Book A New Vision of God for the 21st Century

Download or read book A New Vision of God for the 21st Century written by Stanley A. Fry and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-11 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New Vision of God for the 21st Century Discovering the Essential Wesley for Pastors and Other Seekers STANLEY A. FRY The need for a book focused on John Wesley as a preacher has been apparent for some time. However, as fascinating as such an historical work would have been, its value for the preaching and teaching ministries of the church in the 21st century would have been very limited. The author has turned this study of Wesley's preaching into a search for the preachable and teachable essence of Wesley's message. That effort has required a bit of surgery on Mr. Wesley which is designed to fit his doctrine of salvation with a new vision of God and another vocabulary responsive to the spiritual sensitivities of the 21st century. The result includes a critique not only of Wesley but of some of the orthodox doctrines promulgated very early in the church's history. Rather than write a memoir in his retirement, the author has chosen to write this homiletical essay as a testimony to his own spiritual journey. It is not a method book, but rather a message book.

Hugh Rock’s message is that people are inherently religious. The necessary task today is to articulate anew the reality of religion. In a wide-ranging survey, that draws together the past fifty years of liberal theology and sociological discussion about the interface of religion and popular culture, he concludes that it is in our new respect for the autonomous self-fulfilment of the potential of every person’s life that can be found the message transferred out of the New Testament.

Fully revised and updated, this is Borg's major book on the historial Jesus. He shows how the Gospel portraits of Jesus, historically seen, make sense. Borg takes into account all the recent developments in historical Jesus scholarship, as well as new theories on who Jesus was and how the Gospels reflect that. The original version of this book was published well before popular fascination with the historical Jesus. Now this new version takes advantage of all the research that has gone on since the 80s. The revisions establish it as Borg's big but popular book on Jesus.

For the church to reclaim the high ground of hope for the future, we must begin to proclaim the beginning, the coming of the kingdom." It includes encouragement for weary church leaders as well as the second part of The Hordes of Hell are Marching, illustrating the unified church rising as an army in the most pivotal battle of all time between the light and darkness.

Download or read book A New Vision for Israel written by Scot McKnight and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 1999 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important development in recent historical Jesus studies is the attempt to understand the ministry of Jesus in "political" terms. In calling the nation of Israel to repentance, Jesus served as a national prophet concerned with the salvation of Israel. Scot McKnight furthers this line of inquiry by showing how Jesus' teachings are to be understood in relation to his role as a political figure. McKnight looks closely at Jesus' teachings on God, the kingdom, and ethics, demonstrating in each case how Jesus' mission to restore Israel brings his teachings into a bold new light.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts in a scholarly and nondogmatic way to say, "This is what the historical Jesus was like, this is what he taught, and this is what his mission was about." It seeks, in short, to sketch a portrait of what Jesus was like as a figure of history before his death. A twofold purpose: to present a synthesis of modern Jesus scholarship that is accessible to the general reader, whether Christian or among the interested inquirers; to make a serious scholarly case for a particular image of the historical Jesus that is considerably at variance with the dominant scholarly image.

  • Pages : 222 pages

Download or read book God Conversations written by Tania Harris and published by Authentic. This book was released on 2017 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do I know it's God? is one of the most commonly asked questions of new and mature Christians alike, and the aim of God Conversations is to both equip and inspire the reader and show them that hearing the voice of the Spirit is accessible to everyone who chooses to follow Jesus. Most Christians know that God speaks, yet struggle with how to recognise his voice in their everyday lives. What does God's voice sound like? How do we know if what we're hearing is from God? Stories of God talking to his people abound throughout the Bible, but we usually only get the highlights. We read; "And God said to Joseph; 'Go to Egypt'," and then; "Mary and Joseph left for Egypt." We don't get a blow-by-blow description of how God spoke. We don't receive a detailed explanation of how they knew it was God, and we don't get to see what was going on inside their heads as they acted on what they'd heard. In God Conversations, international speaker and pastor Tania Harris shares insights from her own journey about hearing God's voice. You'll get to eavesdrop on some contemporary conversations with God in the light of his communication with the ancient characters of the Bible. Part memoir, part teaching, this unique and creative collection of stories will help you to recognise God's voice when he speaks and how to respond when you do.

Book The Man of Light

  • ISBN : 1440195234
  • Pages : 145 pages

Download or read book The Man of Light written by A. Fry Stanley a. Fry and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stanley A. Fry, pastor and scholar, has thoroughly documented his own search for the historical Jesus. His search, however, takes a new twist, one that requires him to set forth a highly personal vision of how Jesus can become real, not in history, but in today's ever-changing world. Why have we so long ignored the first twenty years of the Jesus movement? Why has the church been built upon the stories of the death and resurrection of Jesus instead of upon his teachings? Why has the search for the historical Jesus produced so little solid information? Is there any historical justification for belief in the "real" Jesus? Is there a spiritual foundation for commitment to the "real" Jesus? Where can the "real" Jesus be found? What impact will this view of Jesus have on the Christian faith and the church? The bottom line is that Fry has produced an original and cogent case for a new vision of Jesus, the "real" Jesus who can shine a bright light on your future.

Book Jesus a New Vision

    Book Details:
  • Author : Whitley Strieber
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2021-01-15
  • ISBN : 9781734202861
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book Jesus a New Vision written by Whitley Strieber and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-15 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Jesus: A New Vision is at once a magisterial work of scholarship and a completely new approach to the meaning and message of Jesus. It comes at a time when the western world is divided between a declining number of believers in Christian doctrine and an ever-increasing number of people who feel that Jesus was nothing more than a religious zealot who was executed for the crime of sedition. What if neither of these approaches is right? What if Jesus really did perform miracles, including the resurrection, but that this says not that he was a deity, but that he was exercising human powers which are buried within us all, and which we do not suspect are there? By exploring the life of Jesus and his teachings in an entirely new way, Jesus: A New Vision sheds fresh light on the meaning and power of his parables, explores the mysteries of the gospels of Thomas and Mary with fresh insight, and explains why, as Strieber puts it, he “committed suicide by crucifixion.” It also addresses the questions that continue to surround the Shroud of Turin, exploring both the science that concluded that it was a medieval forgery and the more recent studies that have shown it to be something very different. It explores what happened after Jesus’s death that led to the ultra-violence that destroyed the entire polytheistic culture of the Roman Empire, and explains why this greatest of all human revolutions happened, relating it to the pandemics and uncontrollable migrations that resulted from a climate change event that began around 150 A.D. and led to extraordinary disruptions that the Romans, knowing nothing of solar variability, blamed on their gods."--Amazon.com
