Book Water Science Technology in China A Roadmap to 2050

Download or read book Water Science Technology in China A Roadmap to 2050 written by Changming Liu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As one of the eighteen field-specific reports comprising the comprehensive scope of the strategic general report of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, this sub-report addresses long-range planning for developing science and technology in the field of water science. They each craft a roadmap for their sphere of development to 2050. In their entirety, the general and sub-group reports analyze the evolution and laws governing the development of science and technology, describe the decisive impact of science and technology on the modernization process, predict that the world is on the eve of an impending S&T revolution, and call for China to be fully prepared for this new round of S&T advancement. Based on the detailed study of the demands on S&T innovation in China's modernization, the reports draw a framework for eight basic and strategic systems of socio-economic development with the support of science and technology, work out China's S&T roadmaps for the relevant eight basic and strategic systems in line with China's reality, further detail S&T initiatives of strategic importance to China's modernization, and provide S&T decision-makers with comprehensive consultations for the development of S&T innovation consistent with China's reality. Supported by illustrations and tables of data, the reports provide researchers, government officials and entrepreneurs with guidance concerning research directions, the planning process, and investment. Founded in 1949, the Chinese Academy of Sciences is the nation's highest academic institution in natural sciences. Its major responsibilities are to conduct research in basic and technological sciences, to undertake nationwide integrated surveys on natural resources and ecological environment, to provide the country with scientific data and consultations for government's decision-making, to undertake government-assigned projects with regard to key S&T problems in the process of socio-economic development, to initiate personnel training, and to promote China's high-tech enterprises through its active engagement in these areas.

Book Role of Dams and Reservoirs in a Successful Energy Transition

Download or read book Role of Dams and Reservoirs in a Successful Energy Transition written by Robert Boes and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-08-31 with total page 1482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, new and unexpected challenges arise for Europe’s large array of existing dams, and fresh perspectives on the development of new projects for supporting Europe’s energy transition have emerged. In this context, the 12th ICOLD European Club Symposium has been held in September 2023, in Interlaken, Switzerland. The overarching Symposium theme was on the "Role of dams and reservoirs in a successful energy transition". The articles gathered in the present book of proceedings cover the various themes developed during the Symposium: - Dams and reservoirs for hydropower - Dams and reservoirs for climate change adaptation - Impact mitigation of dams and reservoirs - How to deal with ageing dams In conjunction with the Symposium, the 75th anniversary of the Swiss Committee on Dams offered an excellent opportunity to not only draw from the retrospective of Switzerland’s extensive history of dam development, but to also reveal perspectives on the new role of dams for a reliable and affordable energy transition. These aspects are illustrated by several articles covering the various activities, challenges, and concerns of the dam community.

Book Green Finance and Investment Clean Energy Finance and Investment Roadmap of Thailand

Download or read book Green Finance and Investment Clean Energy Finance and Investment Roadmap of Thailand written by OECD and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2024-06-10 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thailand has adopted ambitious clean energy targets to meet its long-term climate goals, committing to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2065. Transforming Thailand’s energy system, alongside broader development objectives, is critical to meeting these goals as the energy sector accounts for 69% of Thailand’s total GHG emissions. The Clean Energy Finance and Investment Roadmap of Thailand (“the Roadmap”) outlines key actions to unlock finance and investment in two clean energy sectors: (i) renewable power, with special attention to small-scale renewable power systems; and (ii) energy efficiency in buildings, with a focus on cooling applications. The two sectors were selected in close consultation with the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) of the Ministry of Energy of Thailand. The Roadmap provides a comprehensive overview of the progress to date, policy context and challenges to mobilise near-term finance in those sectors, as well as estimates of the finance needs to reach Thailand’s clean energy plans. The report also includes a roadmap action plan, suggesting non-prescriptive recommendations and actions that the Government of Thailand, financial institutions, energy service companies, academia and the international development community active in the country could undertake to foster clean energy investments in Thailand.

Book Integrated Water Resources Management in Latin America

Download or read book Integrated Water Resources Management in Latin America written by Asit K. Biswas and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now widely accepted that the world is likely to face a major water crisis unless the present management practices are improved very significantly. Promoted extensively by donors and international institutions over the past 15 years, integrated water resources management (IWRM) has been assumed explicitly to be "the" solution for managing the limited water resources of the world. Hundreds of millions of dollars have now been spent in promoting IWRM in developing countries. However, no serious and objective analysis has ever been undertaken as to whether IWRM has made water management more efficient and equitable in any region of the world than otherwise may have been the case. This pioneering analysis indicates that IWRM has not only been unsuccessful in Latin America, but also is highly unlikely to succeed in the future. The reasons and constraints for this failure are outlined. This book previously appeared as a special issue of the International Journal of Water Resources Development.
