Book Three dimensional Object Reconstruction Using Structured Light and Two Two dimensional Images

Download or read book Three dimensional Object Reconstruction Using Structured Light and Two Two dimensional Images written by Philippe Lavoie and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For machine vision and for graphical representation of real objects in a computer environment, the three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the image of a real object has become a key technique. A few methods such as range finding, which use laser scanners, computer tomography, based on CTR or MRI machines, computational stereo, etc. were developed. Computational stereo is broadly defined as the recovery of 3D characteristics of a scene from a series of images obtained from different points in the three dimensional (Euclidean) space. In this thesis, a new algorithm and system is introduced and developed for the 3D reconstruction of the images of real objects from two 2D images required with two cameras. The algorithm is based on a new matching method, a new procedure for the determination of the fundamental matrix used in stereo vision, and a new technique for stereo fusion. The novelty of the matching procedure, and of the determination of the camera alignment, consists of the projection of a structured light pattern on the real object, the pattern being created using a pseudo-random encoded mesh (PRBA) (34). The novelty of the stereo fusion algorithm consists of the application of the dynamic programming principle (DP) (5) (27) using a cost function which contains the information obtained from the list of matched points. It is also proposed to use an autoregressive (AR) modeling technique for calculating the stereo disparity of each pixel of the two images. The autoregressive filter helps the DP part of the algorithm to calculate the disparity of the pixels when the above pixels are occluded. The above proposed methods offer three distinctive advantages over a conventional stereo system: (1) It easily generates a list of matching points. (2) It adds structure to an object without textures. (3) It is less computational intensive.

Book A Structured Light Based 3D Reconstruction Using Combined Circular Phase Shifting Patterns

Download or read book A Structured Light Based 3D Reconstruction Using Combined Circular Phase Shifting Patterns written by Yujia Zhang and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coded structured light is one of the most effective and reliable techniques for surface reconstruction. With a calibrated projector-camera stereo system, a set of illuminating patterns are projected onto the scene by projector and the image is captured by the camera. The correspondences between projector and camera frames are calculated in the decoding process, which is used for triangulation and point cloud generation. Continuous phase shifting method is a well-known fringe projection technique for 3D scanning. A set of sinusoidal patterns showing variation of intensity or color are projected onto the surface. This proposal, introduces a novel circular phase shifting method to improve the decoding accuracy, without the trade-off between the processing speed and decoding accuracy. In the proposed approach, three-step circular phase shifting and absolute patterns are used for increasing the multiplicity since the circular patterns are coded in all directions. The stereo triangulation is more stable and accurate than line-plane intersection used in single axis structured light methods by reducing incorrect decoding errors. Robust gray patterns are applied to resolve the ambiguity resolution caused by reflectance discontinuities in the phase shifting decoding process.

Book Single shot Accurate 3D Reconstruction Using Structured Light Systems Based on Local Optimization

Download or read book Single shot Accurate 3D Reconstruction Using Structured Light Systems Based on Local Optimization written by Neda Aslsabbaghpourhokmabadi and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creating 3D models of objects has been studied extensively for several decades. These models have different applications in different fields. As a result, creating 3D models is an interesting area in computer vision. There are many proposed methods for extracting 3D information of 2D images. One of the most common methods for 3D reconstruction is structured light methods. Although structured light methods can get valuable results of 3D reconstruction, they have limitations. For example, the structured light methods can get dense results on static scenes or get sparse results on dynamic scenes. In static scenes, the structured light method projects several patterns, and it results in dense models. However, in dynamic scenes, the structured light method projects just one pattern since the object is moving, and it results in sparse models. The limitation of the structured light methods in dynamic scenes is the most important motivation for this thesis. In this thesis, a single-shot structured light method is developed to overcome the sparse results in dynamic scenes. In particular, the proposed method can obtain more accurate reconstruction with just one image of dynamic scenes than that of existing methods. The new method applies global and local optimizations to establish dense correspondences. The result of simulated experiments comparison with the ground truth demonstrates that the proposed method in this thesis achieves more accurate results than that of previous methods. Lastly, the technique developed in this thesis is applied to real data in order to obtain high quality 3D reconstruction results. The results of the new method are more accurate compared to previous methods.

Book 3D Reconstruction of Transparent and Specular Objects

Download or read book 3D Reconstruction of Transparent and Specular Objects written by Ding Liu and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 3D reconstruction of transparent and specular objects is a very challenging topic in computer vision. The goal is to get the 3D information of the points on the surface of a transparent or specular object and accumulate the points to form the reconstructed surface. For opaque objects, the structured light methods can be used with good results. For transparent and specular objects, which have complex interior and exterior structures that can reflect and refract light in a complex fashion, it is difficult, if not impossible, to use the traditional structured light methods to do the reconstruction. In this thesis, a frequency-based 3D reconstruction method based on the frequency-based matting method is introduced. Similar to the structured light methods, a set of frequency-based patterns are projected to the object, and a camera captures the scene at the same time. Each pixel of a captured image is analyzed along the time axis and the signal is transformed to the frequency-domain using the Discrete Fourier Transformation. Since the frequency is only determined by the source that creates it, the frequency of the signal can uniquely identify the location of the pixel in the patterns. In this way, the correspondences between the pixels in the captured images and the points in the patterns can be acquired. Using a new labelling procedure developed in this research, the surface of transparent and specular objects can be reconstructed with very encouraging results.

Book Computer Vision Metrics

Download or read book Computer Vision Metrics written by Scott Krig and published by Apress. This book was released on 2014-06-14 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer Vision Metrics provides an extensive survey and analysis of over 100 current and historical feature description and machine vision methods, with a detailed taxonomy for local, regional and global features. This book provides necessary background to develop intuition about why interest point detectors and feature descriptors actually work, how they are designed, with observations about tuning the methods for achieving robustness and invariance targets for specific applications. The survey is broader than it is deep, with over 540 references provided to dig deeper. The taxonomy includes search methods, spectra components, descriptor representation, shape, distance functions, accuracy, efficiency, robustness and invariance attributes, and more. Rather than providing ‘how-to’ source code examples and shortcuts, this book provides a counterpoint discussion to the many fine opencv community source code resources available for hands-on practitioners.

Book Digital Transformation of the Design Construction and Management Processes of the Built Environment

Download or read book Digital Transformation of the Design Construction and Management Processes of the Built Environment written by Bruno Daniotti and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book focuses on the development of methods, interoperable and integrated ICT tools, and survey techniques for optimal management of the building process. The construction sector is facing an increasing demand for major innovations in terms of digital dematerialization and technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, advanced manufacturing, robotics, 3D printing, blockchain technologies and artificial intelligence. The demand for simplification and transparency in information management and for the rationalization and optimization of very fragmented and splintered processes is a key driver for digitization. The book describes the contribution of the ABC Department of the Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano) to R&D activities regarding methods and ICT tools for the interoperable management of the different phases of the building process, including design, construction, and management. Informative case studies complement the theoretical discussion. The book will be of interest to all stakeholders in the building process - owners, designers, constructors, and faculty managers - as well as the research sector.
