Book excerpt: #1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown has long inspired readers to believe that life is full of wonderful possibilities. Here is one of her classic novels, an exquisite tale of longtime friends who have seen it all—and suddenly see each other in a whole new light. Ever since losing her husband, Cyn McCall has counted on his business partner, Worth Lansing. Though a confirmed bachelor, Worth nonetheless proves himself to be a dependable friend and a father figure to her son. He makes her laugh, and she teases him about his many romantic entanglements. But falling for a man who can’t settle down is the furthest thing from her mind—until an innocent gesture changes everything. When Worth invites Cyn to a getaway weekend in Acapulco, he doesn’t expect to be sharing a room. And he certainly doesn’t intend for them to wind up in bed together. Cyn wants to believe that their night of passion was a mistake sparked by the exotic locale. But Worth is convinced that they share something deeper. He knows he’s finally ready to stop playing games—if only Cyn will open her heart to the promise of love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been ten years since Kumeka, Master of the Eighth Ray, introduced himself to Diana Cooper and began to meld his consciousness with hers. A Little Light on Ascension presented the information he impressed on Diana at the time, but since then, much has changed on our planet, and Kumeka has recently imparted further information. This knowledge, previously offered to just a few, is now available to millions of lightworkers eager to assist in the task of moving this planet into the light. Yes, ascending into the higher realms can be achieved in this lifetime. We may have to work at it, but all the tools and information we need are now available to us thanks to A New Light on Ascension. However, be prepared, this journey is not for the fainthearted! Kumeka does not offer a quick fix; he invites and encourages each one of us to join the millions on the planet now actively working towards a joyful life of spirit. "Diana Cooper's A Little Light on Ascension is the book that reminds me why I am here and what it is all about. To say I find it an inspiration is an understatement; to describe is as my bible would not be an exaggeration." —Susan Clark, The Sunday Times

Book excerpt: "Pack soup, cheese and a copy of How To See Nature by the Bard of Wenlock Edge and Guardian diarist." John Vidal With a title taken from the 1940 Batsford book, this is nature writing for the modern reader. Evans weaves historical, cultural and literary references into his writing, ranging from TS Eliot to Bridget Riley, from Hieronymus Bosch to Napoleon. It is a book both for those that live in the country and those that don't, but experience nature every day through brownfield edge lands, transport corridors, urban greenspace, industrialised agriculture and fragments of ancient countryside. The essays include the The Weedling Wild, on the wildlife of the wasteland: ragwort, rosebay willowherb, giant hogweed and the cinnabar moth; Gardens of Light, about the creatures to be found under moonlight: pipistrelle bats, lacewings and orb-weaver spider; The Flow, with tales from the riverbank, estuaries and seas, including kingfisher, minnow, otter and heron. The Commons looks at meadowland with a human footprint, with the Adonis blue butterfly, horseshoe vetch, skylark, black knapweed and the six-belted clearwing moth. The author also looks at the wildlife returned to Britain, such as wild boar and polecats, and finds nature in and around landscapes as varied as a domestic garden or a wild moor. The book ends with an alphabetical bestiary, an idiosyncratic selection of British wildlife based on the author's personal encounters.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps the most common question that a child asks when he or she sees the night sky from a dark site for the first time is: 'How many stars are there?' This happens to be a question which has exercised the intellectual skills of many astronomers over the course of most of the last century, including, for the last two decades, one of the authors of this text. Until recently, the most accurate answer was 'We are not certain, but there is a good chance that almost all of them are M dwarfs. ' Within the last three years, results from new sky-surveys - particularly the first deep surveys at near infrared wavelengths - have provided a breakthrough in this subject, solidifying our census of the lowest-mass stars and identifying large numbers of the hitherto almost mythical substellar-mass brown dwarfs. These extremely low-luminosity objects are the central subjects of this book, and the subtitle should be interpreted accordingly. The expression 'low-mass stars' carries a wide range of meanings in the astronomical literature, but is most frequently taken to refer to objects with masses comparable with that of the Sun - F and G dwarfs, and their red giant descendants. While this definition is eminently reasonable for the average extragalactic astronomer, our discussion centres on M dwarfs, with masses of no more than 60% that of the Sun, and extends to 'failed stars' - objects with insufficient mass to ignite central hydrogen fusion.

This international bestselling book has helped hundreds of thousands of people all over the world to create a life that is in deep alignment with their soul. "Light Is The New Black is an inspiring book with a message that is so needed right now. Rebecca courageously guides us to turn our lights on and follow the daily calls of our soul so we can all light up the world with our authentic spirit.” – Sonia Choquette, bestselling author of The Answer is Simple ANSWER THE CALL OF YOUR SOUL AND WORK YOUR LIGHT Your inner light is your soul and it is guiding you every moment of every day. Light Is the New Black is for those who agreed to be here at this time in history to answer the call of their soul and work their light. Rebecca Campbell had her first awakening when she was a teenager, but without anyone to guide her, she ignored her soul's callings and dimmed her light in order to fit in. Then, just before her 30th birthday, the life she had so consciously created began to crumble around her. It was as if the Universe had turned off all the lights, so she had no choice but to rediscover her own. In this inspirational book, Rebecca shares her own healing journey, alongside practical tools to help you reconnect with the core of your being, and channelled messages from the Universe. Once you rediscover what you already know at soul level, you can create a life that is in divine alignment, discover your soul gifts, and offer the world something that only you can give. “When I first woke up to the callings of my soul, I lacked the courage, confidence, inner support, and practical tools not just to hear the callings of my soul, but to let them truly lead my life. There were pieces missing, a journey needed to be taken. I called upon the Universe and spiritual teachers to support me. This book is the result of that journey. You can read it in one sitting, one chapter a day, or pick a page at random for an instant hit of guidance. Throughout you will find ‘Work Your Light’ exercises, mantras, and affirmations. I created these with the intention of guiding you not only to hear the callings of your soul, but to act on them too... I pray that you discover the authentic gift to the world that you already are and choose to serve the world by being You. Follow what lights you up and you will light up the world. So much love, Rebecca x

But at a party she experiences a vision, which she finds disconcerting, but also compelling. Also compelling is her seemingly chance meeting with neuroscientist who is researching the vision phenomenon. Beth accompanies him to New Light, a visionary commune in the mountains where she meets its charismatic leader, a woman known as The Mother, and is befriended by some of the members. Their conception of America is challenging, most notably in their openness to sexual and emotional experimentation. Beth is intrigued by the sense of possibility she finds at New Light, but is also disturbed by the enormous power The Mother wields over the members' lives. In the end Beth must address questions of faith and personal responsibility, jealousy and desire, loyalty and tolerance.
