Book Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate Cupric Chloride Solutions for Dosimetry of a Kilocurie Cobalt 60 Source

Download or read book Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate Cupric Chloride Solutions for Dosimetry of a Kilocurie Cobalt 60 Source written by E. A. Burke and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aqueous solutions of ferrous ammonium sulfate with cupric chloride were studied as a means for determining the uniformity of the dose rate around a multikilocurie cylindrical array of cobalt-60. Ferric ion was measured spectrophotometrically at 305 millimicrons. The solution selected to satisfy the requirements for dosimetry contained 0.0005 M ferrous ammonium sulfate and 0.005 M cupric chloride in 0.001 N sulfuric acid. Spectrophotometric measurements of ferric ion were made in solutions brought to 0.15 N acid concentration, instead of the conventional 0.8 N, in order to minimize spurious oxidation. The molar extinction coefficient at this normality proved to be the same as that in 0.8 N solutions. The G value, as compared to the standard ferrous-ferric dosimeter, was 0.65. Using these solutions, no detectable variation in dose rate was found at symmetrically equivalent positions at the center of the cobalt-60 source. The average dose rate at each end of the cylindrical array proved to be 12 percent lower than that at the center. The dose rate was also less uniform at the ends, varying by = 4 percent from point-to-point. At a distance of fifteen inches from the center of the source array, the dose rate decreased as the square of the distance. (Author).

Book Energy Source Requirements for Reliable Circuitry

Download or read book Energy Source Requirements for Reliable Circuitry written by Walton B. Bishop and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A very simple analysis of circuit reliability when the source of energy of 'power supply' is included shows that small independent sources of energy are needed. Several possible ways of satisfying this intuitively obvious need are discussed. (Author).

Book Feasible Control Computations Using Dynamic Programming

Download or read book Feasible Control Computations Using Dynamic Programming written by Stephen J. Kahne and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of Bellman's dynamic programming technique to realistic control problems has generally been precluded by excessive storage requirements inherent in the method. In this paper, the notion of state mobility is described and shown to be valuable in reducing certain classes of dynamic programming calculations to manageable size. The scheme requires one simple calculation at each stage of the process. IN many cases even this calculation may be omitted. It results in the reduction of the range of allowable state variables to be scanned. The amount of reduction varies from problem to problem. A simple example exhibits a fifty percent reduction. This corresponds to a fifty percent reduction in storage requirements for the problem. Reductions of one or two orders of magnitude appear possible for certain classes of problems.

Book Absorption Spectra of H2 in the Vacuum ultraviolet Region

Download or read book Absorption Spectra of H2 in the Vacuum ultraviolet Region written by T. Namioka and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The absorption spectrum of the H2 molecule has been studied in the wavelength region 930-840 A with a 6.8-m grazing incidence vacuum spectrograph in combination with the helium continuum. The Lyman and the Werner bands have been extended to their dissociation limits. The results of the rotational analysis of these bands are given. (Author).

Book Theory of Continuous Zone Refining Via the Zone transport Method

Download or read book Theory of Continuous Zone Refining Via the Zone transport Method written by John K. Kennedy and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper explains the differences and the reasons for the differences which exist between the theory of the zone-transport system of continuous zone refining as presented by W. G. Pfann and T. Abe. The identity between the mathematical model used to describe the zone-transport system and one of the models used to describe the recently reported matter-transport system is noted. Nondimensional equations for the zone-transport system are presented and the difference between the limit of alpha in the zone-void and zonetransport systems, when L sub e = 0, is correlated. Book Adsorption of Inorganic Anions on a Mercury Electrode from Solutions of Formamide

Download or read book Adsorption of Inorganic Anions on a Mercury Electrode from Solutions of Formamide written by Richard Payne and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theory of hydromagnetic ionizing waves has been developed which is valid in the region in which gas pressure is negligible, compared with magnetic pressure. The theory takes into account the energy expended in partial ionization of the gas behind the wave. The usual high conductivity boundary condition behind the wave is not employed. The electric field in front of the wave is taken as a parameter. Results of this theory are compared with available experimental measurements, and show good agreement. (Author).

Book A Proposed Method for the Determination of the Standard Free Energy of Formation of a Double Oxide by a Mass Spectrometer

Download or read book A Proposed Method for the Determination of the Standard Free Energy of Formation of a Double Oxide by a Mass Spectrometer written by J. Smiltens and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An equation for determination of the standard free energy of formation of a double oxide by means of a mass spectrometer has been derived. The quantities required by the equation are (1) the ratio of the intensities of an ion and (2) the ratio of the oxygen pressures at two equilibriums involving the double oxide and the constituent oxides.
