Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baptist pastor Charles Haddon Spurgeon is remembered today as the Prince of Preachers. But in addition to his sermons, he regularly reading a Bible passage before his message and gave a verse-by-verse exposition, rich in gospel insight and wisdom for the Christian life. === Sample: 1 John 1:1-3 === 1 John 1 1. That which was from the beginning which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life. You remember how John begins his Gospel: “In the beginning was the Word “and how, a little later, he says, “In him was life.” The Holy Spirit seems to have recalled those expressions to his mind, for he moves him to use them again. Note how clearly, how explicitly, John writes concerning the Logos, the eternal Word. He says, “That which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled of the Word of life,…that declare we unto you.” The facts of Christ’s history on earth are recorded by eye-witnesses who could not be deceived concerning them. They exercised their various senses with regard to Christ—hearing, seeing, and touching him again and again. They were veracious witnesses, and they died in testimony of their faith in what they asserted. And when anything has been heard, seen, inspected, and even touched and handled, by a company of reliable witnesses, the testimony of such witnesses concerning it must be accepted as true. 2. (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us.) John and his fellow-apostles were eye witnesses of the coming to earth of God in human flesh—the indwelling of the Word of life in a body like our own. That same eternal Being who is Very God of Very God, and is worthy to be called essentially Life, was made flesh and dwelt among us, and the Apostles could say—“We beheld his glory.” 3. That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you. See how he hammers this nail as if he will drive it fast! How he rings this bell that it may toll the death-knell of every doubt! That ye also may have fellowship with us. But John, what is the value of fellowship with you, you and your brethren, a parcel of poor fishermen, who wants fellowship with you-hooted, despised, mocked and persecuted in every city—who wants fellowship with you? And truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. What a leap from the fisherman to the Father’s throne, from the poor, despised son of Zebedee up to the King of Kings! Oh, John, we would have fellowship with thee now! We will have fellowship with thy scorn and spitting, that we may have fellowship with thee, and with the Father, and his Son Jesus Christ. The Father delights in his risen Son, no more to suffer and to die, having accomplished all his work; and I am sure that we have fellowship with the Father in that rejoicing. Then think what is the joy of Christ, who has passed through the shades of death, and risen from all the gloom of the sepulcher no more to die. I trust, dear brethren and sisters in Christ, that we have fellowship with him, for we also have risen with him unto newness of life.

Book Sentence By Sentence Thru John 1

Download or read book Sentence By Sentence Thru John 1 written by Gerard Cotter and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 3-volume Study on the Gospel of John follows the Biblical Way to understand God's word as specified in Isaiah 28. This book provides the interpretation, not an application, as most commentaries provide. It also provides proof that there are no errors nor any conflicts within the KJV-1611.Isaiah 28 tells us that God teaches knowledge, and gives understanding, "precept upon precept; line upon line". Precepts are truths which never change and a precept will be the same no matter where you find it in the Bible. That is the basis of the claim that 'scripture interprets scripture' and this book has over 30,000 references in it to show that the doctrine is the same across the Bible. It also uses the sentence format because the word "line", in Isaiah 28, is a 'measuring line' and language is measured by punctuation, which gives us sentences and not verses. This book deals with every sentence, every verse, every punctuation mark, every phrase and every doctrinally significant word in the Gospel of John. This is what is required to truly "prove" something and, since nothing is skipped, this book provides the proof of no errors nor any 'problem verses'.This book was designed and written as a web page and provides the option to be read from start to end, or used as a reference book, or any combination of either option. It can be found at ljc1611kjv.com. This book is a print format for those people who prefer the printed book. Reading the Gospel, and this book, from beginning to end shows the order in which God wanted His message presented and shows the consistency of God's presentation. Used as a reference, it provides support for proving that God never changes and that His word is consistent across the Bible. Each sentence is outlined according to the Biblical usage of punctuation with a title for each phrase. Following the sentence outline is an explanation of the sentence and any consideration of context. After those notes are Biblical word definitions which are not always the same as used common language. For example, every word in the Bible has only one definition and no two words have the same meaning within the Bible. While this is common among men, it causes confusion, and God is not the author of confusion. In addition, God never changes and multiple definitions for Bible words, or more than one word with the same definition, would require God to change between when He used men to write the different Bible references. In addition to those considerations, the multiple references and outlines provide study tools for serious students of the Bible. For example, there is a cross-reference of miracles in the Bible that no one has found the match of. The sequence of actions, reported in the various gospels, for the betrayal, trials, crucifixion, resurrection and appearances afterwards, are included. Please see the Addendum for more details.
