Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possibility of measuring the electromagnetic form factor of the pion by extrapolation of the cross section for e/sup -/ + p 1100 deg C are n + The effects of /sup +/ + e/sup -/ was investigated. The method is based on the existence of a pole in the electropionproduction scattering amplitude as a function of the invariant momentum-transfer of the nucleon. The residue of this pole is the pion form factor multiplied by a known coefficient. Since the pole lies slightly outside the physical region of the invariant momentum transfer, an extrapolation of the experimental data is required. An approximate calculation of the electropion-production cross section was made in order to estimate the experimental accuracy necessary for a significant extrapolation. Accuracy is required which is an order of magnitude better than that achieved at present in similar experiments. (auth).

Book The Form Factor of the Neutral Pion

Download or read book The Form Factor of the Neutral Pion written by Peter Nemethy and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an experiment performed at Columbia University's Nevis Cyclotron, the decay 'neutral-pion to gamma photon + electron + positron' was observed. Using a system of counters and spark chambers 2200 events were recorded with an opening angle of the Dalitz pair near 120 deg. The effect of pi-zero structure on the invariant mass spectrum of the pair is interpreted as an electromagnetic form factor for the neutral-pion. The form factor is a linear function, (gamma)(x) = 1 + ax, of the invariant mass squared, x. The experimental result for the form factor slope is a = (+0.01 plus or minus 0.11) (1/(pion mass)sq.).

Book Pion Form Factor in Lattice QCD with Light Pions

Book excerpt: We present a recent calculation of the pion electromagnetic form factor in Lattice QCD with light (~300 MeV) dynamical pions. Our result is consistent with experimental data and the vector meson dominance (VMD) hypothesis up to momentum transfer of 4 GeV2.

Book Charge conjugation Symmetric Complete Impulse Approximation for the Pion Electromagnetic Form Factor in the Covariant Spectator Theory

Download or read book Charge conjugation Symmetric Complete Impulse Approximation for the Pion Electromagnetic Form Factor in the Covariant Spectator Theory written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pion form factor is calculated in the framework of the charge-conjugation invariant covariant spectator theory. This formalism is established in Minkowski space, and the calculation is set up in momentum space. In a previous calculation we included only the leading pole coming from the spectator quark (referred to as the relativistic impulse approximation). In this study we also include the contributions from the poles of the quark which interacts with the photon and average over all poles in both the upper and lower half-planes in order to preserve charge conjugation invariance (referred to as the C-symmetric complete impulse approximation). We find that for small pion mass these contributions are significant at all values of the four-momentum transfer Q2 but, surprisingly, do not alter the shape obtained from the spectator poles alone.
