Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As humans we encounter many situations, good and bad. We react based on our foundational principles and our surroundings. Our actions stem from the root of our upbringing, the lack and overflow thereof. Despite who we are, who we perceive ourselves to be, or how others perceive us, life happens. The book was inspired with the intent to look at life situations and apprehend the fact that we enter and depart from life as individuals and yet we share the same life experiences. This book addresses life occurrences using descriptive words, biblical meanings of numbers, poetry, and journaling. The book could be utilized as a tool of addressing life without the belief that the only option is failure.

Book Blueprints

Download or read book Blueprints written by Terry Watson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-05-31 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blueprints is a book of poetry dealing with everyday emotions whether it's Love, relationships, breakups, and a host of other feelings that we as humans experience from time to time. Blueprints is only to show its readers that there is hope. No matter how bad a situation may seem, it can and will get better. Most poems in this book comes from my own experience and going through the life that I've lived, letting my readers know that you are not alone. One of my favorite Poems in this book is Changes, and when you read it you will know why. The name Blueprints is self-explanitory. I chose this name because it forms a bond around everything written inside. We must blueprint our life now, otherwise in the future we will be left wondering how, when, or what happened. Blueprints can save a life from pain and unhappiness. Just as a house is built, there are Blueprints and a plan so that construction can begin on a solid foundation. That way when it's complete, or, "At The Top", it's much harder to fall down because it was Blueprinted. Blueprint your life now as I have Blueprinted this book and remember. It's never too late. This book isn't to make it's readers distrust their Loved ones, but only to let the truth be told. Everything happens for a reason so the book Blueprints is here to comfort its readers that have experienced the same thoughts and feelings as it's writer. I hope all the readers of this book can understand the poems in it because they come directly from my heart, so I'm sure someone somewhere will be helped. I ask that you enjoy this book and share it with your Loved ones and friends because Poetry is the backbone of books. So again, enjoy, and let the words flow through your heart just as they came from mine.

Book Communism and Poetry

Download or read book Communism and Poetry written by Ruth Jennison and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communism and Poetry: Writing Against Capital addresses the relationship between an upsurge in collective political practice around the world since 2000, and the crystallization of newly engaged forms of poetry. Considering an array of perspectives—poets, poet-critics, activists and theorists—these essays shed new light on the active interface between emancipatory political thought and poetic production and explore how poetry and the new communism are creating mutually innovative forms of thought and activity, supercharging the utopian imagination. Drawing inspiration from past connections between communism and poetry, and theorizing new directions over the years ahead, the volume models a much-needed critical solidarity with creative strategies in the present conjuncture to activate movements of resistance, on the streets and in verse.

Book June Jordan s Poetry for the People

Download or read book June Jordan s Poetry for the People written by Lauren Muller and published by Burns & Oates. This book was released on 1995 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This lively "blueprint" (guidebook) represents collaborative efforts of the Poetry for the People, 60 or more multicultural students under the leadership of June Jordan at the University of California, Berkeley. Describing how-tos of grassroots poetry programs and staunchly pledged to current politically correct tenets of diversity, in addition to printing student poems, this anthology reviews how to take readings and workshops into the community and cultivate "empowerment by affirming that everybody has something to offer." Chapters discuss these "cultural literacies": African American; Asian American; Caribbean; Chicana/o, Latina/o American; children's; deaf; gay and lesbian; Irish and Irish American; Native American; and women's. This celebration of "explorative" poetry as a communal, oral art form is an easy-to-use, timely reference for community college, public libraries, and writers' centers. Book The Literary Culture of Early Modern Scotland

Download or read book The Literary Culture of Early Modern Scotland written by Sebastiaan Verweij and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the literary history of Scotland in the early modern period (1560-1625) by investigating what was the most important way of publishing such literature (mostly poetry): the manuscript. It organises the majority of surviving manuscripts by three different types of place where they were written and read: 1) the royal court, 2) the city, and 3) the country. It has long been believed that the renaissance in Scotland was a disappointing affair, butthis book argues that in fact it has long been misunderstood: the contents of little-known manuscripts paint a picture of a much more interesting cultural history than was previously known.

Book Blueprints for a Black Federal Theatre

Download or read book Blueprints for a Black Federal Theatre written by Rena Fraden and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-06-28 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1930s, the Work Progress Administration funded a massive Federal Theatre Project in America's major urban centres, presenting hundreds of productions, some of the most popular and memorable of which were produced in the highly controversial and avant garde 'Negro Units'. This experiment in government-supported culture brought to the forefront one of the central problems in American democratic culture - the representation of racial difference. Those in the profession quickly discovered inescapable ideological responsibilities attending any sort of show, whether apparently entertaining or political in nature. Exploring the liberal idealism of the thirties and the critical debates in black journals over the role of an African American theatre, Fraden also looks at the obstacles facing black playwrights, audiences, and actors in a changing milieu.

Book Baudelaire and the Aesthetics of Bad Faith

Download or read book Baudelaire and the Aesthetics of Bad Faith written by Susan Blood and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1997-04-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of Baudelaire's canonization in the critical debates of the twentieth century, focusing particularly on his role in the development of a modernist consciousness. Much recent work on Baudelaire assumes his modernism by emphasizing his relationship to current critical preoccupations—by sounding him out on issues of race and gender, for example, or by "correcting" his politics. The author begins from the premise that this updating of Baudelaire mistakenly takes him for our contemporary. Instead, she attempts to treat modernism as a historical problem by seeing Baudelaire as engaged in a more difficult dialogue with twentieth-century critics. The book concentrates on two key moments in the literary history of the twentieth century, the periods following each world war. At these junctures French intellectuals intensely reconsidered their cultural patrimony and articulated something like a modernist consciousness. Baudelaire stood at the center of this process, becoming a sacred figure of modernism, and his poetry contributed to a radical reorienting of aesthetic sensibilities. For the post-World War I period, the author focuses on Paul Valéry's essay "Baudelaire's Situation"; for post-World War II, on the virulent debate between Jean-Paul Sartre and Georges Bataille over the question of Baudelaire's "bad faith." She argues that Sartre's resistance to the sacralization of Baudelaire and to the continuing formulation of a modernist ideology actually suggests a valuable way of rethinking Baudelaire's poetry and critiquing the modern consciousness. She attempts to show that something like an "aesthetics of bad faith" exists, and that it is a useful concept for understanding modernism in relationship to its own history. Throughout, Baudelaire's poetry is examined in detail, with a focus on its relationship to his writings on caricature, on the problem of the "secret architecture," and on the place of allegory in a symbolist poetics. In the closing chapter, the author analyzes Baudelaire's denunciation of photography, which reveals the various tensions (or "bad faith") implicit in the modernist consciousness.

Book Derek Mahon A Retrospective

Download or read book Derek Mahon A Retrospective written by Nicholas Grene and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2024-09-17 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derek Mahon (1941–2020) is widely recognized as one of the most important Irish poets of his generation. This collection of new critical essays offers an important retrospective assessment of the nature of his poetic achievement. Bringing together many leading scholars of modern and contemporary Irish poetry, including a notable number of accomplished poet-critics, its contributors range widely across Mahon’s body of work. Their essays offer fresh considerations of the biographical, geographical and literary contexts that shaped his poetic voice. This includes paying attention not only to more familiar influences but also to previously little considered interlocutors. The stylistic and formal achievement of his voice is re-evaluated in ways that range from attentive close readings to considerations of his controversial practice of self-revision, and his engagements with music and experiments in translation. The politics of a poet often misleadingly considered apolitical are also reframed to take in the engagements of his early work through to the ecocritical commitment of his later poetry. Indeed, a notable aspect of this book is the consideration it gives to all the phases of Mahon’s career. As a whole, the collection opens up many new ways of reading and understanding Mahon’s important body of work.

Book Youth Poets

  • Author : Korina M. Jocson
  • Publisher : Peter Lang
  • Release : 2008
  • ISBN : 9780820481968
  • Pages : 236 pages

Download or read book Youth Poets written by Korina M. Jocson and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Youth Poets documents an ethnographic study of the literacy learning of urban high school youth in June Jordan's Poetry for the People program. The book emphasizes how seven students adopted empowering literacies as they read, wrote, published, and performed poetry in and outside of school. Using a sociocultural and critical framework on literacy and pedagogy, the book focuses on the experiences of urban youth - from their own perspectives - to examine the various processes, products, and practices associated with poetry. It contributes to current research on literacy pedagogy in urban contexts, and further grounds connections between poetry production and academic and critical literacies. Not only does the research presented here support the use of poetry in itself, but it makes a case for the ways in which poetry can lead to transformative possibilities in diverse and multicultural classrooms.
