Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past 2,000 years, as Christ has been building his church, the Beatitudes have historically been viewed as one of the central texts in all of Scripture. It is safe to say that the very heart of Christian existence lays in these words of our Savior. Sadly, however, the more we hear certain phrases, the more likely we are to gloss over there true meaning. Unfortunately for most Christians in our modern day, the Beatitudes are looked at as a random collection of pithy, nice sayings that might look good on a throw pillow, instead of the rich, eternal and unchanging truths they truly are. This exposition seeks to bring out the theological depth, as well as the personal relevance and practicality of this most revered passage of Holy Writ. May God use this work to bless his church.

Book The Sermon on the Mount and Human Flourishing

Download or read book The Sermon on the Mount and Human Flourishing written by Jonathan T. Pennington and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2017-06-20 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sermon on the Mount, one of the most influential portions of the Bible, is the most studied and commented upon portion of the Christian Scriptures. Every Christian generation turns to it for insight and guidance. In this volume, a recognized expert on the Gospels shows that the Sermon on the Mount offers a clear window into understanding God's work in Christ. Jonathan Pennington provides a historical, theological, and literary commentary on the Sermon and explains how this text offers insight into God's plan for human flourishing. As Pennington explores the literary dimensions and theological themes of this famous passage, he situates the Sermon in dialogue with the Jewish and Greek virtue traditions and the philosophical-theological question of human flourishing. He also relates the Sermon's theological themes to contemporary issues such as ethics, philosophy, and economics.

Book THE BEATITUDES AND LORDS PRAYER

Download or read book THE BEATITUDES AND LORDS PRAYER written by A.W Pink and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-11-29 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Opinion has been much divided concerning the design, scope, and application of the Sermon on the Mount. Most commentators have seen in it an exposition of Christian ethics. Men such as the late Count Tolstoi have regarded it as the setting forth of a "golden rule" for all men to live by. Others have dwelt upon its dispensational bearings, insisting that it belongs not to the saints of the present dispensation but to believers within a future millennium. Two inspired statements, however, reveal its true scope. In Matthew 5:1, 2, we learn that Christ was here teaching His disciples. From Matthew 7:28, 29, it is clear that He was also addressing a great multitude of the people. Thus it is evident that this address of our Lord contains instruction both for believers and unbelievers alike.
