Book Experience

Download or read book Experience written by Ron Briggs and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-09 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In "Experience", Ron Briggs gives the reader a glimpse of the life he lived in rural upstate New York as a child growing up in the 1950s and 1960s. In Part One of the book, he shares some of the games and other activities in which he, his family, and contemporaries participated, in those rough and tumble times before modern sophistication changed the lives of everyday Americans. "Experience" illustrates some of the ways children of the time occupied themselves on a very meager budget, yet had rewarding outcomes and learned skills necessary to move into a bigger world. Part Two follows Ron through some of his harrowing life experiences that may easily have resulted in tragedy, but rather, the reader is treated to the lighter side of those events. He captures the gravity of each situation and celebrates the eventual outcome.

Book excerpt: What happens when your life is a rom-com . . . but you don’t even believe in true love? Chloe Sanderson is an optimist, and not because her life is easy. As the sole caregiver for her father, who has early-onset Alzheimer’s, she’s pretty much responsible for everything. She has no time—or interest—in getting swept up in some dazzling romance. Not like her best friend, Annie, who literally wrote a rom-com that’s about to premiere in theaters across America . . . and happens to be inspired by Chloe and her cute but no-nonsense boss, Nick Velez. As the buzz for the movie grows, Chloe reads one too many listicles about why Nick is the perfect man, and now she can’t see him as anything but Reason #4: The scruffy-bearded hunk who’s always there when you need him. But unlike the romance Annie has written for them, Chloe isn’t so sure her own story will end in a happily-ever-after.

Book Is Bobby Home

Download or read book Is Bobby Home written by Bob Ciampitti and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-10-31 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Growing up in a row house in a working-class area in the 1950s and 60s, Bobby grows up in what is in many ways a classic image of Americana. The neighborhood is close and friendly, doors are left unlocked, and the moms stay at home while the dads work long hours for modest wages. Children are watched over by everyone in a neighborhood where kids of all ages and backgrounds play together. Take a trip back to the past while Bobby paints a picture of life growing up in the city and the light-hearted adventures (and some misadventures) that ensue, starting with a knock on the door and a simple question... “Is Bobby home?”

Book A Long Short Life

Download or read book A Long Short Life written by Merle W. McMorrow and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In A Long Short Life, Merle W. McMorrow documents a trail of events of his own and his family's experiences from his youth into adulthood. He was born during a time of uncertainty following World War I. Both his father and mother grew up in families that put very little value on education, and therefore neither one finished high school. Their marriage resulted in family difficulties due to religious differences, among other factors. Tragedy struck the family many times, but the event that left a permanent mark on McMorrow and his family was the divorce of his parents. These problems were followed by the deaths of some of other family members, as well as a diagnosis of diabetes for his father. This period of difficulties would ultimately extend through three major historical time periods: the Great Depression, World War II and the Cold War. Despite the many problems his family endured, however, they enjoyed twenty years as a close-knit family, all lovingly chronicled in A Long Short Life.
