Download or read book The Nucleon Optical Model written by Peter Edward Hodgson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nucleon optical model is widely used to calculate the elastic scattering cross-sections and polarisations for the interaction of neutrons and protons with atomic nuclei. The optical model potentials not only describe the scattering but also provide the wave functions needed to analyse a wide range of nuclear reactions. They also unify many aspects of nuclear reactions and nuclear structure. This book consists of a comprehensive introduction to the subject and a selection of papers by the author describing the optical model in detail. It contains full references to the original literature with many examples of the application of the model to the analysis of experimental data.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The polarization and differential cross sections for neutrons scattered from Zr, Nb, Mo, and Cd were measured at five angles for neutron energies between 0.275 and 0.85 Mev. The results were analyzed in terms of a local optical model equivalent to the noniocal model of Perey. The analysis leads to the following major conclusions; the calculations, corrected for the effects of compound elastic scattering, are consistent with most of the observed scattering data, particularly when a spin-orbit potential that includes both a real and imaginary term of the Thomas type is employed; and calculations (based on this model) of the magnitude and shape of the P-wave neutron strength function in the region near A = 100 are not very sensitive to the parameters of the spin-orbit potential -- at least when the real term is between 7 and 2 Mev and the imaginary term is between 0 and 7 Mev. Book Fast neutron Scattering from Tantalum Rhenium and Platinum

Download or read book Fast neutron Scattering from Tantalum Rhenium and Platinum written by and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scattering of neutrons with energies of less than or approximately 1.5 MeV from tantalum, rhenium, and platinum was studied experimentally. Elastic and inelastic neutron-scattering angular distributions were determined at incident neutron-energy intervals of less than or approximately 20 keV throughout th range 0.3 to 1.5 MeV. Time-of-flight measurements were made concurrently at eight or more scattering angles between 25 and 155 degrees with sufficient scattered neutron-energy resolution to separate the elastic scattered component from most inelastic scattered neutron groups. Differential inelastic scattering cross sections were observed corresponding to the excitation of various states. The experimental results were compared with calculations based upon the optical model and the Hauser-Feshbach formula inclusive of corrections for resonance-width fluctuations. The experimentally observed level structure is discussed in the context of single-particle and rotational states of deformed nuclei.

Book Study of Proton induced Reactions and Correlation with Fast neutron Scattering

Download or read book Study of Proton induced Reactions and Correlation with Fast neutron Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The generation of cross sections for fast neutron-nucleon interactions obtained from elastic and charge-exchange proton data is discussed in terms of the Lane model formalism. A general description of the interaction of nucleons with nuclei is presented in terms of the optical model and the extended (or coupled-channel) optical model, together with the relation of these models to microscopic calculations of the nucleon-nucleon interaction. Comparisons between neutron elastic data and calculations carried out with optical model potentials obtained from (p, p) and (p, n) data are presented for a large number of nuclei. The validity of the Lane model and the importance of coupled effects in the actinide region are shown in a detailed comparison of calculations for elastic and inelastic neutron differential cross sections and measurements for 232Th and 238U.
