Download or read book A High Sensitivity Search for CP Violating Rare K sub L Decays and Precision Measurement of the Direct CP Violation Parameter epsilon prime written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fermilab experiments E731, E773, E799, and E832 are a series of experiments to investigate the physics of CP violation, CPT violation, and rare decays of the neutral kaon system. E731 finished data taking in 1988, during past year the full data set analysis was completed and yielded ([var epsilon][prime]/[var epsilon])[sub 2[pi]]=(7.4 [plus minus] 5.2 [stat] [plus minus] 2.9 [syst]) [times] 10[sup [minus]4] . The value favors a high top ark mass value within the Standard Model. E773 tests CPT violation by determining ([Delta][phi])[sub 2[pi]] with an accuracy of about 0.5[sup 0]. Data were taken during the last Fermilab Fixed Target run period between September and November 1991. It is anticipated the data analysis will be finished within a year. E799, with the primary goal of observing direct Cp Violation via searching for the rare decay K[sub L][yields] [pi][sup 0] l [sup +]l[sup [minus]] (where l = e, [mu] [nu]) took test data between November 1991 and January 1992 (Phase 1). Some preliminary results are shown here. E799 (Phase II) and E832 (a follow up experiment of E731) are scheduled to take data after the current Fermilab collider run with a new facility and detector.

Book Time Dependent CP Violation Measurements

Download or read book Time Dependent CP Violation Measurements written by Markus Röhrken and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a high-quality, high-precision method for the data analysis of an interesting elementary particle reaction. The data was collected at the Japanese B-meson factory KEKB with the Belle detector, one of the most successful large-scale experiments worldwide. CP violation is a subtle quantum effect that makes the world look different when simultaneously left and right and matter and antimatter are exchanged. This being a prerequisite for our own world to have developed from the big bang, there are only a few experimental indications of such effects, and their detection requires very intricate techniques. The discovery of CP violation in B meson decays garnered Kobayashi and Maskawa, who had predicted these findings as early as 1973, the 2008 Nobel prize in physics. This thesis describes in great detail what are by far the best measurements of branching ratios and CP violation parameters in two special reactions with two charm mesons in the final state. It presents an in-depth but accessible overview of the theory, phenomenology, experimental setup, data collection, Monte Carlo simulations, (blind) statistical data analysis, and systematic uncertainty studies.

Book Measurements of CP Violation and Neutral Kaon Charge Radius Using K L Pi pi e e Decays

Download or read book Measurements of CP Violation and Neutral Kaon Charge Radius Using K L Pi pi e e Decays written by Alexander Golossanov and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CP violation and K{sup 0} charge radius were measured using K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}e{sup +}e{sup -} decays. Specifically, a unique CP-violating decay-plane asymmetry was measured along with the parameters of individual contributions to the decay invariant amplitude: (1) CP-conserving magnetic dipole direct emission form factor, (2) CP-conserving K{sup 0} charge radius transition amplitude and (3) an upper limit for the CP-violating electric dipole direct emission amplitude. The measurements were obtained from the data sample accumulated by KTeV experiment at Fermilab. KTeV had two major goals: the measurement of direct CP violation parameter Re({var_epsilon}{prime}/{var_epsilon}) and the study of rare kaon decays. The state of the art detector was constructed, commissioned, operated and maintained by an international collaboration of scientists from fourteen institutions. The K{sub L} {yields} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} e{sup +}e{sup -} data was accumulated over the 1997 and 1999 running periods. During that time hundreds of billions K{sub L} decays took place in the KTeV fiducial decay region.

Book Measurement of the CP Violation Parameter in Neutral Kaon Decays

Download or read book Measurement of the CP Violation Parameter in Neutral Kaon Decays written by and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interference between K(S) and K(L) decays into the final state pi+pi-gamma has been observed in experiment 731 at Fermilab. By fitting the distribution of decays downstream of a regenerator, a new CP-violation parameter eta+-gamma, analogous to eta+-, has been measured, with its magnitude equal to (2.15 +/- 0.26 +/- 0.20) x 10( -3), and phi+-gamma, the associated phase angle, equal to (72 +/- 23 +/- 17)degrees. Assuming that any difference between this fit value for eta+-, and the previously measured value for eta+- can be attributed to direct CP violation in this decay, a limit of \epsilon'+-gamma\/epsilon

Book CP Violation in B s 0 J psi phi Decays

Download or read book CP Violation in B s 0 J psi phi Decays written by Sabato Leo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports on the final measurement of the flavor-mixing phase in decays of strange-bottom mesons (B_s) into J/psi and phi mesons performed in high-energy proton-antiproton collisions recorded by the Collider Experiment at Fermilab. Interference occurs between direct decays and decays following virtual particle-antiparticle transitions (B_s-antiB_s). The phase difference between transition amplitudes (“mixing phase”) is observable and extremely sensitive to contributions from non-standard-model particles or interactions that may be very hard to detect otherwise – a fact that makes the precise measurement of the B_s mixing phase one of the most important goals of particle physics. The results presented include a precise determination of the mixing phase and a suite of other important supplementary results. All measurements are among the most precise available from a single experiment and provide significantly improved constraints on the phenomenology of new particles and interactions.

Book Re epsilon epsilon Result from KTeV An Observation of Direct CP Violation

Download or read book Re epsilon epsilon Result from KTeV An Observation of Direct CP Violation written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using a subset of data collected in the 1996-97 fixed target run at Fermilab, the authors report the first preliminary measurement on the direct-CP violation from the KTeV experiment. The result is, e'/e = (28.0-4.1) x 10−4, nearly 7 standard deviations above zero obtained by a blind analysis. This establishes the long-sought direct-CP violation effect in the two-pion system of neutral kaon decays. The experimental technique, data analysis and systematic checks for this measurement are discussed and the comparison with other measurements is also presented.

Book An Observation of Direct CP Violation epsilon prime epsilon Result from KTeV

Download or read book An Observation of Direct CP Violation epsilon prime epsilon Result from KTeV written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the first KTeV measurement for the search of direct-CP violation by using 23% of the data sample collected in the 1996-97 fixed target run at Fermilab. The result is, Re([epsilon][prime]/[epsilon])= (28.0[+-] 4.1) x 10[sup -4], nearly 7[delta] above zero obtained by a blind analysis. This firmly establishes the long-sought ''direct-CP violation'' effect in the two-pion system ([pi][sup+][pi][sup -] versus[pi][sup 0][pi][sup 0]) of neutral kaon decays. Other new measurements of[Delta]m, [tau][sub s], [Delta][phi] and a limit on the diurnal variation of[phi][sub+-] for testing CPT invariance from the same data sample are also presented.
