Book The Basis of Practical Teaching

Download or read book The Basis of Practical Teaching written by Elmer Burritt Bryan and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Basis of Practical Teaching: A Book in Pedagogy More than twenty years' experience as a teacher, half of which has been as a teacher of teachers, has led the author to believe that there are certain fundamental facts of science and principles of education of which all teachers should have a knowledge. The aim in bringing out this volume is to gather together such facts and principles, and put them in readable form. The book is not a pedagogical treatise which assumes a knowledge of psychology, neurology, and child study, neither is it a text on these subjects. If the author has not failed in his purpose, this volume is a plain statement of certain facts in all these fields interpreted in terms of education. It is hoped that the book will be of special benefit to teachers, students of elementary pedagogy in colleges and normal schools, and to parents. The author wishes to acknowledge the courtesy of the Pedagogical Seminary and the Educator-Journal, in which portions of certain chapters have previously been published. Book Studies in Pedagogy Classic Reprint

Download or read book Studies in Pedagogy Classic Reprint written by Thomas Jefferson Morgan and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Studies in Pedagogy Man, it is within yourself, it is in the inner sense of your power, that resides nature's instrument for your development. The price of retaining what we know is always to seek to know more. We preserve our learning and mental power only by increasing them. In fact, what we learn at school and in college is but the foundation of the great work of self-instruction and mutual instruction with which the real education of life begins when what is commonly called the education is finished. Patience, diligence, quiet, and unfatigued perseverance, industry, regularity, and economy of time, as these are the dispositions I would labor to excite, so these are the qualities I would warmly commend. Whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do well. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Practical Pedagogy Classic Reprint

Download or read book Practical Pedagogy Classic Reprint written by S. M. Barrett and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-11 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Pedagogy This work is designed to present in a brief, concise manner a few principles and rules of teaching, and to discuss their application to methods and management in public or common schools. Only such rules and principles are presented as the author has been able to apply successfully year after year in actual schoolroom work. Necessarily, therefore, the work is brief; but it is hoped that it is vitalized by the true teaching spirit, and that being born of experience it will be of practical value. If this volume renders assistance to students in normal schools and training classes, to young teachers who have not received a course of instruction in a professional school, but who are compelled to prepare themselves by independent efforts for the work of teaching, its purposes will have been accomplished. Book A Treatise on Pedagogy

Download or read book A Treatise on Pedagogy written by Edwin C. Hewett and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Pedagogy: For Young Teachers This little book is a growth. Into that growth, several elements have entered: among them are the author's experience as a pupil, first in the country district schools of New England; and his experience, for more than thirty years, as a teacher; together with the digested results of his reading and thinking on educational themes. He has here embodied the substance of his instruction to many successive classes in Normal Schools, and the substance of numerous addresses before Teachers' Institutes and other educational meetings. No attempt has been made to amplify any of the topics treated; on the contrary, a constant and persistent effort has been made to condense to the utmost limit consistent with clearness. This is not a book of methods, although a few methods will be found in it. Its aim is, rather, to present, in a brief and compact form, such principles as underlie and give form to all methods worthy of attention. As the title implies, the book has been written with special regard to the needs of young teachers, or of candidates for the teacher's office. But the author does not expect that such young persons will be able to master the book by a cursory reading; he does, however, flatter himself that young persons of good ability will be able to master the book thoroughly by careful and patient study. Psychology is made the basis of the treatise; the author believes that in no other way can the subject be treated in a rational or scientific manner. Book Elements of Practical Pedagogy Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elements of Practical Pedagogy Classic Reprint written by Brothers Of The Christian Schools and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-25 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Practical Pedagogy Education is often assumed to be mainly a process by which knowledge is communicated or acquired. It is, indeed, all this and much more, for it aims at developing the powers of the mind, training the will, and forming Character. A work on education must, therefore, include the elements of psychology and ethics as well as a detailed account of the canons of pedagogy and accepted methods of teaching. In the following pages, principles are stated and discussed in connection with the practical treatment of the elementary branches taught in the Class - room. Where the abstract is introduced, the concrete application immediately follows. AS the school is to be a nursery of good citizenship, moral teaching accompanies the intellectual, the conscience being formed in accordance with the precepts of religion. Attention has been paid to the vitally important subject Of hygiene in order that the teacher may be fully alive to his responsibilities in regard to the well - being and comfort of his youthful Charges. The value of gymnastics and physical drill as aids in the art Of education, has not been overlooked. Though the present volume is necessarily small, it is believed that no subject of importance has been omitted. A fuller development will be given in a compendious work on pedagogy which is in course of preparation and which will be ready for publication early in the summer. Book Introduction to the Pedagogy of Herbart Classic Reprint

Download or read book Introduction to the Pedagogy of Herbart Classic Reprint written by Christian Ufer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Introduction to the Pedagogy of Herbart American teachers need an introduction to the study of Herbart, first of all because of the organic nature of his systematized thought, but primarily because of the inher ent importance of the ideas themselves. It is difficult to get the full significance of any portion of an organized sys tem without having an understanding of the point of view from which the author sees the whole. This introduction, therefore, which in Simple, concrete manner gives a bird's eye view of the ends and means of education as seen by Herbart, will serve as a reliable guide not only to the works of Herbart himself, but also to the writings of his school. With Herbart and his followers, two important things stand out with especial prominence: (1) the development of sound moral character through the activities of the school as the end of education; and (2) the apperception, or mental assimilative power of the child, as the only safe guide to the means through which this end is to be reached. Download or read book The Principles of Education Classic Reprint written by T. Raymont and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Education At the same time, I have attempted, in planning and executing the work, to contribute in some small degree towards placing the study of education on a secure basis. The great majority of English books on the subject are either frankly empirical or frankly psychological. The merest glance at these pages will show that it would ill become me to speak slightingly of the excellent work that has been done in the first of these directions. But the final word cannot rest with the empiricists. It remains for professed students of education to gather up, to harmonise, and to present in systematic form, the lessons of experience.
