Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by W. H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 24 (thesis year 1979) a total of 10,033 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 215 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 24 reports these submitted in 1979, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book RS232 Data Acquisition System DAS

Download or read book RS232 Data Acquisition System DAS written by Andrew. G. Gray and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This project's aims were to provide a cost effective method of providing analog and digital input and output. This was built keeping cost to a minimum and to be driven by a personal computer. It was to be aimed primarily at the secondary school market and therefore should be easy to use, and inexpensive to build. The design aims were to provide analog input/output at a sampling frequency of around one kilohertz and resolution of 7-8 bits. Approximately 7-8 digital input/output lines were also to be provided. It was decided to design the project to allow data acquisition over an RS232 (serial) interface. This interface was chosen to allow the design to be connected to as wide a variety of personal computers as possible. By using a serial port many of the smaller, cheaper computers such as Microbee's, Commodore 64's etc. could be used, thereby not just limiting the project to IBM's and clones. The design should allow the input of data for both analog (voltages) and digital (switched) inputs. Basically the outcome is an Analog to Digital converter that would plug into the serial port of a personal computer. It was decided that more than one channel should be provided and that these channels should be multiplexed (scanned one after another). A major component of the project was to keep it at a costing level affordable to the secondary school senior classroom with limited funds. To keep cost to an absolute minimum several design compromises were made regarding speed and resolution of the converters. .............. " -- Abstract/Synopsis.

Book The Forest Atmosphere Interaction

Download or read book The Forest Atmosphere Interaction written by B.A. Hutchison and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of meteorological phenomena upon forest produc tivity and forestry operations have been of concern for many years. With the evolution of system-level studies of forest eco system structure and function in the International Biological Program and elsewhere, more fundamental interactions between forest ecosystems and the atmosphere received scientific atten tion but the emphasis on meteorological and climatological effects on forest processes remained. More recently, as recogni tion has developed of potential and actual problems associated with the atmospheric transport, dispersion, and deposition of airborne pollutants, the effects of forest canopies upon boundary-layer meteorological phenomena has come under scientific scrutiny. Looking to the future, with rising atmospheric con centrations of C02 and increasing competition for the finite fresh-water resources of the earth, interest in the role of forests in global C02 and water balances can also be expected to intensify. Thus, the nature of forest canopy-atmosphere interac tions, that is to say, the meteorological phenomena occurring in and above forest canopies, are of importance to a wide variety of scientific and social-issues. Demands for forest meteorological information currently exceed levels of knowledge and given the economic constraints of science in general and environmental sciences in particular, chances for major improvements in scien tific support in the near future are slim. Unfortunately, studies of environmental phenomena in and above forests are costly and logistically difficult. Trees, the ecological dominants of forest ecosystems, are the largest of all terrestrial organisms.

Book Data Acquisition Systems

Download or read book Data Acquisition Systems written by Maurizio Di Paolo Emilio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-21 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the fundamentals of data acquisition systems, how they enable users to sample signals that measure real physical conditions and convert the resulting samples into digital, numeric values that can be analyzed by a computer. The author takes a problem-solving approach to data acquisition, providing the tools engineers need to use the concepts introduced. Coverage includes sensors that convert physical parameters to electrical signals, signal conditioning circuitry to convert sensor signals into a form that can be converted to digital values and analog-to-digital converters, which convert conditioned sensor signals to digital values. Readers will benefit from the hands-on approach, culminating with data acquisition projects, including hardware and software needed to build data acquisition systems.
