Book Maternal Death and Pregnancy Related Morbidity Among Indigenous Women of Mexico and Central America

Download or read book Maternal Death and Pregnancy Related Morbidity Among Indigenous Women of Mexico and Central America written by David A. Schwartz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-05-31 with total page 789 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious sourcebook surveys both the traditional basis for and the present state of indigenous women’s reproductive health in Mexico and Central America. Noted practitioners, specialists, and researchers take an interdisciplinary approach to analyze the multiple barriers for access and care to indigenous women that had been complicated by longstanding gender inequities, poverty, stigmatization, lack of education, war, obstetrical violence, and differences in language and customs, all of which contribute to unnecessary maternal morbidity and mortality. Emphasis is placed on indigenous cultures and folkways—from traditional midwives and birth attendants to indigenous botanical medication and traditional healing and spiritual practices—and how they may effectively coexist with modern biomedical care. Throughout these chapters, the main theme is clear: the rights of indigenous women to culturally respective reproductive health care and a successful pregnancy leading to the birth of healthy children. A sampling of the topics: Motherhood and modernization in a Yucatec village Maternal morbidity and mortality in Honduran Miskito communities Solitary birth and maternal mortality among the Rarámuri of Northern Mexico Maternal morbidity and mortality in the rural Trifino region of Guatemala The traditional Ngäbe-Buglé midwives of Panama Characterizations of maternal death among Mayan women in Yucatan, Mexico Unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion, and unmet need in Guatemala Maternal Death and Pregnancy-Related Morbidity Among Indigenous Women of Mexico and Central America is designed for anthropologists and other social scientists, physicians, nurses and midwives, public health specialists, epidemiologists, global health workers, international aid organizations and NGOs, governmental agencies, administrators, policy-makers, and others involved in the planning and implementation of maternal and reproductive health care of indigenous women in Mexico and Central America, and possibly other geographical areas.

Book Of Paradise and Light

Download or read book Of Paradise and Light written by Donald R. Dickson and published by University of Delaware Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection examines intertextual intersections in the works of Henry Vaughan and John Milton and considers their aesthetic, philosophical, or political implications. The theoretical pluralism of the volume reveals the variety and complexity of textual relations in the words of these early modern authors. Some of the essays focus on the author's conscious creation of intertext, others explore the reader's negotiation of books within books, while still others examine the linguistic effect of textual intersections. The essays not only consider material borrowing, but also explore the absorption of concepts or formal structures from antecedent texts. The volume not only adds to the debate on Milton's iteration, duplication, and renovation of precursor texts, but represents the first collection of original essays on the poetry and prose of Henry Vaughan, essays authored by experts in the field. Donald Dickson is Professor of English at Texas A&M University. Holly Faith Nelson is Assistant Professor of English at Trinity Western University.

Book The Satanic Epic

Download or read book The Satanic Epic written by Neil Forsyth and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-10 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Satan of Paradise Lost has fascinated generations of readers. This book attempts to explain how and why Milton's Satan is so seductive. It reasserts the importance of Satan against those who would minimize the poem's sympathy for the devil and thereby make Milton orthodox. Neil Forsyth argues that William Blake got it right when he called Milton a true poet because he was "of the Devils party" even though he set out "to justify the ways of God to men." In seeking to learn why Satan is so alluring, Forsyth ranges over diverse topics--from the origins of evil and the relevance of witchcraft to the status of the poetic narrator, the epic tradition, the nature of love between the sexes, and seventeenth-century astronomy. He considers each of these as Milton introduces them: as Satanic subjects. Satan emerges as the main challenge to Christian belief. It is Satan who questions and wonders and denounces. He is the great doubter who gives voice to many of the arguments that Christianity has provoked from within and without. And by rooting his Satanic reading of Paradise Lost in Biblical and other sources, Forsyth retrieves not only an attractive and heroic Satan but a Milton whose heretical energies are embodied in a Satanic character with a life of his own.

Book Housewives Can Change the World

Download or read book Housewives Can Change the World written by Ann S. Eagle and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-06-28 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is this key? How and why did I get it, anyway? What is it used for? My story started long before I became a housewife. Since a very young age, I have seen God at work preparing me for such a time as this. Though I didnt know God until I was twenty-one years old, He knew me from my mothers womb, and He had a plan for my life. Satan had a plan too, but greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. I am grateful God came to earth through His Son Jesus Christ to save and call people like me. We are saved by what Jesus did on the cross and not by what we do. Therefore, there is no pressure to perform. Because God shows no favoritism we are also free from jealousy, envy and strife. The good news is that this is for everyone! We are all free to hear His voice! We are all free to obey! He gave all of us the keys of the Kingdom when we got saved. SO WHY THIS ONE KEY?

However, Mr Eze not only seemed unwilling to bestow it, but hell bent in making life unbearable for his acclaimed son. Kelvin thought it would be best to find his true family rather than endure the torture of being the unwanted child. He realised that his quest for recognition was unlikely to succeed, so he set his eyes on freedom. In the meantime, Kelvin expected that a good academic performance would change his luck and put him right with Mr Eze or at least boost his confidence in his abilities. With all his attention on his studies, competing for the best grades against the leading brains in his class, especially Christian, an indomitable rival, he would not let school romance get in the way fo his goal. But slowly and steadily, Chioma, gained his trust and won him over. He would have to make a decision between holding on to his moral principle or satisfying his human desire for friendship. New Home, New Identity Marginalised and decimated, the Biafran people were forced to go to war and secede from Nigeria. But decades after losing the war and embracing the Nigerian identity, they are still not treated as equal citizens in their home country. As a new wave of terrorism sweeps the northern parts of the country, the Biafran people, predominantly Igbo are again decimated as they have been for decades in every crises and this led to renewed discussions about their independence. For Biafra, the fight for equality was over and their Sovereignty was not negotiable. For Kelvin, it wasn’t very different, and so his quest for truth and independence must begin. His compulsory holiday in Igbo land would expose him to the truth that might have indirectly caused him to abandon his academic pursuit. Perhaps, it was just an excuse to free himself from the clutch of Mr Eze and begin his quest for the truth about his identity.

Without this understanding we are reading terms outside of their true meaning and can become confused on what the words of scripture are trying to reveal. We must recognize the use of symbolism is very prevalent in prophecy, and we should not interpret symbolism too literally or physically. Symbolism is widely used in both the Old and the New Testaments. We cannot allow ourselves to interpret symbolism as only a physical manifestation, if we do, we can twist the scriptures into unrealistic physical renderings that completely distort the true meaning of the writing, and we lose the intended meaning of the prophecy. “COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, A JOURNEY THROUGH PROPHECY,” explores the scriptures seeking the true meaning of Bible prophecy. All prophecy centers around Jesus, His kingdom, and His rule. The study of all prophecy must be Christ centered. As you read this book, you will gain true insight and understanding.
