Pair Production of Scalar Top Quarks Decaying to a tau Lepton and a beta Quark in 1 96 tev Pp Collisions written by Vadim Gennadyevich Khotilovich and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I present the results of a search for pair production of scalar top quarks (t̃1) in an R-parity violating supersymmetric scenario using 322 pb−1 of pp collisions at [square root]s = 1.96 TeV collected by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab. I assume each t̃1 decays into a [tau] lepton and a [beta] quark, with branching ratio [beta], and search for nal states containing either an electron or a muon from a leptonic [tau] decay, a hadronically decaying [tau] lepton, and two or more jets. Two candidate events pass my nal selection criteria, consistent with the expectation from standard model processes. I present upper limits on the cross section times branching ratio squared [sigma](t̃1t̃1) X [beta]2 as a function of the stop mass (mt̃1). Assuming [beta]= 1, I set a 95% condence level limit m(t̃1)> 153 GeV=c2. These limits are also fully applicable to the case of a pair produced third generation scalar leptoquark that decays into a [tau] lepton and a [beta] quark.

Book Searches for Supersymmetric Particles in Final States with Multiple Top and Bottom Quarks with the Atlas Detector

Download or read book Searches for Supersymmetric Particles in Final States with Multiple Top and Bottom Quarks with the Atlas Detector written by Chiara Rizzi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This PhD thesis documents two of the highest-profile searches for supersymmetry performed at the ATLAS experiment using up to 80/fb of proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV delivered by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) during its Run 2 (2015-2018). The signals of interest feature a high multiplicity of jets originating from the hadronisation of b-quarks and large missing transverse momentum, which constitutes one of the most promising final state signatures for discovery of new phenomena at the LHC. The first search is focused on the strong production of a pair of gluinos, with each gluino decaying into a neutralino and a top-antitop-quark pair or a bottom-antibottom-quark pair. The second search targets the pair production of higgsinos, with each higgsino decaying into a gravitino and a Higgs boson, which in turn is required to decay into a bottom-antibottom-quark pair. Both searches employ state-of-the-art experimental techniques and analysis strategies at the LHC, resulting in some of the most restrictive bounds available to date on the masses of the gluino, neutralino, and higgsino in the context of the models explored.

Book Search for a Vectorlike Quark with Charge 2 3 in T Z Events from Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Search for a Vectorlike Quark with Charge 2 3 in T Z Events from Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for pair-produced heavy vector-like charge-2/3 quarks, T, in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, is performed with the CMS detector at the LHC. Events consistent with the flavor-changing-neutral-current decay of a T quark to a top quark and a Z boson are selected by requiring two leptons from the Z-boson decay, as well as an additional isolated charged lepton. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.14 inverse femtobarns, the number of observed events is found to be consistent with the standard model background prediction. Assuming a branching fraction of 100% for the decay T to tZ, a T quark with a mass less than 475 GeV/c2̂ is excluded at the 95% confidence level.
