Book The Praeger Handbook of Faith Based Schools in the United States K 12

Download or read book The Praeger Handbook of Faith Based Schools in the United States K 12 written by Thomas C. Hunt and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2012-08-06 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring a subject that is as important as it is divisive, this two-volume work offers the first current, definitive work on the intricacies and issues relative to America's faith-based schools. The Praeger Handbook of Faith-Based Schools in the United States, K–12 is an indispensable study at a time when American education is increasingly considered through the lenses of race, ethnicity, gender, and social class. With contributions from an impressive array of experts, the two-volume work provides a historical overview of faith-based schooling in the United States, as well as a comprehensive treatment of each current faith-based school tradition in the nation. The first volume examines three types of faith-based schools—Protestant schools, Jewish schools, and Evangelical Protestant homeschooling. The second volume focuses on Catholic, Muslim, and Orthodox schools, and addresses critical issues common to faith-based schools, among them state and federal regulation and school choice, as well as ethnic, cultural, confessional, and practical factors. Perhaps most importantly for those concerned with the questions and controversies that abound in U.S. education, the handbook grapples with outcomes of faith-based schooling and with the choices parents face as they consider educational options for their children.

Book The Routledge International Handbook of Religious Education

Download or read book The Routledge International Handbook of Religious Education written by Derek Davis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How and what to teach about religion is controversial in every country. The Routledge International Handbook of Religious Education is the first book to comprehensively address the range of ways that major countries around the world teach religion in public and private educational institutions. It discusses how three models in particular seem to dominate the landscape. Countries with strong cultural traditions focused on a majority religion tend to adopt an "identification model," where instruction is provided only in the tenets of the majority religion, often to the detriment of other religions and their adherents. Countries with traditions that differentiate church and state tend to adopt a "separation model," thus either offering instruction in a wide range of religions, or in some cases teaching very little about religion, intentionally leaving it to religious institutions and the home setting to provide religious instruction. Still other countries attempt "managed pluralism," in which neither one, nor many, but rather a limited handful of major religious traditions are taught. Inevitably, there are countries which do not fit any of these dominant models and the range of methods touched upon in this book will surprise even the most enlightened reader. Religious instruction by educational institutions in 53 countries and regions of the world are explored by experts native to each country. These chapters discuss: Legal parameters in terms of subjective versus objective instruction in religion Constitutional, statutory, social and political contexts to religious approaches Distinctions between the kinds of instruction permitted in elementary and secondary schools versus what is allowed in institutions of higher learning. Regional assessments which provide a welcome overview and comparison. This comprehensive and authoritative volume will appeal to educators, scholars, religious leaders, politicians, and others interested in how religion and education interface around the world.

Book Discipling Nurturing and Reclaiming

Download or read book Discipling Nurturing and Reclaiming written by Nurture and Retention and published by Review and Herald Publishing Association. This book was released on 2021-03-18 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing low church member retention is long overdue. One of the initiatives of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists(R) to address this matter is to hold Nurture and Retention Global Summits. The first one met in November 18-20, 2013 and the second one in April 5-7, 2019. The primary purpose of this publication is to preserve and disseminate the content of the seminars and workshops offered during the 2019 Nurture and Retention Summit. It covers three important related areas: Discipling, Nurturing, and Reclaiming. The secondary, and probably most important, long-term goal is to keep the conversation running and to continue to share and develop best practices to be more effective and efficient in God's mission. We believe this book will give you enough insight about the need to develop more efficient ways to attract and equip new members, as well as sending them to fulfill God's work to "make disciples of all nations" (Matt. 28:19, NIV).

Book Religious Schools in the United States K 12 1993

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1993 this volume is an extension and revision of the 1986 book entitled Religious Schools in America: A Selected Bibliography. This new version contains additional annotated bibliographies of the various denominational schools as well as discussing governmental relation to each setting in the years from 1985 to 1992. This version also covers Greek Orthodox and Muslim schools that were not part of the previous volume and includes a chapter on the growth of home schooling which is often influenced by religion. Finally, unlike the previous edition, this book only considers religious schools, rather than the religious aspect or function of public schooling. Each section includes a short chapter followed by an extensive annotated bibliography making it a useful source for anyone looking for information in the area.
