Book A Patriot s History of the United States

Download or read book A Patriot s History of the United States written by Larry Schweikart and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2004-12-29 with total page 1350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past three decades, many history professors have allowed their biases to distort the way America’s past is taught. These intellectuals have searched for instances of racism, sexism, and bigotry in our history while downplaying the greatness of America’s patriots and the achievements of “dead white men.” As a result, more emphasis is placed on Harriet Tubman than on George Washington; more about the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II than about D-Day or Iwo Jima; more on the dangers we faced from Joseph McCarthy than those we faced from Josef Stalin. A Patriot’s History of the United States corrects those doctrinaire biases. In this groundbreaking book, America’s discovery, founding, and development are reexamined with an appreciation for the elements of public virtue, personal liberty, and private property that make this nation uniquely successful. This book offers a long-overdue acknowledgment of America’s true and proud history.

Book The Secret of Progress Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Secret of Progress Classic Reprint written by W. Cunningham and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 2016-10-16 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Secret of Progress Buckle1 regarded it as clear that militarism and high intellectual development were not compatible: till recently, many people were prepared to believe that warfare was alien to the interest of civilised peoples and could only occur among half civilised or backward races. But this war has shown that these hopes were vain, and that the last result of civilisation was not to render war impossible, but to give the means of carrying it out on a vastly extended scale. The increase of knowledge and of power over nature, and the sense of the benefits of intercourse and inter-communication have not sufficed to give us any immunity from war. Book The Foundations of Strategy Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Foundations of Strategy Classic Reprint written by Henry Melvill Johnstone and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Foundations of Strategy Foundations are broad and solid, but do not exhibit much detail. The art of Strategy, fully described, would be the work of a lifetime, and from its very bulk would be the despair of a publisher. But the foundations can be drawn on a reasonable expanse of paper. The object of this preface is to justify the creation of the new technical phrase, Full Strength, which is the comer-stone of this book. It is recognised every where that there is a master principle for success in war. Various efforts have been made to express this principle. Surprise and the initiative are the secret of success in war is one of these efforts. But this is not the real foundation, for you may gain all the advantage of surprise and still fail to produce as great a relative strength as was possible. Economy of force on secondary objects is another effort. This is good as far as it goes, but it does not cover the ground. You may operate in so correct a manner with regard to detachments that you have everything available for the decisive collision, While omitting to take measures that would prevent the enemy having a similar totality of available strength. Book Principles of Strategy With Historical Illustrations Classic Reprint

Download or read book Principles of Strategy With Historical Illustrations Classic Reprint written by Colonel William K. Naylor and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Strategy With Historical Illustrations On the reopening of The General Service Schools in September, 1919, and my return to my former position as Instructor in Strategy and Military History, I found that a desire had developed among American officers for American text-books. To meet this expressed desire and to write a text-book that could be available during the course, I merely had an opportunity to assemble the notes I had used in the past, supplementing them with such reference to The World War as the time would permit. Many of the illustrations used have been taken from our own Civil War. In some cases, illustrations from other text-book writers have been adopted. These illustrations have been verified and in many cases amplified. In general, the form of von der Goltz's Conduct of War, which had been used in these schools as a text-book, has been followed. The introduction, and Chapter V, in so far as it deals with the German and French mobilizations of 1866-1870, have been taken largely from Derrecagaix's Modern War. The chapter on Finance follows closely Cordonnier's The Japanese in Manchuria. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book National Park Service Guide to the Historic Places of the American Revolution Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from National Park Service Guide to the Historic Places of the American Revolution Men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; 'tis dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed, if so celestial an article as Freedom should not be. Book The March of Patriots

Download or read book The March of Patriots written by Paul Kelly and published by Melbourne Univ. Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 731 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unveiling the inside story of how Paul Keating and John Howard changed Australia, this record presents these two personalities as conviction politicians, tribal warriors, and national interest patriots. Divided by belief, temperament, and party, they were united by generation, city, and the challenge to make Australia into a successful nation for the globalized age. The making of policy and the uses of power are explored, capturing the authentic nature of Australian politics as distinct from the polemics advanced by both sides. Focusing on how these prime ministers altered the nation's direction, this study also depicts how they redefined their parties and struggled over Australia's new economic, social, cultural, and foreign policy agendas. A sequel to the author’s bestselling The End of Certainty, this survey is based on more than 100 interviews with the two key players as well as other politicians, advisers, and public servants.
