Book excerpt: Foreword by Monica Lewinsky and as seen on Dr. Oz "Smart. Timely. Essential. The era's must-read to renew Internet civility." — Michele Borba ED.D, author of Unselfie An essential toolkit to help everyone — from parents to teenagers to educators — take charge of their digital lives. Online shame comes in many forms, and it's surprising how much of an effect a simple tweet might have on your business, love life, or school peers. In Shame Nation, parent advocate and internet safety expert Sue Scheff presents an eye-opening examination around the rise in online shaming, and offers practical advice and tips including: • Preventing digital disasters • Defending your online reputation • Building digital resilience • Reclaiming online civility Armed with the right knowledge and skills, everyone can play a positive part in the prevention and protection against online cruelty, and become more courageous and empathetic in their communities. "Shame Nation holds that elusive key to stopping the trend of online hate so kindness and compassion can prevail." — Rachel Macy Stafford, New York Times bestselling author of Hands Free Mama, Hands Free Life, and Only Love Today "Scheff offers the latest insight as to why people publicly shame each other and will equip readers with the tools to protect themselves from what has now become the new Scarlet Letter." — Ross Ellis, Founder and CEO, STOMP Out Bullying

Book A Nation Within

  • Author : Ezra Rosser
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2021-10-07
  • ISBN : 1108996159
  • Pages : 327 pages

Download or read book A Nation Within written by Ezra Rosser and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-10-07 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In A Nation Within, Ezra Rosser explores the connection between land-use patterns and development in the Navajo Nation. Roughly the size of Ireland or West Virginia, the Navajo reservation has seen successive waves of natural resource-based development over the last century: grazing and over-grazing, oil and gas, uranium, and coal; yet Navajos continue to suffer from high levels of unemployment and poverty. Rosser shows the connection between the exploitation of these resources and the growth of the tribal government before turning to contemporary land use and development challenges. He argues that, in addition to the political challenges associated with any significant change, external pressures and internal corruption have made it difficult for the tribe to implement land reforms that could help provide space for economic development that would benefit the Navajo Nation and Navajo tribal members.

Book excerpt: A scathingly funny graphic novel from a veritable dream team of collaborators, premised on the question: what would happen if East St. Louis seceded from the union? Remember the 2000 election debacle in Florida, what would happen if the same thing were to happen in East St. Louis? What if the dissed city seceded and declared itself the sovereign Republic of Blackland? Written by one of America's leading political satirists and a pioneering black filmmaker, this takes the botched election of 2000 and turns it into an absurd conclusion - this is political humour at its best.
