Book A New Signature for Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

Download or read book A New Signature for Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In theories with gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking, the scalar tau, ([tilde[tau]][sub 1]) is the lightest superpartner for a large range of the parameter space. At the large electron positron collider (LEP 2) this scenario can give rise to events with four[tau] leptons and large missing energy. Two of the[tau]'s (coming from the decays of[tilde[tau]][sub 1]'s) will have large energy and transverse momentum, and can have similar sign electrical charges. Such events are very different from the usual photonic events that have been widely studied, and could be a very distinct signal for the discovery of supersymmetry. 20 refs., 2 figs., 3 tabs.

Book Supersymmetry Breaking Models of Gauge Mediation with Gauge Messengers

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the start of the LHC, it becomes increasingly important to understand the experimental signatures that discriminate different extensions of the standard model. Supersymmetry (SUSY), in particular the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), is one such extension that is specially attractive by its simplicity and elegance. However, if this symmetry is to be realized in nature, it must be spontaneously broken. In this work we will try to understand the most general way in which SUSY breaking can happen in renormalizable field theories and the implications that this has on the minimal extension of the standard model (MSSM) mass spectrum. The first two chapters are the introductory material: in chapter 1 we will introduce some of the key ideas necessary to understand supersymmetric field theories, and in chapter 2 we will briefly describe the the simplest supersymmetric version of the Standard Model. In chapter 3 we will focus on understanding the role of R-Symmetry breaking in determining the soft terms gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) can lead to. To do this we consider a model where both R-symmetry and SUSY are spontaneously broken. One starts with the model proposed by Intriligator, Seiberg and Shih (ISS) and adds a (dangerous) marginal operator, which we call a meson deformation. The inclusion of this operator leads to the spontaneous breaking of R-symmetry in the vacuum. One then gauges the SU(5) of flavour and identifies it with the MSSM GUT gauge group, thus implementing GMSB. This was the second explicit example where R-symmetry was spontaneously broken in the vacuum. As in the first, gaugino masses iii turned out to be smaller than naively expected so that a mild splitting between scalar (squark and slepton) and gaugino masses exists. After this, a general argument showed that in fact gaugino masses are always significantly smaller than scalar masses if the universe is perturbatively stable. This arguments suggests that any viable vac.

Book Supersymmetry Breaking Gauge Mediation and the LHC

Download or read book Supersymmetry Breaking Gauge Mediation and the LHC written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gauge mediated SUSY breaking (GMSB) is a promising class of supersymmetric models that automatically satisfies the precision constraints. Prior work of Meade, Seiberg and Shih in 2008 established the full, model-independent parameter space of GMSB, which they called "General Gauge Mediation" (GGM). During the first half of 2010-2015, Shih and his collaborators thoroughly explored the parameter space of GGM and established many well-motivated benchmark models for use by the experimentalists at the LHC. Through their work, the current constraints on GGM from LEP, the Tevatron and the LHC were fully elucidated, together with the possible collider signatures of GMSB at the LHC. This ensured that the full discovery potential for GGM could be completely realized at the LHC.

Book Low Scale and Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking at the Fermilab Tevatron Run II

Download or read book Low Scale and Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking at the Fermilab Tevatron Run II written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prospects for discovering and studying signals of low-scale supersymmetry breaking models at the Tevatron Run II and beyond are explored. These models include gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking as the most compelling and concrete realization, but more generally are distinguished by the presence of a nearly massless Goldstino as the lightest supersymmetric particle. The next-lightest supersymmetric particle(s) (NLSP) decays to its partner and the Goldstino. Depending on the supersymmetry breaking scale, these decays can occur promptly or on a scale comparable to or larger than the size of a detector. A systematic analysis based on a classification in terms of the identity of the NLSP and its decay length is presented. The various scenarios are discussed in terms of signatures and possible event selection criteria. The Run II and beyond discovery and exclusion reaches, including the effects of background, are detailed for the most compelling cases. In addition to standard event selection criteria based on missing energy and photons, leptons, jets, taus, tagged b-jets, or reconstructed Z-bosons, more exotic signals of metastable NLSPs such as displaced photons, large negative impact parameter tracks, kink tracks, both opposite and same-sign highly ionizing tracks, time of flight measurements, charge-changing tracks, charge-exchange tracks, and same-sign di-top events are investigated. The interesting possibility of observing a Higgs boson signal in events that are efficiently ''tagged'' by the unique signatures of low-scale supersymmetry breaking is also considered.

Book New Models of Gauge and Gravity Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

Download or read book New Models of Gauge and Gravity Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We show that supersymmetry breaking in a class of theories with SU(N) x SU(N-2) gauge symmetry can be studied in a calculable sigma model. We use the sigma model to show that the supersymmetry breaking vacuum in these theories leaves a large subgroup of flavor symmetries intact, and to calculate the masses of the low-lying states. By embedding the Standard Model gauge groups in the unbroken flavor symmetry group we construct a class of models in which supersymmetry breaking is communicated by both gravitational and gauge interactions. One distinguishing feature of these models is that the messenger fields, responsible for the gauge mediated communication of supersymmetry breaking, are an integral part of the supersymmetry breaking sector. We also show how, by lowering the scale that suppresses the nonrenormalizable operators, a class of purely gauge mediated models with a combined supersymmetry breaking-cum-messenger sector can be built. We briefly discuss the phenomenological features of the models we construct.

Book Broken Symmetries and Signatures

Download or read book Broken Symmetries and Signatures written by Andrew Liam Fitzpatrick and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider three possible extensions of the Standard Model. In the first model, we explore the possibility to solve the strong CP problem and flavor puzzle in a model with fermions in the bulk of a warped extra dimensions, making use of the enhanced spacetime symmetries present in extra dimensions. In the second, we systematically explore the possible low-energy spectrum arising from gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking when the messenger sector obeys a U(1) R-symmetry and all allowed renormalizable operators in the messenger sector are included. In the third, we study single-field models of inflation using an effective theory for the pions of spontaneously broken time translation invariance and explicitly prove a consistency relation for the three-point function of density perturbations.
