Book A Road Map for Human Resources Development to Meet the Requirements of the U S Manufacturing Industry by 2005

Download or read book A Road Map for Human Resources Development to Meet the Requirements of the U S Manufacturing Industry by 2005 written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While there are many industries important to our nation, the manufacturing industries are particularly critical. Today, they are being challenged because of the growth and success of international competitors. This paper focuses on related U.S. human resource implications. It addresses several crucial work force issues: What types of industrial jobs will exist in the future? What skills and training will be required in the manufacturing sector? Will our people have the skills needed to sustain the industries that underlie our nation's economic strength? This paper begins by describing the 18 to 25 year old cohort as of 2005. We address trends in the skill levels of this group, along with an anticipated outlook of the manufacturing industry's work force requirements. Next, to show greater specificity, our research focuses on the aircraft industry. Examples and implications involving the loss of industrial international competitiveness are also included. Finally, as proof of fundamental U.S. education capabilities, we outline existing U.S. military training strategies. To remedy the human resource deficiencies noted, we propose significant revisions to our country's education system. Our intent is to insure an adequately trained U.S. work force will exist in the 21st century.--Education is the key to the continued viability and competitiveness of the U.S. manufacturing industry in a global economy.

Book The Third International Conference on the Development of Biomedical Engineering in Vietnam

Download or read book The Third International Conference on the Development of Biomedical Engineering in Vietnam written by Vo Van Toi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-03 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vietnam is a rapidly developing, socially dynamic country, where interest in biomedical engineering activities has grown considerably in recent years. The leadership of the Vietnamese government, and of research and educational institutions, are well aware of the importance of this field for the development of the country and have instituted policies to promote its development. The political, economic and social environment within the country offers unique opportunities for the international community and this conference was intended to provide a vehicle for the sharing of experiences; development of support and collaboration networks for research; and exchange of ideas on how to improve the educational and entrepreneurial environment to better address the urgent needs of Vietnam. In January 2004, under the sponsorship of the U.S. National Science Foundation, a U.S. delegation that consisted of Biomedical Engineering professors from different universities in the United States, visited several universities and research institutions in Vietnam to assess the state of development of this field. This delegation proposed a five year plan that was enthusiastically embraced by the international scientific communities to actively develop collaborations with Vietnam. Within this framework, in July 2005, the First International Conference on the Development of Biomedical Engineering in Vietnam was held in Ho Chi Minh City. From that conference a Consortium of Vietnam-International Universities was created to advise and assist the development of Biomedical Engineering in Vietnamese universities.

Book New Wave Manufacturing Strategies

Download or read book New Wave Manufacturing Strategies written by John Storey and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1994-02-28 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade, many companies have adopted new strategies for manufacturing, which have taken their competitiveness on to new planes. A whole array of initiatives, such as FMS, JIT, TQM, CIM, and MRP II, have been introduced. This book deals with the far-reaching significance of these new approaches - collectively labelled "new wave manufacturing". Considerable research evidence as well as practitioners′ own experiences make one crucial point time and time again. The organizational as well as the human resource management aspects of these new strategies are critical to their success or failure. The underlying theme which is tackled in this book, therefore, is to what extent do these new operational strategies require a matching set of organizational and HR strategies? By looking at the issues through the joint eyes of production and behavioural analysts, this book provides an unique introduction to the new developments in manufacturing as well as providing an up-to-date assessment of the organizational and H R dimensions to these methods. New Wave Manufacturing Strategies has a vision which goes beyond the "new technology"/advanced manufacturing technology discussions. The chapters have been written in a clear, accessible manner by leading experts from Europe, the USA and Australia as well as from the UK.
