Book Boundary Value Problems for Transonic Flow

Download or read book Boundary Value Problems for Transonic Flow written by Alexander G Kuz'min and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-02-28 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transonic flow occurs around moving objects as they approach and cross the sound barrier. Serious problems can occur at this point, such as shock-induced flow separation which can cause the aircraft to spin out of control. Another important practical problem is the achievement of higher aerodynamic performance of aircraft at cruise conditions, which leads to considerable fuel savings. The success in application of numerical methods for simulation of transonic flow and aircraft design depends on developments in the underlying mathematical theory. This book presents a breakthrough in the solvability analysis of boundary value problems, which makes it possible to establish convergence of finite element approximations for shock-free flow and to provide a framework for putting the existing numerical methods on a more sound basis. Also, physical aspects concerned with patterns of formation and propagation of weak shock waves are analysed. This contributes to the understanding of the extreme sensitivity of transonic flow to perturbation of freestream conditions. The developed theoretical knowledge base yields promising concepts of the airfoil design and active flow control by airfoil/wing shape modifications or suction/blowing through a perforated surface. Boundary Value Problems for Transonic Flow * Focuses on Computational Fluid Dynamics. * Addresses practical problems, such as airfoil design and flow control. * Presents developments made in the last two decades. In essence this is a much needed monograph for researchers and engineers in applied mathematics and numerical analysis applied to aerodynamics and for algorithm developers in Computational Fluid Dynamics in the aircraft industry. It gives design engineers the underlying mathematical theory necessary for developing new concepts for airfoil/wing design and flow control.

Book Numerical Simulation of Compressible Navier Stokes Flows

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of Compressible Navier Stokes Flows written by Marie Odile Bristeau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the advent of super computers during the last ten years, the numerical simulation of viscous fluid flows modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations is becoming a most useful tool in Aircraft and Engine Design. In fact, compressible Navier-Stokes solvers tend to constitute the basic tools for many industrial applications occuring in the simulation of very complex turbulent and combustion phenomena. In Aerospace Engineering, as an exemple, their mathematical modelization requires reliable and robust methods for solving very stiff non linear partial differential equations. For the above reasons, it was clear that a workshop on this topic would be of interest for the CFD community in order to compare accuracy and efficiency of Navier-Stokes solvers on selected external and internal flow problems using different numerical approaches. The workshop was held on 4-6 December 1985 at Nice, France and organized by INRIA with the sponsorship of the GAMM Committee on Numerical Methods in Fluid Mechanics.

Book Computation of Viscous Phenomena in Unsteady Transonic Flow

Download or read book Computation of Viscous Phenomena in Unsteady Transonic Flow written by U. R. Muller and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in the development towards a 30 viscous-inviscid strong interaction method for computing unsteady transonic wing flow is reported. In the current version, an ADI-technique for solving the 3D unsteady Transonic Small Perturbation Equation (TSP) has been extended by incorporating an unsteady 2D integral boundary layer method and then simultaneously solving the viscous and inviscid flow equations in a stripwise fashion.

Book Turbulent Shear Layer Shock Wave Interactions

Download or read book Turbulent Shear Layer Shock Wave Interactions written by J. Delery and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was on a proposal of the late Professor Maurice Roy, member of the French Academy of Sciences, that in 1982, the General Assembly of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics decided to sponsor a symposium on Turbulent Shear-Layer/Shock-Wave Interactions. This sympo sium might be arranged in Paris -or in its immediate vicinity-during the year 1985. Upon request of Professor Robert Legendre, member of the French Academy of Sciences, the organization of the symposium might be provided by the Office National d'Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales (ONERA). The request was very favorably received by Monsieur l'Ingenieur General Andre Auriol, then General Director of ONERA. The subject of interactions between shock-waves and turbulent dissipative layers is of considerable importance for many practical devices and has a wide range of engineering applications. Such phenomena occur almost inevitably in any transonic or supersonic flow and the subject has given rise to an important research effort since the advent of high speed fluid mechanics, more than forty years ago. However, with the coming of age of modern computers and the development of new sophisticated measurement techniques, considerable progress has been made in the field over the past fifteen years. The aim of the symposium was to provide an updated status of the research effort devoted to shear layer/shock-wave interactions and to present the most significant results obtained recently.

Book Multiple Solutions and Their Stability of Inviscid Transonic Flow and Zonal Multi scale Method for Viscous Flow Simulations

Download or read book Multiple Solutions and Their Stability of Inviscid Transonic Flow and Zonal Multi scale Method for Viscous Flow Simulations written by Ya Liu and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first part of this dissertation studies multiple solutions and their stability of inviscid transonic flows. Multiple numerical solutions for the Transonic Small-Disturbance equation and the Euler equations at various Mach numbers and angle of attack over different geometrical configurations are confirmed. The stability of multiple solutions are analyzed using different methods such as the Jacobian matrix method and the modal approach. Generally, for symmetric airfoils at zero angle of attack, the symmetric solution is unstable, while the asymmetric solutions are stable. The second part proposes and demonstrates a new zonal multi-scale method for the computation of viscous flows. The new method can take advantage of the simplicity and automation of Cartesian grid generation, as well as the accuracy of boundary treatment of body-fitted solver. High fidelity solver is used on body-fitted mesh in the near wall region, while low fidelity solver is used on Cartesian meshes covering the computational domain. Corrections are transferred to the low fidelity solver, so that the corrected solutions can provide more accurate far field boundary conditions for the high fidelity solver. The effectiveness of such method is demonstrated by the computations of both laminar and turbulent flow problems.

Book Calculation of Unsteady Transonic Flows with Mild Separation by Viscous Inviscid Interaction

Download or read book Calculation of Unsteady Transonic Flows with Mild Separation by Viscous Inviscid Interaction written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by . This book was released on 2018-11 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents a method for calculating viscous effects in two- and three-dimensional unsteady transonic flow fields. An integral boundary-layer method for turbulent viscous flow is coupled with the transonic small-disturbance potential equation in a quasi-steady manner. The viscous effects are modeled with Green's lag-entrainment equations for attached flow and an inverse boundary-layer method for flows that involve mild separation. The boundary-layer method is used stripwise to approximate three-dimensional effects. Applications are given for two-dimensional airfoils, aileron buzz, and a wing planform. Comparisons with inviscid calculations, other viscous calculation methods, and experimental data are presented. The results demonstrate that the present technique can economically and accurately calculate unsteady transonic flow fields that have viscous-inviscid interactions with mild flow separation.
