Book A New Life

Download or read book A New Life written by Oluwafemi Senu and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-11 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ahead of Peter, miles away from home in a foreign land, lay his toughest challenge yet. In the pursuit of his dreams, he would be driven to the limits of desperation, hunger and endurance. In his eyes, life could not be lived; it had to be survived. Although the generational adage of 'suffering and smiling' prescribed to Nigerians perhaps would represent most of Peter's life, with sheer restless determination, he would wrestle his future into his hands. In his long-awaited sequel to The Unexpected Truth, Oluwafemi Senu, weaves a story where the reader feels his emotional journey from the beginning to end. Written as a testament to less privileged children, his triumphant autobiography underpins the principal ethos that has guided his life: a dream is never achieved by the man who stands still, but the one who tries is at least a step closer.

Book Dante s New Life of the Book

Download or read book Dante s New Life of the Book written by Martin Eisner and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-18 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dante's Vita nuova has taken on a wide variety of different forms since its first publication in 1294. How could one work have generated such different physical forms? Through examining the work's transformations in manuscripts, printed books, translations, and adaptations, Eisner reconceives of the relationship between the work and its reception. Dante's New Life of the Book investigates how these different material manifestations participate in the work, drawing attention to its distinctive elements. Dante framed his book as an attempt to understand his own experiences through the experimental form of the book, and later scribes, editors, and translators use different material forms to embody their interpretations of Dante's collection of thirty-one poems surrounded by prose narrative and commentary. Traveling from Boccaccio's Florence to contemporary Hollywood with stops in Emerson's Cambridge, Rossetti's London, Nerval's Paris, Mandelstam's Russia, De Campos's Brazil, and Pamuk's Istanbul, this study builds on extensive archival research to show how Dante's strange poetic forms, including incomplete canzoni and sonnets with two beginnings, continue to challenge readers. Each chapter focuses on how one of these distinctive features has been treated over time, offering new perspectives on topics such as Dante's love of Beatrice, his relationship with Guido Cavalcanti, and his attraction to another woman. Numerous illustrations show the entanglement of the work's poetic form and its material survival. Eisner provides a fresh reading of Dante's innovations, demonstrating the value of this philological analysis of the work's survival in the world.

Book The Complete Book of Mario

Book excerpt: When Shigeru Miyamoto created "Jumpman" for his new platform game, Donkey Kong, it's highly unlikely that he realised he was creating the most recognisable gaming character of all time. That's exactly what happened though, and after a quick name change to Mario as well as a change in job professions (he started off life as a carpenter) the mascot to end all mascots was born. Everyone remembers the first time they discovered the princess they were rescuing was in another castle, or their first encounter with Bowser. They remember the impact of witnessing a 3D Mario in Super Mario 64 or the time they teared across Rainbow Road in Super Mario Kart. There is no denying that Mario has had an incredible impact on the games industry. The Complete Book of Mario celebrates Nintendo's greatest star from Super Mario Bros to Super Mario Odyssey and every aspect of the popular character.

Book excerpt: Joanna Bannerman, capricious, selfish and warm-hearted, passionately seeks life and ‘loveliness’. Certainly the bustling streets of Glasgow at the turn of the century promise much greater excitement than the solid evangelical background she has known hitherto. Her studies in the School of Art open up new horizons – of independence and love – and Joanna reaches for them all. First published in 1920, this novel powerfully evokes the image of a young woman ensnared yet ultimately released by her capacity for emotion. It contains a strong autobiographical element and is also a powerful evocation of the life and industry of the Second City of the Empire.
