Book A Retrospective Analysis of Employment Duration

Download or read book A Retrospective Analysis of Employment Duration written by Luke Ignaczak and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Popular perception holds that average employment durations have declined in recent decades. However, most studies conclude that the proportion of long-term employment relationships has remained remarkably stable over time. To shed light on this discrepancy we use distribution analysis to systematically track changes in Canadian employment durations over the second half of the 20th century. The analysis reveals that earlier cohorts were more likely to have longer employment durations than later cohorts and that there are shifts in proportions between longer and shorter work episodes with employment durations declining sharply for men and mixed results for women.

Book Time and Work Volume 1

Download or read book Time and Work Volume 1 written by Abbie J. Shipp and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-02-18 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of time is a crucial filter through which we understand any events or phenomena; nothing exists outside of time. It conditions not only the question of ‘when’, but also influences the ‘what, how and why’ of our ideas about management. And yet management scholars have rarely considered this ‘temporal lens’ in understanding how time affects employees at work, or the organizations for which they work. This 2-volume set provides a fresh, temporal perspective on some of the most important and thriving areas in management research today. Volume 1 considers how time impacts the individual, and includes chapters on identity, emotion, motivation, stress and creativity. Volume 2 considers time in context with the organization, exploring a temporal understanding of leadership, HRM, entrepreneurship, teams and cross-cultural issues. There is an overall concern with the practical implications of understanding individuals and organizations within the most relevant timeframes, while the two volumes provide an actionable research agenda for the future. This is a highly significant contribution to management theory and research, and will be important reading for all students and researchers of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Psychology, Occupational Psychology, Business and Management and HRM.

Book Guide to Good Practice in the Management of Time in Complex Projects

Download or read book Guide to Good Practice in the Management of Time in Complex Projects written by CIOB (The Chartered Institute of Building) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-11-09 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delayed completion affects IT, process plant, oil and gas, civil engineering, shipbuilding and marine work contracts. In fact it affects all industries in all countries and the bigger the project, the more damage delayed completion causes to costs, to reputation and sometimes, even to the survival of the contracting parties themselves. In simple projects, time can be managed intuitively by any reasonably competent person, but complex projects cannot and a more analytical approach is necessary if the project is to succeed. Although much has been written about how to apportion liability for delay after a project has gone wrong there was, until recently, no guidance on how to manage time pro-actively and effectively on complex projects. In 2008, the CIOB embarked upon a 5-year strategy to provide standards, education, training and accreditation in time management. The first stage, this Guide to Good Practice in Managing Time in Complex Projects, sets down the process and standards to be achieved in preparing and managing the time model. As a handbook for practitioners it uses logical step by step procedures and examples from inception and risk appraisal, through design and construction to testing and commissioning, to show how an effective and dynamic time model can be used to manage the risk of delay to completion of construction projects.

Book Time and the Work of Anthropology

Download or read book Time and the Work of Anthropology written by Johanne Fabian and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the dialogical approach, the autobiographical perspective and the central role of text-interpretation are all seen as characteristics of post-modern ethnography, arising from the daily chores of field research. The breakthrough into time and history, away from the timeless theorizing of structuralism and functionalism, is seen as inevitable when anthropology is forced to think about its own epistemology. Another current concern is taken up with reflections on the politics of representing the other. In the later essays, he opposes post-modern fashions and re-asserts the need to continue with a truly critical agenda.

Book Compendium for Early Career Researchers in Mathematics Education

Download or read book Compendium for Early Career Researchers in Mathematics Education written by Gabriele Kaiser and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-04-26 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this Open Access compendium, written by experienced researchers in mathematics education, is to serve as a resource for early career researchers in furthering their knowledge of the state of the field and disseminating their research through publishing. To accomplish this, the book is split into four sections: Empirical Methods, Important Mathematics Education Themes, Academic Writing and Academic Publishing, and a section Looking Ahead. The chapters are based on workshops that were presented in the Early Career Researcher Day at the 13th International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME-13). The combination of presentations on methodological approaches and theoretical perspectives shaping the field in mathematics education research, as well as the strong emphasis on academic writing and publishing, offered strong insight into the theoretical and empirical bases of research in mathematics education for early career researchers in this field. Based on these presentations, the book provides a state-of-the-art overview of important theories from mathematics education and the broad variety of empirical approaches currently widely used in mathematics education research. This compendium supports early career researchers in selecting adequate theoretical approaches and adopting the most appropriate methodological approaches for their own research. Furthermore, it helps early career researchers in mathematics education to avoid common pitfalls and problems while writing up their research and it provides them with an overview of the most important journals for research in mathematics education, helping them to select the right venue for publishing and disseminating their work.

Book A Democratic Enlightenment

Download or read book A Democratic Enlightenment written by Morton Schoolman and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2020-04-03 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In A Democratic Enlightenment Morton Schoolman proposes aesthetic education through film as a way to redress the political violence inflicted on difference that society constructs as its racialized, gendered, Semitic, and sexualized other. Drawing on Voltaire, Diderot, and Schiller, Schoolman reconstructs the genealogical history of what he calls the reconciliation image—a visual model of a democratic ideal of reconciliation he then theorizes through Whitman's prose and poetry and Adorno's aesthetic theory. Analyzing The Help (2011) and Gentleman's Agreement (1947), Schoolman shows how film produces a more advanced image of reconciliation than those originally created by modernist artworks. Each film depicts violence toward racial and ethnic difference while also displaying a reconciliation image that aesthetically educates the public about how the violence of constructing difference as otherness can be overcome. Mounting a democratic enlightenment, the reconciliation image in film illuminates a possible politics for challenging the rise of nationalism's violence toward differences in all their diversity.

Book The Retrospective Review 1820 1828 and the Revival of Seventeenth Century Poetry

Download or read book The Retrospective Review 1820 1828 and the Revival of Seventeenth Century Poetry written by Jane Campbell and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essay had its beginning in an investigation of changing attitudes to seventeenth-century Pre-Restoration poetry during the English Romantic period. In the course of that research, Jane Campbell discovered that a relatively little-known periodical, the Retrospective Review, which was published in London from 1820 to 1828, appeared to have played an interesting part in the rehabilitation of the poets of the earlier period. This book, then, is an attempt to outline the history of this review, to place it against its literary background, and to assess its role in the critical re-evaluation of the poets of the earlier seventeenth century—an age to which the Retrospective’s contributors and their contemporaries looked with fascination as well as with an affectionate feeling of kinship.
